Thanks for explanation re name changing but whilst I agree it's up to individuals to disclose if they have done this, not necessarily why, it seems more trustworthy to me to do so.

On MN people often name change when they want to discuss something that might easily out them otherwise or is very personal. Once that thread has run its course they will name change back. I used it once when I needed some health advice and didn't want that aspect to become part of my MN 'persona'.

PMQs and the issue of clarity re Brexit

We have learned that Brexit means Brexit - that tautology so beloved by our PM
We have learned that we intend to get the best possible deal for Britain. Well I would hope that she wouldn't stand up and say we intend to deliver a mediocre deal or even a so so deal.
What else have we learned to date? Bugger All.

Nothing about the Irish Border and Customs union.
Nothing about the threat over relocation by the aerospace industries, the car industries and the banks
Nothing about the fact that investment is drying up.

May was clear that free movement was going to be stopped, but didn't seem to understand that she could sort out 50% of the problem (so called) tomorrow.
Free trade was accepted as desirable. Hmm. Although she sort of hinted that we may stay in the single market, in which case we will by definition we will be part of the Customs Union, but that would not allow for free trade negotiations. But given her apparent intransigence over free movement that will be interesting in future discussions.

George V1th was German through and through right from Victoria, who was German, marrying Prince Albert. Edward V11th married Alexandra, who although Danish, was in fact German, George Vth married Mary of Teck, (Germany again) leading to George V1th! HM is in fact half German! Prince Charles is even more so as Prince Phillip of Greece's family are in fact, German!

You haven't gone back far enough, nn if you're so desperate to prove that the Queen is thoroughly German. You need to go back at least as far as Sophie, Electress of Hanover (cousin of Charles II, of thoroughly mixed inheritance - Scots/Danish on her mother's side, German on her father's side) married to the German Elector of Hanover and mother of King George I.

Half of Her Maj's genes come from her mother, whose Bowes-Lyon ancestry was Scottish/English - the Lyon part trace their roots way back to Northumberland in the 12th Century.

I do wish May would show some spine and outline what she really thinks about Brexit. That is if she knows. The Goldman Sachs speech may well have actually indicated her real attitude as May was in banking prior to her entry into politics.

She clearly believes contrary to her recent rhetoric that any future outside of the single market would mean a business exodus from Britain.

The British voter deserves to be treated to more respect than she is showing them at present.

Most of us probably have Germanic/Norse genes, like our language, especially northerners.

I think she's showing spine by not doing a "running commentary", especially when you consider how much people are complaining about her current stance.

If the genes of all the ruling (and no longer ruling) royal houses of Europe were analysed, there would probably be more Danish ancestry than anything else. Apart from the earlier waves of Scandiwegians who poured west in longboats and into the general bloodlines, there is the massive contribution of the Danish royal family.

His daughter Alexandra married the future Edward VII
Daughter Maria became Queen consort of Tsar Alexander III
Daughter Thyra married Ernest Augustus, Crown Prince of Hanover.
Son George was asked to become King of Greece.

His grandchildren included King George V of the United Kingdom, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, King Constantine I of Greece and both King Haakon VII & his consort, Queen Maud of Norway.

In fact you have to go back to Elizabeth the winter queen daughter of James V1th/1st, and beyond MaizieD, but as you say that is by the by. I'm not desperate to prove the Queens German ancestry, just pointing it out in answer to a post by Ana. Why does discussing it make you so angry?!
