How to Keep Living at Home Longer

There have been headlines over the weekend, in response to the recent polling, on the lines of "Nobody voted for Brexit in order to become poorer" (though they were good at dsmissing warnings that they would as 'scaremongering') Richard Murphy takes us through 10 reasons why he thinks it is inevitable. If anyone has an authoritative source to counter his points I'd be happy to see it.

Didn't daphnedill use the phrase 'pussy-grabbers' yesterday? Didn't notice you objecting then, whitewave...
perhaps daphnedill meant proper pussies like Mrs Slocombe's.
Granjura - "more and more will realise they have been mis-sold a very sick pup."
I think more and more, including those who voted to remain, will appreciate the EU is now the EXTREMELY sick pup. It's in a state of flux. If it were a garment it would be falling apart at the seams. We are in for some interesting times as the EU disintegrates.
I for one am extremely happy we are leaving it. It's struggling. Look to France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Greece and Spain and the high levels of unrest, political upheaval and unemployment in many, many EU countries. Is it worth examining what's going on in abysmally poor Eastern European member countries? It's not a happy union, and most people, even lots of Remainers I know, appreciate that. It's on it's last legs.
Those sex assaults by 'hundreds of asylum seekers' petra?
www.independent.co.uk/voices/cologne-sex-assaults-muslim-rape-myths-fit-a-neo-nazi-agenda-a6872566.html
Bizarre! It would appear to be acceptable to assault others, just so long as they're from the same ethnic background. Yes, I did use the expression 'pussy grabber' quite deliberately. I really don't understand how anybody can find what Trump was describing as remotely acceptable.
Ah well Day6! I'm not happy, but have given up on discussion. The important thing now is that leaving doesn't make the situation in the UK worse and I'm really not holding my breath. There are plenty of vultures circling.
Bizarre! It would appear to be acceptable to assault others, just so long as they're from the same ethnic background.
Was that in response to the link I posted to show that 'hundreds of asylum seekers' weren't to blame for the cologne attacks? Because I only did it to counter hysterical misinformation, not to condone in any way.
Interesting that about half the complaints were for theft, not sexual attacks. But we've probably been over this topic at the time it happened. Strange that the truth about 'asylum seekers' was out in February but people are still repeating the racist lies 10 months later.
That is what I meant about petras turn of phrase maizie fascist in its overtone - nothing to do with pussy grabbing - unpleasant though I find it.
That's because some people prefer to ignore the truth, Maizie.
It also doesn't get printed in the papers they read.
Whitewave If you could give me a valid reason why it's ok for daphnidill to use a torrid turn of phrase and not me I would be more than happy to abide by your rules.
Maizie thank you so much for that article- I so hope all will read it.
Petra- context is everything, + tone and intentions.
This is interesting, about arms exports once we've left the EU.
theconversation.com/what-will-happen-to-arms-exports-under-brexit-70498
EU countries can block our sales of conventional weapons, but not of nuclear, biological or chemical weapons.
I live in the EU and as pensioners we will be affected by the Brexit especially regarding our residence status and access to medical care. However, my husband voted for the Brexit and I agree with his views that the UK needs to take back control of its borders and be able to provide health, education, welfare etc for the people who live there and have contributed to the system. The EU has become too big, admitted countries that cannot pay their way and totally mishandled the refugee situation over the past two years. I believe that once free of the EU, after a short time, the country as a whole will benefit from better trade deals worldwide, the income from taxes etc will be spent on eg NHS, education and other public services and the people living in the UK will benefit directly.
The only problem there is that this government does not want to spend its money on the NHS, education and other public services. You might have seen that written on the side of a bus, but it was a con.
How many EU citizens do you think have actually contributed to the system?
DAY 6 as someone who lives in Germany I have to admit there is no sign of Germany not doing well. We are a long way off breaking point. We have a well functioning health system, a good school system, mostly enough teachers with degrees and plenty of work. There are so many jobs the vacances can't all be filled. And we are at peace with our neighbours
I know England well - I am english but i would not go back to live there at the moment. i would miss the standard of living I have got used to.
If you need a booster as to why the leavers will be Ok then you must find another reason than that the EU itself is breaking up.Its all NEWS and web news items looking for a cheap thrill.
I believe that once free of the EU, after a short time, the country as a whole will benefit from better trade deals worldwide
Unfortunately all the experts on trade deal negotiations are saying that it can take many years to negotiate and conclude a trade deal. Of course, we might be able to negotiate faster but only at the expense of getting a poor deal because we will be desperate and the country we're negotiating with won't be.
the income from taxes etc will be spent on eg NHS, education and other public services and the people living in the UK will benefit directly.
It's looking more as if a) the income from taxes will be diminished as businesses relocate to Europe to take advantage of the single market and unemployment rises b) imports will be more expensive because of tariffs and c) huge sums of money will be going to business's which stay in the UK to compensate for the added expense of exporting to Europe.
As 'Brexit' has already cost the country about 20 year's worth of EU contributions propping up the pound after the Brexit vote and, we will have to continue making payments to the EU if we want to stay in the Single Market I'm completely at a loss to see where all this money for the NHS is going to come from.
Do you know what percentage of annual UK spending the EU contribution actually represented?

For you, Margaret.
galexinda I don't know which country you live in, but hopefully, as we will guarantee EU workers already here with residence and medical aid, your chosen country will do the same.
I think that your DH is right, and that when the dust eventually settles, the UK will do very well.
Cost?
It's cost us dearly over the last couple of decades to be in it.
Initially the EU will try anything to make us pay more.
To get out of it whatever the cost will be a blessing.
Post that, we will thrive. Life again will become more equal. The fat cats will become slimmer is all.
The normal working class person will have a job at a rate of pay that is just and right.
Post that, we will thrive. Life again will become more equal. The fat cats will become slimmer is all.
You mean the fat cats who are already making such a mess of privatised prison services and rail services and who are eyeing up the NHS? How will getting out of the EU stop that?
yes of course, the mines will magically re-open, the non computerised industries will too, be it in textiles or car making, ship yards will go back to make ships with simple tools, and farm workers will go back to be happy living in tied cottages and have a little bit of land to grow a few veggies and have a couple of chickens and a pig. Of course.
Don't be silly. No one's suggesting life will be like the 50s again...get real!
Privatisation needs to stop also, which is another issue entirely.
No I don't like the fact I can't get on a train when I want etc. but do people really know why others are striking. Surely its due to unreasonable demands from above.
I wasn't talking about that issue.
Getting out of the EU will stop mass immigration. Lets face it, there weren't a lot of people coming over taking higher jobs huh.
Mass immigration has caused an almost slave labour mentality being borne in the affluent.
We've gone back nearly half a century due to this and now have to plough our way back up. But guess what Im ready.
All will be well in lala land..we will make a fortune selling jam and buy all our cars, trains, tractors etc from China.,.
Plenty of immigrant doctors, teachers, engineers, other professionals . Not all from EU, surprise surprise. Not all just potato pickers.
