I feel that most people who voted remain voted for one reason whereas leave voters were voting for a multitude of different things, which means that a lot of them will ultimately be disappointed. However, they've had their protest vote, their 'moment of glory' so I guess we'll just have to get on with it. Bitter, moi? You bet.

EU countries are battling over the spoils of UK science in the Brexit fallout.

We were warned about this prior to the referendum [the S.O. used to work for Crookes healthcare]. I find optimism very difficult when I read things like this.

That's your interpretation and not a logical one. I was merely stating a fact as I see it. It was quite clear before the vote that organisations such as Britain First were supporting Brexit. Do you honestly think people didn't know?

Nowhere have I ever claimed that everybody who voted Leave was a racist, but I have no doubt that some people are/were. The official Vote Leave campaign underplayed the immigration angle quite deliberately, but there was always an undercurrent of fear-mongering, which conflated terrorism, xenophobia, nationalism and immigration in the campaigns by other unofficial campaigns, such as Farage's poster. The whole thing produced a toxic cocktail.

I disagree with you that bringing racism into the discussion is unpleasant, because I find racism itself more unpleasant.

Tegan you have to remember that "we've got our country back" don't know back from where - I thought it was here all the time! And I certainly don't know what we're supposed to do with it now we've got it. Perhaps DD can get poached by another country because I'm not certain her research can carry on here.

Another group set up, Leave means Leave, just in case we can't understand Brexit means Brexit.

She says that the main reason given by her constituents was immigration. She's MP for Wolverhampton.

Major car companies are it seems trying to recruit experienced R and D personel in Roumania and Bulgaria - they say they will be happy to relocate some senior staff there but after UK Bulgaria is the next most experienced in this field of car design etc.

The latest broadside from the EU concerns the Financial passport. Bearing in mind that something like 40% of overseas income is a result if our financial services, the majority from the EU.

The EU has not surprisingly warned that we cannot give up the single market with all the requirements we know are attached and expect to continue with the Financial passport, as the two relate to one another.

City is feeling edgy about the prospect, and Frankfurt is gathering its guns.

This boy has family in the UK. He wasn't allowed legally to come to the UK, so was killed trying to get here.
Those who want David Miliband back in politics, he is calling for the UK to take four times as many refugees as we are doing.
Brexiters will not like that idea.

As a Brexiter, I have no problem with an increase in the number of refugees coming to this country. What matters to me, among other things, is that the decision is made here, and not forced upon us by the EU.

In the meantime a 14 year old boy died trying to get to his brother in the UK.

The death of the youngster has prompted outrage from campaigners and politicians as the Government faces mounting pressure of their handling of the Calais crisis ahead of this week’s UN summit on refugees.

Labour peer Lord Dubs said: “It’s disastrous this kid has been killed but sadly it is not surprising because the British Government continues to drag its heels. These children with family in the UK have homes to go to so there is no excuse for delays.”

While a small number of child refugees have been brought to Britain under family reunification laws, their cases have only been successful with the help of private intervention and there remains no state-funded system in place.

Meanwhile not a single child has been brought to Britain under the wider provisions of the “Dubs amendment” made to the immigration bill in May, despite more than 200 children living in Calais being eligible under the criteria.

"In the meantime" what's that supposed to mean? You said that Brexiters wouldn't like the idea of increasing the number of refugees coming here. I refuted your assumption by pointing out that as a Brexiter I don't have a problem with that.

When it comes to the people who voted to leave the EU, you seem unable to accept that not all who did so are racist and heartless when it comes to the plight of these unfortunate people.

While the government is talking about how many children should come in, even those who have family to come to are not being allowed in, is what I meant.

The boy who died could have been allowed to come here three months ago under the agreement. 200 children living in Calais could have been over here, living with their families.

Yes, I wish we had a say too durhamjen. I also wish that some of those who voted to remain in the EU didn't assume that all of us who voted to leave are racist.
