I am delighted about two things this evening.
1. Hilary Benn has been appointed as Chair of the Select Committee on Brexit, thus (imo) ensuring proper scrutiny.
2. The noun Brexit has been designated as masculine in French, German and Spanish (but not Italian).

Sexism!!!

I am awaiting the appearance of le hard Brexit and le soft Brexit on the telly.
At least I have the vocabulary to respond to the daily interrogation.

I asked my next door neighbour who is from Lithuania what she felt: she said, what is the problem? there is no problem.... As Day6 said, most people are just getting on with their lives.

By the way, I am 'getting on with things'. Everyone is 'getting on with things'. Not heard of a single person taking to their bed and refusing to leave it because of brexit . Doesn't mean that I can't 'get on with things' and question what's happening at the same time. Remainers can multitask y'know ....

Ah yes, getting on with things here too. Cancelled new kitchen and trip of a lifetime (his 70th and our 45th) - but no matter, we are getting on with things.

Having lost 40% of income since we moved here, and now another 20 since the Referendum - getting on with it and not panicking is not easy- but we won't be sunk- but we won't be silenced either.

I'd like to see you, petra, getting on calmly with things if your household budget was cut by 60%...

Honestly, I've never known someone complain so much about their lot - hard luck if the referendum vote didn't go your way. At least you have property in the UK if you reluctantly have to move here.

When someone complains that they've had to cancel their new kitchen and a holiday because of Brexit, my sympathy evaporates...

Why? Because no-one is actually entitled to the holiday of a lifetime, or a new kitchen?

Is this what 'getting on with it' is all about? Everyone having to put up with the pain caused by something they didn't even want?

I can see loss of new kitchen and hols is disappointing but hardly deprivation! Having never had or wanted either of these things I suppose I see it from a different perspective. My SIL lives in France. When they went there ten or so years ago, the were very aware that a hicup in the financial world could adversely affect them, so bearing that in mind, they sensibly kept/let their bungalow in the UK. Now, they are in the process of moving back to the UK, and doing holiday lets with house in France. It'll take a bit of sorting, but yes, they're up beat and getting on with it!

But Ana, you are truly showing your really nasty, unpleasant side. Anyone who loses 60% of income through no fault of their own, after a lifetime of working very very long hours to the point of losing your health and making massive sacrifices, is entitled to say it is truly disappointing. We can hold on, so far- but not sure what will happen if the £ keeps dropping and we end up on 30% or less of income- as we have committed ourselves. As Mamie, we did plan for fluctuations and changes- but 60% is hard to fathom.

oh yes Petra- I am truly grateful for that-and not complaining per se and fully aware a holiday of a lifetime is just that, a holiday- even if we have been waiting for it for many many years. I've been saving for it for 10 years- for OH's 70th- as he nearly lost his life twice due to his extremely long and stressful working hours. But that is fine ... and not important- you are so right.

There are ways and ways of saying such things- and I'm afraid the way it was said tonight was just beyond the pail and sad.

I'll definitely survive - and you are so right too, that most would have gone under and worse, if they'd lost 60% of income. And that illustrates, again, just how lucky I am. Night night.

I thought that you had two houses granjura one here and one in Switzerland, and you visit between the two.
Ana's comment was certainly not vitriolic ( a much over used word by posters on here) nor was it despicable, and nobody is 'frothing at the mouth' ( that's weird.)

Some Irish politician on BBC News tonight was bemoaning the fact that the people who voted for brexit gave no thought for how it might affect Ireland and it's people. I'm actually starting to feel sorry for people who have hearts so hard that they don't care that what they have created in brexit may be/will be causing hardship for others.

And I don't think anyone said that 'most would have gone under' - where did that come from...?
