We don't know for a fact that it is 'on the rise' at all, or simply being reported more ( or even not being reported more) or if it is on the rise, then simply that there are more foreigners here than ever before ,therefore more attacks from yobs/drunks etc.
To link it with Brexit is perhaps inevitable (from some) but too simple.

The fact that it happens in Germany, France, Italy, etc who to the best of my knowledge are IN the EU and haven't exited or had a referendum (yet) shows that racist or xenophobic attacks are exactly that.

The danger is [imo] that we will [indeed are] just accepting incidents like this as part of everyday life.

Who is 'just accepting'? Where possible, prosecutions are carried out and justice is served.We may deplore these kind of actions ( and do) and they do not go unpunished usually. What we mustn't do is continually blame anyone who voted to leave the EU, and link BREXIT to everything and everyone when something bad happens ( which is just what your posts indicate Tegan) as you're so unhappy that we are leaving.

Nobody is linking BREXIT to everything and everyone. Tut tut! Yet another exaggeration. We haven't even started negotiations yet and most of the ills in society are down to governments, who conveniently like to offload blame. It isn't the so-called 'faceless bureaucrats' who are responsible for austerity in the UK - it's our government. The unelected bureaucrats are no more responsible for EU laws than the British civil service.

You are almost certainly correct, roses, that a minority of people in the UK are racist. It doesn't make it any better that some countries are even more racist. We're supposed to be better.

I don't think anybody is stupid enough to think the opportunity for a referendum turned them racist overnight, nor that everybody who voted Leave is racist, although every racist almost certainly did vote Leave.

People who voted Leave must have known that they were voting the same way as racists, just I knew that I was voting the same way as most of the captains of industry and finance and 'experts'.

What Brexit seems to have done is give some of the racist yobs confidence to express their bigotry, as a sort of celebration of victory.

I also think it's increased the likelyhood of racist attacks ,verbal and physical, being reported more as decent ,good people whichever they they voted want to stamp out bigotry.I still believe we've come a long way since the 60s/70/80s when racism at every level was more endemic and everyday.And I don't have compassion fatigue.I'm as appalled by a racist attack as I am by a pensioner beaten up in their own home,or a violence against a teacher or a member of NHS staff.Incidents of which have risen sharply in recent years.Always unacceptable but BBC news website states after any major news eg.the murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby events in Gaza there are spikes in hate crimes.As I said unacceptable.
And saying of you voted Leave you affiliate yourself with racists is like saying if you've ever voted Conservative you are pro fox hunting.I am not.

Most of them probably didn't even think about that possibility, daphnedill.

And even if they had realised, would you expect them to vote against their own convictions just to avoid being tarred with the same brush?

There seems to be an implication that it's somehow their fault for voting to leave because it's given racists and bigots licence to commit hate crimes. Frustrated 'remain' voters will grasp at any straws to justify themselves.

I've often wondered: what bearing, if any, the number of migrants entering Germany in 2015 had on the way people voted. We are told that ' officially' it was over a million and still coming. We know that some will be given ID cards, but nobody knows the numbers, do they. And with that ID card they are free to enter the uk.

ID cards are for German citizens only and so far no immigrants from 2015 have beeen in Germany long enough. They will be issued with temporary ID cards so that German officials know who is here etc etc. At the moment no immigrants are coming and the places where they lived in our town are half empty. Still we had immigrants 10 years ago and some of them will have ID cards but it is hard. They have to learn the language first and that takes years unless you are a child and they don't carry ID cards.

You might want to check that out, petra. As far as I know, they are asylum seekers, which does not give them the right to go to another EU country.

daphnedil people voted for all kinds of differing reasons.
Why should they not vote in the way they wanted to just because someone they disagree with voted the same way?

Members of my family will vote Labour despite the fact that they loathe and despise Corbyn, McDonnell et al.
I voted Remain despite loathing such as Juncker and his ilk.

You have to make a decision based on a balance, very few people see things in black and white and take some bad along with the good as you perceive it.

Where did I say they should not have voted in the way they wanted?

Rather inflammatory and disingenuous to now say that you never said they should not have voted the way they wanted.
The link was made in your previous post and it was not a pleasant one.

Most of them are not racist themselves, of all the people I know who voted to leave, only one cited immigration as a reason.
One was what you term 'a captain of industry' and others were or are involved in high level finance.
