I see the FBI have stated that there is no further case to answer.
Will this affect the election?

Marieeliz Mon 07-Nov-16 17:04:13

We seem to be very interested in the result of the American election. If the UK were having an election now and you were in the USA. You would not hear a thing about it. I have been in that situation in the past. These people are not interested in anything else going on in the world hence the kind of leaders they elect.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 17:23:27

The US was interested in Brexit, though.
Of course we are interested in whether Trump ends up in the Whitehouse, because some of us are very frightened at the idea.

Anya Mon 07-Nov-16 17:24:07

Ah, but we are not typical of the UK population, we are a uniquely intelligent example of the species.

pollyperkins Mon 07-Nov-16 17:27:52

Indeed Ana! wink

Candlefran Mon 07-Nov-16 17:29:46

durhamjen grin (11:58:01)

Ana Mon 07-Nov-16 17:49:08

I can't imagine you being 'very frightened' durhamjen.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 17:54:08

If you are not very frightened of the idea of having Trump as president, then you don't have much of an imagination.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 17:56:57

Looks like Clinton could win the three most important states that Trump needs, Florida, North Carolina and Nevada.

Anya Mon 07-Nov-16 18:14:41

Let's have less of the personal comments. I have no reason to think Ana lacks imagination.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 18:23:52

I think Ana made the first personal comment, Anya.
Do you have any reason to think I am not very frightened of Trump being elected president? Why are you not criticising that? Of course, you don't, do you?

Anyway, how do you know I didn't mean you as a plural, meaning anyone?

sarahellenwhitney Mon 07-Nov-16 18:28:13

Unless a US citizen I do not believe we in the UK are qualified to say who we believe should win.

Having US citizen relatives who inform me that in many states, especially the mid west, jobs are hard to find, wages are so low that people find it difficult to make ends meet and a mortgage beyond the reach of many.Sounds familiar??
Perhaps its time for a change.

Ana Mon 07-Nov-16 18:29:13

I simply meant that I couldn't imagine you cowering in a corner like a frightened child, durhamjen, you'd surely have more gumption than that.

You could actually take it as a compliment, if you were so inclined.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 18:33:09

I have relatives in Florida and Illinois, sarah.
They are worried that change will happen in the form of Trump.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 18:36:46

There was nearly a transport strike in Philadelphia, which would have affected the vote, as there are lots of poor residents there. Fortunately they came to an agreement this morning.

DaphneBroon Mon 07-Nov-16 18:37:47

sarahellenwhitney, given that the US is the most powerful country in the world and ideologically opposed to the other main power Russia, I think the only people who might feel confident about not taking (or indeed expressing) an interest, must live on a distant galaxy far, far away.
What happens in the US affects ALL OF US and it is disingenuous to think we are not entitled to have an opinion.
Yes, the distance between rich and poor has grown, yes there are economic problems, but nothing convinces me that Trump has anything to offfer other than whipping up persecution hostility against minority sections of society. To paraphrase Theresa May, "Remind you of someone?"
No, a change to Trump would not be a change worth having.

annodomini Mon 07-Nov-16 19:23:07

I don't know if it's the USA's historic opposition to Russia or Trump's avowed admiration for Putin that alarms me more.

Strange how he always calls her dishonest. I wonder how many voters have voted for him because of him saying that ad infinitum.

Anya Mon 07-Nov-16 19:59:30

We are entitled to comment Sarah this could have implications far wider than someone's job prospects in the Midwest.

durhamjenI believe you put words in my mouth. I did not say I wanted Trump to win. Actually I wanted Bernie to win. I am saying that I fear if Trump does win there will be rioting because many of his followers are rilled up.
Don't know if you Brits knew Trump had a woman who filed a rape charge against him recently but withdrew her lawsuit as she was getting death threats. Have you heard what he says about woman? Or how he made fun of a person with disabilities? Or how he didn't pay employees? People want change as many in your country did with Brexit. He was the only non political alternative.
And yes I am interested in elections in many countries as we are now a global society and what happens in one country affects us all.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 20:21:29

Had to look back there to see what I said.
I wasn't putting words in your mouth, but asking you a question, which is why there was a question mark after asking Are you saying...?

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 20:25:31

Yes, I know about that woman, the one who was 13, I think, when it happened. Anybody who reads political stuff knows about all those things he has done.
His minders have now stopped him tweeting so he doesn't say anything he shouldn't.
Of course, the democrat line is, if he can't be trusted to tweet, how can he be trusted with nuclear anything.
I noticed that Bernie was with Clinton today.

POGS Mon 07-Nov-16 20:31:47

It was said in a post today

"I do not understand what wikileaks get out of it".

I know by reading posts on Gransnet over the years some posters are admirers of John Pilger and Julian Assange/wikileaks. It is obvious some posters are admirers of Hilary Clinton. Some posters are vocal over the governments connections with Saudi Arabia.

What do you feel about the John Pilger/Assange interview shown on Russia Today on saturday? (I know a few GNers watch Russia Today). If you have not watched it it is interesting. I don't know how much truth I would apply to Pilger/Assange/Russia Today , but obviously some posters do.

The interview is very damning against Hilary Clinton.

To be honest I would put up extracts from the interview but I am wary of doing so, it discusses the Clinton Foundation resources and payments, the FBI and Clinton's etc. It is not pro Trump either. This is the Full Transcript of the interview.:-

www.rt.com/news/365405-assange-pilger-full-transcript/

It is on you tube to view also. The interview was shown on Saturday.

I am no fan of Assange/wikileaks by any stretch of the imagination but how can those who do find him some sort of liberal, left Icon pick and choose when to believe what he and wikileaks release.

I can't abide either Trump or Clinton.

Assange: Clinton is a cog for Goldman Sachs & the Saudis (JOHN PILGER EXCLUSIVE VIDEO & TRANSCRIPT)

Whistleblower Julian Assange has given one of his most incendiary interviews ever in a John Pilger Special, courtesy of Dartmouth Films, in which he summarizes what can be gleaned from the tens of thousands of Clinton emails released by WikiLeaks this year.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 20:58:28

I'd quite like them to do a similar interview about the UK government and its links to banks and Saudi and Qatar, the revolving door.

Insulting Americans by saying they would have no interest if an election was taking place here is offensive and not borne out by talking with citizens of that country. The outcome of their election doesn't only affect America, there are significant risks for the rest of the world in Trump wins.
