This could and probably will go on for yearsgrin

Just to note that as well as Japan putting down markers, Australia has advised that we will behind the EU in any trade negotiations.

Of course the Tories are just as split as Labour the only difference is that first they have been split for years longer than Labour which is why we had the bloody referendum in the first place and they have largely got the media on their side - nice cosy visits by the Prime Minister to the rag king Murdoch ensures that the government knows what it has to try to achieve in order to get Murdoch support re Brexit.

Devorgilla Sat 01-Oct-16 09:19:34

ww, the difference is that when there is a General Election the Tories always find the glue to stick together. They may have a smaller paid up membership on paper but they sure can get their vote out when they need to.

whitewave Sat 01-Oct-16 09:32:35

Would the media be any assistance do you think? Why else would May pay a visit to Murdoch as soon as she went to USA?

Of course no support would be given if the Tories didn't dance to Murdoch tune

Mays making a speech on Brexit tomorrow. Shouldn't take long then. Blink and you'll miss it.

whitewave Sat 01-Oct-16 12:50:16

If she uses the phrase "Brexit means Brexit" I might have to arrange a large raspberry from off stage.

nigglynellie Sat 01-Oct-16 13:04:15

For most people on this thread, she's damned if she does and damned if she doesn't! that goes for everything, not just Brexit! No argument no discussion, she's rubbish, end of! Sad really!

daphnedill Sat 01-Oct-16 13:05:02

Read that link carefully! Javid doesn't actually promise that builders will definitely get visas. He says they are 'set to be', 'they are in line', 'we don't want to...'.

Until deals are signed, sealed and delivered, it all seems like 'back of a fag packet' policy making. They're running around like a bunch of headless chickens chucking out (sorry about the pun) promises every so often to keep critics off their backs.

whitewave Sat 01-Oct-16 13:07:03

nellie same as some think of Corbyn then!

daphnedill Sat 01-Oct-16 13:08:50

I disagree with you, niggly. Personally, I think she's got an impossible job re Brexit, because Tories themselves are divided. It's her back benchers and some of her Cabinet colleagues who will damn her - maybe not so publicly as in Labour, because Tories have always been better at keeping up a united front, until the knives are well and truly sharpened.

whitewave Sat 01-Oct-16 13:16:16

They are coming out of the woodwork though. Morgan, Soubry and Clarke to name just three.

May sacked more than she has majority, so they are apparently waiting to trash her given the opportunity.

nigglynellie Sat 01-Oct-16 14:13:31

You wish!! What a mine of information you all are, presumably you have the ear of number 10 and know absolutely every last move and conversation! Extraordinary!! You clearly have inside information in every political institution, quite amazing! The rest of us will clearly have to defer to your superior knowledge, roses, please take note!!!!

whitewave Sat 01-Oct-16 14:16:29

Gove and Osborne are another couple waiting in the wings.

Just think what we'd know if the media was hostile to the Tories as well.

daphnedill Sat 01-Oct-16 14:29:28

I'm not sure how she obtained my email address (probably because I signed up to a couple of pro-Remain sites), but I receive emails from Anna Soubry. You don't have to have an ear to Number 10 to know that she and a number of others are coming out of the woodwork.

Oh, and by the way, I've often wondered how you and some others can state so categorically what is happening. All very puzzling!

Tegan Sat 01-Oct-16 14:57:44

Yes;that's the one jen. Just been into town shopping today. Huge police presence. Asked one of them why. Was told there was an EDL march. Told him about how a EDL march in Nottingham had meant closing down the 'seaside' In the main square and cost 1/4 million to police. I said that, democracy or not I didn't think that people like that should be allowed to march and cause so much disruption. His reply was a sad 'trouble is, they're marching 25 years too late'.Unless I (as I seem to do a lot these days)misinterpreted what he meant, the police are as racist as a lot of other people in this country. This has really saddened me. I would like to 'lighten up',as suggested but, thus far haven't come across anything to make me do so.

daphnedill Sat 01-Oct-16 15:27:13

I don't think you misinterpreted him and I'd be tempted to report the officer. The police aren't all racist, but some of them certainly are.

If it was this march, it seems that not many people turned up grin

Tegan Sat 01-Oct-16 15:41:28

No, it wasn't there dd. I'm still in disbelief at the comment, to the point where I feel I must have imagined it (although I know that I didn't).

petra Sat 01-Oct-16 15:41:35

Tegan it could be that that policeman had arrested some ' ne'er do wells ' and they have pulled the race card on him. I don't want to shock your sensibilities but it does happen.

whitewave Sat 01-Oct-16 15:43:45

Hmm - you think petra?

Tegan Sat 01-Oct-16 16:09:46

What do you mean by ne'er do wells petra? I'm sorry but you know how thick I am when it comes to things like this.Or are you trying to justify why a policeman should have racist leanings? I'm a bit confused.

daphnedill Sat 01-Oct-16 16:13:52

Glad to hear it, Tegan. This is a photo from the Boston march...

From Twitter Shaun West Chief Superintendant, Lincolnshire Police:
“Protest update - head count of no more than 20 EDL in attendance from across the country - including their film crew”

Ha ha ha! Good job we're not relying on these 'patriots' to defend us from aliens! I wonder how much the whole thing cost Lincolnshire Police.

daphnedill Sat 01-Oct-16 16:17:27

The police should never put themselves in the position of having the race card thrown at them. Too many of them use it as an excuse for laziness (and that's from the mouth of a serving Essex Police Officer). The law is colour-blind and the police should enforce it, no matter what colour skin a person has. It works both ways.

daphnedill Sat 01-Oct-16 16:18:34

See above for a dozen or so 'ne'er do wells'.

Tegan Sat 01-Oct-16 17:48:38

I think this incident pretty much sums up how different peoples minds interpret different situations.

daphnedill Sat 01-Oct-16 19:13:20

It must be quite difficult for the police to keep their cool sometimes, but that's what they're paid to do. I used to feel the same as a teacher sometimes. It's what being a professional is about.

JessM Sat 01-Oct-16 20:38:47

Pity you didn't make a note of his number Tegan that is completely inappropriate.
