This could and probably will go on for yearsgrin

Just to note that as well as Japan putting down markers, Australia has advised that we will behind the EU in any trade negotiations.

durhamjen Fri 23-Sept-16 15:58:44

Yes, I agree. Perhaps they just compete with each other to see who can set the most people's backs up.

Just been reading this. This is as important as article 50.

www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/brexit/brexit-brief-article-218

I wonder which article 218 mentions and if there's a circular path back round to article 50, so we never get out of the loop.

GO made a speech about Brexit in Chicago

petra Fri 23-Sept-16 17:35:09

I thought that " Friday night Marxist book club" and " The reality is JC couldn't lead labour in an egg & spoon race right now" very funny.

Tegan Fri 23-Sept-16 23:38:18

Julia Hartley certainly likes the sound of her own voice, doesn't she. I thought it was funny when DD pointed out that JRM [who I'm ashamed to say I actually found quite amusing in a Tim Nice But Dim/Ripping Yarns sort of way] was a fan of Donald Trump. However, all the whoops and cheers when anything brexit like was mentioned made me realise that nothing much has changed since the referendum. Just an attitude of 'we'll show'em', albeit not knowing who 'they' are or what it is they're going to 'show'em'. Anyway, I'm off to the sea and the sand for three weeks and intend to bury my head in the latter for the duration#needabreakfrompolitics

Cheerful little article about the possible effects of Brexit on financial services. Huge contributor to taxes in the UK.
I think May might be regretting her manoeuvring to be the PM at this time. Damned whatever she does.

Enjoy your hols and putting said head in sand ... and sun. Put your thumb in warm sand too, might help xxx

The demise of Financial Services in the UK is very much on the books (and very selfishly for me, as a grand-mother- may make all my dreams come true).

Ana Sun 25-Sept-16 20:00:14

What do you mean by that, granjura?

How can the demise of financial services in the UK be a good thing for your grandchildren...? confused

durhamjen Sun 25-Sept-16 20:42:08

Her family might move to Switzerland?

Here's an interesting list of problems for Brexiters to answer.

Ana Sun 25-Sept-16 21:02:12

Whaat, desert the sinking ship? Oh well...

durhamjen Sun 25-Sept-16 21:24:17

She didn't say it would be a good thing for her grandchildren, but for her.

Badenkate Sun 25-Sept-16 21:56:56

m.youtube.com/watch?v=sXVVCT4Jcs8 I hope this link works because I think some of you will enjoy it wink

durhamjen Sun 25-Sept-16 23:33:22

Brilliant, Badenkate.
Unfortunately we don't have the guarantee yet, or any sort of contract, so can't take Brexit to trading standards.

Badenkate Mon 26-Sept-16 08:44:40

Thought you'd enjoy it jen

MaizieD Mon 26-Sept-16 09:43:04

I really enjoyed it too. Very clever grin

I'm also enjoying the mumsnet Westminstenders thread someone posted a few weeks ago. It's worth a quick daily visit

Hollande speaking today from Calais about the refugees camp etc.

petra Mon 26-Sept-16 17:43:27

Welshwife wouldn't have anything to do with a general election next year in France, would it. I won't hold my breath.

granjura Mon 26-Sept-16 18:33:16

durhamjen guessed right Ana- many in the financial sector are planning their move.

granjura Mon 26-Sept-16 18:39:16

Not just personally, but whole operations.

Tragic I agree- but those who voted 'remain' are free to go surely-and seek a better future for them and their children. Mainly the young and succesful - sadly for the UK. The reality.

And however tragic I think the whole situation is for the UK- for me personally that would be the real silver lining...

Ana Mon 26-Sept-16 18:55:32

I don't think the situation is tragic, granjura - people just have to get on with their lives whether they voted to remain or to leave the EU.

Of course, not everyone has the option of moving to live elsewhere.

Jalima Mon 26-Sept-16 19:10:50

Syria is tragic.

petra Mon 26-Sept-16 19:11:18

Tragic is what's happening in the Middle East, not companies or people choosing to leave the uk.

Jalima Mon 26-Sept-16 19:14:02

X post petra
I dislike seeing words such as 'tragic' debased; what word does one then use for all those places in the world where truly horrendous things are happening.

Switzerland has always been a good place to live if one if involved in finance, hasn't it?

Jalima Mon 26-Sept-16 19:15:03

Every cloud has a silver lining granjura smile

durhamjen Mon 26-Sept-16 20:30:33

I know we are leaving the EU, but I still don't want this to happen.

Something to sign if you want to.

granjura Mon 26-Sept-16 20:35:39

Ana- it is tragic if our remaining industries and institutions, together with the brightest of young people - are leaving the country.
