Good Brexit news....Nissan in Sunderland are going to build new cars there, securing the jobs .Also growth looks good, better than expected in the UK since June.

So it looks like the EU/Canada deal (CETA) will go ahead albeit with 'revised text'.

That should please you durhamjen , Maizied and a few other posters who were against the deal as it stood.

What does your MEP who sends you personal e.mails concerning CETA and TTIP have to say.? I am interested as to what the 'revised text' concerns, she would obviously know as you have told us she sits on the committee involved.

Quarterly figures.

Services have performed better than expected and helped lift growth from 0.3 expected growth to 0.5%.
Heavy intervention by the Bank of England during this period has helped the figures.

However, agriculture, manufacturing and construction has performed worse than expected.

These figures are indicators but it is very early days its regard to the economy and Brexit.

Jalima, I wasn't saying anything of the sort, I was just pointing out that the royal family have a lot of German ancestors in reply to a post that, with respect, wasn't addressed to you. Actually I find history/ancestry very interesting especially European royalty and the way they have over the centuries interconnected. I studied Tudor/Stuart/Hanovarian history for both O and A level, passing both. I wasn't making anything of it, just discussing with another poster.

Yes it is excellent news re Sunderland and the Nissan promise to not only keep the present work force but probably increase the employment numbers by expanding their production of not only the Qashqui SUV but the X-Trail also.

Also the economy grew 0.05% flying in the face of the prediction of an immediate 'Financial Armageddon' predicted by so many economists and Remain commentators.

Only a fool will be confident that this good news is not subject to changing on the turn of a sixpence but equally some have made some foolish predictions so far too.

It has to be taken day by day, week to week but it is only fair to feel as happy about good news as it is to be concerned about bad news, as long as the 'facts' are taken into consideration not here say, bias predictions or ill informed bias rhetoric whether a Remainer or Leaver. Lord knows there is enough of that about, the Nissan story is proof of waiting for the facts to know and understand the truth.

I am waiting for the disapproval of Theresa May to come forward , it has already started. Can't win scenario.

threads do have a tendency to meander, though, MaizieD, just as conversations go off piste and you wonder what led you there and what you were talking about in the first place. At least with a thread and an OP you can get it back on track.

I know, from experience of a number of forums, that threads meander but there's usually a tenuous connection between the OP and the meander... I can't find one between the Queen's ancestry and Brexit

Back to Nissan, bribes, not more bailing out of car firms surely, although would the Labour party be good for any useful advice on that as they have previously bailed out car firms, banks etc?

I see that Hilary Benn has been chosen to chair the Parliamentary Committee set up to scrutinise government policy on the exit from the EU. I think Michael Gove is on the committee too. Should be interesting.
