You've made that assumption several times and you're not the only one. The assumption that all Brexiters are racist and/or just plain stupid has been made through out this thread and the previous 2 Brexit threads.

You didn't say some Brexiters wouldn't like the idea of an increase in the number of refugees coming here, you said "Brexiters will not like that idea". I wonder if everyone who voted to remain will be welcoming an increase in their number.

This is about a boy who was supposed to be allowed to come here to live with his brother and uncles.
He had been in Calais for three months and decided to try and jump on the back of a lorry, as he was getting more and more depressed about it.
The lorry driver saw him and swerved to shake him off. He fell in front of a car. Neither the car driver nor the lorry driver stopped to see to him. It was watched by lots of children in the camp who are now traumatised by what they saw.

Theresa May is today at a UN conference about refugees.
I hope she shows a bit more humanity than she did when she was home secretary, and lets those children who have the right to come here come to be with their families.

This poor boy's story has nothing to with Brexit.

This thread isn't just about that poor boy. Stop trying to guilt-trip people, no one wants children to die or be refused entry to Britain but snide comments about Brexiters serve no purpose.

Why are there two hundred children still in Calais who could be here if no one wants children to be denied entry to Britain?

It is about Brexit. It's about not allowing immigrants to come here. That's what Brexit is about however much you deny it.
The MP for Wolverhampton said that 75% of the people she spoke to up and down the country mentioned immigration.

What should Theresa May do, then?
I imagine she's saying all the right things at this conference.
David Miliband wants us to let more children in now. Do you agree with him that we should?

The situation in Calais has gone on for years......how is this the fault of Brexit then?

It isn't, is the short answer.

Why is it because of Brexit? Didn't Cameron agree to accept children way before then?

No Roses it isn't the fault of Brexit at all but it is likely that fear of all those migrants plus more could be allowed into UK - or get smuggled in - which encouraged people to vote to leave.

^Those who want David Miliband back in politics, he is calling for the UK to take four times as many refugees as we are doing.

Recent posts have been referring to this post by durhamjen this morning, Welshwife.

Calais camps have been there or there for years. We have no idea how many illegals have made their way to the UK by jumping on lorries or via people traffickers who organise transport for them. Nothing to do with EU. These people in the camps are not EU citizens, so the UK has control here but has made A bad job of controlling the border. Migrants want to come to Uk as they know it is easy to work under the radar, and they can get benfits by claiming asylum , appealing for years and very little chance of deportation . Theresa May was in charge of this shambles for years, so why we expect the government to suddenly up their game to be able to include EU citizens beats me.

Regardless of that, there are 200 children in Calais who have the right to come here legally and are being stopped from doing so. That's why the boy died. He thought it was the only way he could get here.

Well WW actually,for anybody that voted Leave specifically because they were concerned about immigration,it would be unlikely that the Calais camp had much impact(different thing,as suzied's post says) but more to do with 27 other countries and their right for any amount of their citizens to come here to live.
What some of us object to (rightly) is any poster on here ( djen in this case) to post an emotive story and say that 'Brexiters' will not like Miliband's idea of taking some more refugees.In fact, if they are under 18 and have relatives already here, then I for one would heartily agree with it.

For all others in Calais, then they should claim asylum in France as they are already there.

Genuine children with genuine relatives, yes. But not 20 yr olds purporting to be 15, no.

Not those with unrelated "uncles" or "cousins" either. The easier it is for illegal entry to be made by those purporting to have relatives or to be under 18, the greater the incentive for parents in poor countries to pay people traffickers and send their children to gain entry.

I see that a lot of people in Berlin have shown Merkel what they think of uncontrolled immigration.

If this boy had a brother and uncles in the UK why didn't they go over to Calais and help him and look after him there while his case was assessed. It's terrible that he died but where was his so called family. No I don't agree with David Miliband.
