The 1972 Act that enshrined the EU law into UK law is to be repealed. The existing EU laws will remain and get repealed as necessary in future.

That will of course very much depend I assume on the negotiated settlement with the EU.
No other EU law will now enter UK law.

I don't think they've thought through the NHS immigrant staffing problem, whitewave.
Can you imagine being a surgeon and being told you can stay here for a few more years until we've trained up the British ones we need, and then we'll let you go back where you came from!
20% of doctors go back home now, and leave them to it.

I am sure any grans who do or are considering voting Tory are as capable of making their decisions themselves as I am when or if I vote decide Labour,

It's going to be at least ten years before we have more British doctors.Presumably the plan would be to have more homegrown doctors as well as those from Europe or overseas, but at that point we would be able to 'tailor' our needs. There is nothing wrong with trying to train up more British doctors, surgeons, nurses. We should also encourage and train more engineers.

We can't even hang on to the doctors we've already got. It seems to me that the pledges made regarding training new doctors doesn't take account of the fact that so many doctors are already leaving the profession and perhaps the country, and any new recruitment will just bring the numbers back to where they were in the first place, which will be wholly inadequate given an ageing and more unhealthy population.

Apart from that, it takes years for a doctor to train as, following the five years, I believe they have to undertake placements in order to determine what area of medicine they wish to specialise in.

Given that we've already got a crisis in numbers, it seems to me that introducing a contract that the majority of doctors disagree with is guaranteed to make the situation worse. But I stand by my belief that Conservative governments are not committed to our public services and would rather see almost everything privatised.

Oh dear I certainly wouldn't describe myself as elite, but I am climate change fearing, remain voting, latte drinking, quinoa munching, BBC loving, and politically correct. I am without hope grin

Anniebach Wed 05-Oct-16 21:43:47

It takes ten years to qualify as a G P , as many G P's are taking early retirement it is impossible for the government to run the NHS without foreign! doctors ,

durhamjen Wed 05-Oct-16 21:50:13

Whitewave, I drink black coffee. Does herbal tea count the same as latte?
I am everything else on the list. Don't mind being disliked by Theresa May.

whitewave Wed 05-Oct-16 21:53:31

Herbal tea is so liberal elite dj I wonder you dare admit to such a sin

whitewave Wed 05-Oct-16 21:55:48

I am delighted to be disliked by the Daily Mail though. Would be really worried if they approved.

An interesting view of your rights. Mine, too.

Just had a thought. Maybe she wants to get rid of human rights for the forces. They can take the MOD to court for not having the right equipment.

This is why she wants to get rid of human rights.

Theresa May just turned into Willy Wonka!
"Come with me..."
I bet she'll be wishing she hadn't said that tomorrow when she reads the papers.

Welshwife Thu 06-Oct-16 08:14:50

Out yesterday and have just had a lot of catching up to do! Although nowhere near ever being a Tory I did gave hopes that TM might have just been the best person for the job and be a sensible choice. Like many others I am totally shocked at much of the statements she has made and the policies she appears to intend to follow.
I found it very interesting yesterday watching M Verhstadt (sp?) in the EU parliament ending his speech by saying that 48% of the British people voted to remain in the EU and they must not be forgotten. He is one of the few prominent politicians to acknowledge the remain vote was so high. In case you have not seen the speech he also mentioned the blatant lies told to the British electorate. He talked about the tragedy of Alleppo and how the EU must up its game even if that means standing up to Putin. The speech can be found on YouTube I think it was.

whitewave Thu 06-Oct-16 08:56:13

Love it!!!!!

Guess who is being quoted in supporting the governments new economic strategy?

Why our old friend Keynes.

Mind you the government is talking as if it has just invented the wheel. Well I suppose that is how it feels to them.
None so blind etc.

whitewave Thu 06-Oct-16 10:20:00

Of course we must bear in mind that so much of the rhetoric is being directed at UKIP supporters, who tend to be the disaffected working class.

Ana Thu 06-Oct-16 10:22:40

Oh yes, that'll be it.

Anniebach Thu 06-Oct-16 10:48:00

The Tories are targeting labour seats , more so the marginals , the Libs are doing the same. Even this pea brain can see why , Labour Party is a shambles .

Tegan Thu 06-Oct-16 10:58:03

I'm still in a state of disbelief about what has happened to this country over the past few months. As to where we are and where we're going I think I may have to continue with my head in the sand policy, as I can't cope with it. Throw Trump into the mix and even that policy isn't enough. Anyone know of a spare hermits cave I could move to?

Jane10 Thu 06-Oct-16 11:23:13

Erm I quite like Theresa May. She's been landed with trying to sort out a shambles. (Dons tin hat and runs to chat threads)

rosesarered Thu 06-Oct-16 11:31:23

It doesn't matter about liking a PM, as long as they do the job.Too early for anyone to be making judgements when May has only been PM for such a short while.
WW there is certainly no hope for you, on the quinoa munching bit alone! grin

Jane10 Thu 06-Oct-16 11:43:34

I suppose my liking her translates into having some faith that she will try to make the best of an impossible job. Nobody will ever be happy with everything she does and some are determined not to be. Time will tell
