Oh joy! Oh wonder! Tony effing Blair is trying to get on the Remoaner train to derail Brexit. "The PM's a lightweight and Corbyn's a nutter so I'm back".

How jolly! Everyone will be so pleased. We love you, Tony. [fingers down throat emoji]

I thought it was a load of twot! Why limit yourself to two sentences when saying something when you can waffle on for ever?

rosesarered Tue 06-Dec-16 20:54:58

I think that newspapers demand more than a few sentences from their columnists ww grin

whitewave Tue 06-Dec-16 21:03:34

They certainly got it!

Question

Has that ridiculous phrase "Brexit means Brexit" been replaced with another equally ridiculous phrase "Red, white and blue Brexit"?

Honestly it is the politics of the mad house.

Ana Tue 06-Dec-16 21:17:03

I should go for a nice lie-down whitewave - all this government watching is obviously not doing you any good! grin

whitewave Tue 06-Dec-16 21:22:30

No it isn't ana

I don't feel remotely full of peace and goodwill at the moment, but have greater hopes in the next couple of weekswinewinewine

Niall Ferguson, britains most influential historian opened his speech at the Milken Institute on the future of Europe with stating that he was wrong to vote for remain.
He called us ( brexiters) Anglo-Loonies and Happy Morons. At least he's big enough and honest enough to admit he was wrong.

Beammeupscottie Wed 07-Dec-16 09:22:56

Niall Ferguson has realisd that we are seeing the slow break-up of the European Union, which Brexit triggered. We will not be the only Country to leave over the coming decade.
I think new alliances will form from Northern Europe to Southern Europe. Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the EU built around socialist principles that are losing out in Europe to right wing popularism?

whitewave Wed 07-Dec-16 09:32:24

Pity to use the word populism when we really mean fascism or at least a version f it.

whitewave Wed 07-Dec-16 10:05:08

I disagree with Fergusan being the most influential historian. He is well known, but for a particular ideological standpoint. So influential if you agree with his views, but anathema if you don't.

rosesarered Wed 07-Dec-16 14:49:26

That's one of the flaws of experts.....they all disagree with each other.

whitewave Wed 07-Dec-16 14:52:22

Oh! Surely you aren't supporting Gove and his silly statement about experts?

rosesarered Wed 07-Dec-16 14:55:19

tchgrin

rosesarered Wed 07-Dec-16 14:57:19

Sometimes people don't like experts because they disagree with what they say, you pays yer money and takes you takes yer choice as my late FIL used to say.

MaizieD Wed 07-Dec-16 15:32:44

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the EU built around socialist principles that are losing out in Europe to right wing popularism?

I most devoutly hope that you are wrong.

daphnedill Wed 07-Dec-16 16:59:52

Who on earth said Niall Ferguson is Britain's most influential historian? What a joke!! He most certainly isn't!!

Sorry, didn't realise there are two threads about him. I'm going out, but I'll come back.

Can't believe that Labour were taken in by May's amendment.
She can carry on with what she's doing and tell MPs the day before the end of March. What idiots, and those Tories who were opposing her as well.

whitewave Wed 07-Dec-16 19:29:48

I thought exactly the same.

durhamjen Wed 07-Dec-16 21:43:00

Pleased about that. Such a shame that MPs are such a trusting bunch.

Why do the justices need to come to a decision now, as the MPs have had a vote on it?
Iain Duncan Smith says that MPs have given Theresa May a blank cheque, even though Starmer says there are conditions that have to be met.

rosesarered Wed 07-Dec-16 21:50:20

I really doubt that MP's are a trusting bunch.Probably the best way forward.

daphnedill Thu 08-Dec-16 01:44:18

Errmm...yes well... could be that people don't understand arguments, but go along with the flow. Can't say that, obviously, because that would be patronisong. What a strange world we inhabit!

PS. I suspect you won't understand that, rosesarered. Tant pis!

whitewave Thu 08-Dec-16 09:55:32

See London banks -lending houses in advanced stage of planning move to Paris.
Oh joy!

whitewave Thu 08-Dec-16 10:00:18

Actually thinking about the vote last night, not sure it is too worrying. It simply recognises the referendum majority to leave, which everyone accepts. Except of course if it was the other way around and the right wing would be screaming blue murder about tiny majorities etc.

Getting back to the vote, I think this really accepts the government timetable - which to my mind is daft - I agree with Ben Bradshaw argument on this, but that is ALL is accepts. The 48% will still be represent ed I trust when the debates about what we want the UK to look like after Brexit.

rosesarered Thu 08-Dec-16 10:01:52

Tant pis indeed dd tchgrin you really do love to be patronising.....still, whatever floats your boat hey?
