www.thetimes.co.uk/article/firms-must-list-foreign-workers-gw20ndp5x

Saw this report this am and my blood ran cold. Is this - lists of all foreigners - not the beginning of a very slippery slope which leads to yellow stars sewn on to clothing?

I'm wondering what constitutes a 'FOREIGNER'? Surely not my very good French born Scottish friend who has lived, worked, been married in the UK for nearly 50 years? Or the 3rd generation Asian Scots who run our local convenience store? Or the music teacher who coaches the Wee Community steel band - she's from the USA (and one of the drummers is (shock horror) German. Or the Syrian and Polish families now at school with my DGC. What about DH's Consultants? The last one was from New Zealand, the Current one is, I think, Indian. Will the Houses of Parliament have to list all the MPs and Lords who were born elsewhere.

Am I the only one to hear alarm bells ringing in my ears more loudly than usual? Have we reached a tipping point, where rampant British Nationalism is the only mantra?

Any thread that brings Hitler into the mix is doomed!

whitewave Sat 08-Oct-16 17:18:18

Hitler wasn't brought into the debate, but if you read my posts I was developing the argument about myth. That also answers your question ana

whitewave Sat 08-Oct-16 17:19:07

Sorry to cut this short I've just been reminded I'm due at restaurant at 6pm.

rosesarered Sat 08-Oct-16 17:21:50

Lucky you.??????

daphnedill Sat 08-Oct-16 17:28:56

Why is any thread about Nazi Germany doomed? How about the 1930s British press? There was the same kind of rhetoric.

Maybe we really are doomed never to learn from history.

suzied Sat 08-Oct-16 19:11:55

Are we supposed to forget about the conditions that gave rise to Nazism ? Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. No one is saying Amber Rudd is a quasi Hitler, just saying her proposal is similar to the early policies of a certain A. Hitler. And as such, strike a chilling note.

Jalima Sat 08-Oct-16 20:16:09

I find the Labour Party's lurking anti-Semitism chilling too.

Jalima Sat 08-Oct-16 20:16:38

not 'too' hmm

daphnedill Sat 08-Oct-16 20:52:02

Strowman examnet

daphnedill Sat 08-Oct-16 20:55:48

*exament = fat finegrs (honest)

daphnedill Sat 08-Oct-16 20:59:09

@susied

Some people prefer to dig their hands in the sand. I'm actually surprised their nostrils aren't full of sand. Maybe they are, but they breathe trough their mouths.

daphnedill Sat 08-Oct-16 21:00:11

I find the Labour Party's anti-semiticism very suspicious.

Anniebach Sat 08-Oct-16 21:12:30

I didn't believe there was anti semitism in the Labour party, now I am unsure, I do object strongly to the Shami debacle, there was the fact an MP who is a Jew suffered that verbal abuse by a momentum member and then the vice chair of momentum - who had been suspended then allowed back in earlier this year- declaring didn't know what the definition of anti semitism was , suspended again , this was all in full view /,knowledge of the public, what is said behind closed doors

Ana Sat 08-Oct-16 21:15:11

Hands in the sand?

Labour's anti-Semitism is very distasteful, don't know about suspicious. Surely you're not denying the evidence?

Ana Sat 08-Oct-16 21:16:01

(to daphnedill)

Anniebach Sat 08-Oct-16 21:30:43

At one time there were quite a number of Jews in the Labour Party , I just don't recognise the party now , it seems dark and secretive and has attracted some very unsavoury bullies

trisher Sat 08-Oct-16 22:48:04

Don't let facts get in the way of your prejudices Annie there is still a Jewish Labour organisation affiliated to the Labour party you profess to know so much about, www.jlm.org.uk/jlm_rule_change

Anniebach Sat 08-Oct-16 23:28:34

Do not accuse me of predjuduce please, I do not want the party run by militants and trots, this is based on knowledge of their previous attempts and the damaged they caused in the past.

Anniebach Sat 08-Oct-16 23:32:17

come the next election trisher we will see if my knowledge which comes from experience proves correct and your googled links proves how misled you have been , sadness is it will be too late

durhamjen Sat 08-Oct-16 23:39:37

'What is step 4 Trisher ( in your view?)'

Roses asked this. Sorry it's taken so long to respond, Ana. I've been out for dinner.

durhamjen Sat 08-Oct-16 23:41:33

edgar1981.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/which-british-political-party-is-most.html

anti-semitic.

Anniebach Sun 09-Oct-16 00:20:24

Trisher, sorry I forgot to add, I do have sympathy and understanding of your belief in Corbyn, I too was fooled by him, I just learned much earlier than you, he is not to be trusted

trisher Sun 09-Oct-16 11:10:05

Let's stop turning this once again into a Corbyn discussion. I support him because he has policies I wholeheartedly agree with. You consider them to be unelectable Annie perhaps they are, but as I get older I find I am becoming less and less willing to compromise. I do believe Trident is the biggest and most expensive con ever perpetrated upon the British public and I would get rid of it. I don't think student loans do the job they were supposed to and I do think the housing market should be better regulated. I don't care for personalities, policies matter to me.

Anniebach Sun 09-Oct-16 11:17:42

I thought the same about it turning into yet another Corbyn thread trisher, not fair on posters . I too think policies are most important , where we differ is I accept a party has to gain power to carry out it's policies, what use is being in oposition , yes verbal battles at PMQ once a week. This didn't stop the bedroom tax did it?

Battling over immigrants will not change the government's stance ,

trisher Sun 09-Oct-16 11:25:47

Would you have said the same to the people who stood together on Cable Street? The threat of extremist right parties is rising everywhere. Those who believe a policy is wrong need to stand and say so, blaming immigrants and foreigners for the state of the economy cannot be considered acceptable. The fact is of course that listing all foreign workers is impossible there are agency staff, temporary staff, casual workers and many others, some would always slip through the radar.
