The cost of Brexit for us; the ordinary people

There have been headlines over the weekend, in response to the recent polling, on the lines of "Nobody voted for Brexit in order to become poorer" (though they were good at dsmissing warnings that they would as 'scaremongering') Richard Murphy takes us through 10 reasons why he thinks it is inevitable. If anyone has an authoritative source to counter his points I'd be happy to see it.

All will be better than living in hell.

stillaliveandkicking Tue 20-Dec-16 20:34:30

If you cannot accept a democratic vote and have to keep mythering on and changing what has been done then maybe you need to take a long hard look at yourself and wonder why.

granjura Tue 20-Dec-16 20:35:57

In hell, what hell?

The immigrants people tend to object to are those from outside the EU, who will be able to come in much bigger numbers than before, as the EU, and in particular France- will not be stopping them. Immigrants are coming back to Calais in expectation of FRench asking for border checks to be taken away from Calais ports...

granjura Tue 20-Dec-16 20:37:32

If you can't accept a large % were swayed with pure lies, like the 350m a week for the NHS, and Farage's posters, etc- then you do have to take a long hard look at the reality out there.

The majority in England has democratically voted out.

I have seen with my own eyes what mass immigration has done, more so in the last 10 years to working class (the majority) of our land.

Every other EU country then needs to decide for themselves what to do about immigration. I for one am proud that we finally found our back bone and said no.

Hopefully the EU will fold.

stillaliveandkicking Tue 20-Dec-16 20:45:01

Not lies, as Ive said Ive seen what's been going on with my own eyes.

MaizieD Tue 20-Dec-16 20:57:56

Privatisation needs to stop also, which is another issue entirely.

As the Brexit vote and its aftermath seems to have opened the door to Tories in permanent government I think we'll see hell freeze over first.

I see that they're kicking away another support for the poor today with the abolition of the Child Poverty Unit:

Ana Tue 20-Dec-16 21:01:52

I don't think it's Brexit that's 'opened the door to Tories in permanent government' - more like a lack of decent opposition leadership!

granjura Tue 20-Dec-16 21:06:19

mass immigration of BRitish people in other parts of EU - much more than the other way round btw. How are you going to stop privatisation - when most of our energy suppliers and vital services and transport are privatised already- and sold to the 'enemies' that will be able to control us through them.

What do you mean 'no lies' are you denying the bus and other posters, and interviews, etc, about 350m for the NHS.

stillaliveandkicking Tue 20-Dec-16 21:07:39

Well maybe its going to be "all change" then in a future election. Let's hope so. Unfortunately we don't have many to choose from YET. It will follow.

MaizieD Tue 20-Dec-16 21:21:00

How is it going to be 'all change'?

Sorry, but are we living on the same planet?

granjura Tue 20-Dec-16 21:40:14

So we will have candidates from Ukip, EDL, BNP and Britain First - now you are talking about hell on hell. We could import the KKK and Le Front National- just for good measure.

Maizie- thanks for being on 'my' Planet. x

granjura Tue 20-Dec-16 21:41:01

Signing out - what is the friggin point sad

Ana Tue 20-Dec-16 22:06:35

Temper, temper...hmm

durhamjen Tue 20-Dec-16 22:19:19

At least we don't have National Action any more, granjura, as they have been proscribed.

Jalima Tue 20-Dec-16 23:12:05

We could get rid of the monarchy and invite Trump as President ..... his mother is British
[ducks for cover]

Why can't you live and work for what is and not keep harping on what's past?

MaizieD Wed 21-Dec-16 09:04:34

I'm sure your post felt deeply meaningful when you wrote it Luckylegs9 but I'm baffled. Who's it addressed to and what 'past'?

JessM Wed 21-Dec-16 09:18:35

Cryptic stillaliveandkicking. I think we get your drift. But I'm sure you will welcome more people from the Commonwealth after Brexit takes place. smile Because if the economy does, as Leavers assert, improve, we will need a bigger Labour force. And even if it just totters along, we are not producing enough doctors, nurses and computer programmers. And then there are care assistants...
And what did you think of Nigel Farage and Aaron Banks, yesterday, having a go at Brendan Cox? Seems he's an extremist who is politicising his wife's death and supporting an "unpleasant" organisation called Hope Not Hate?

Lucky for 40+ years the anti EU Group kept on about the EU and wanting to get out of it - those of us who wished to remain in have only been going for 6 months - another thirty nine and a half to go grin.

daphnedill Wed 21-Dec-16 10:19:52

That could be a tad problematic, JessM, because they're all terrorists, doncha know! [very sarcastic smiley]

Some MP came up with a truly brilliant idea a few months ago. He suggested that pensioners pick cabbages and potatoes to earn their pension and make up the labour shortfall. Sorted! wink

Anyway I've had to put up with the constant whining of people who didn't like the EU for the last 40 years. I don't suppose I've got 40 years left, so I'd better make the most of it while I can.

PS. Hope Not Hate is crowdfunding to take Farage to court for accusing them of violent and undemocratic tactics. Farage has now questioned why they need more money. You couldn't make it up! Isn't Farage supposed to be doing his job as an MEP? Ooops, silly me! He never did. The self-styled man of the people just took the salary and expenses.

daphnedill Wed 21-Dec-16 10:20:32

Snap, Welshwife (except I don't think I've got 39 and a half years left).

Welshwife Wed 21-Dec-16 10:28:07

Very unlikely I have Daphne - think it would make me the oldest person who ever lived!! grin

durhamjen Wed 21-Dec-16 10:30:05

It seems I'm as extremist as Brendan Cox, as I'm a memmber of www.hopenothate.org.uk

I have also given them money in the hope that Farage gets taken to court for what he said.

Luckylegs9 Wed 21-Dec-16 10:31:15

I was responding to "Brexit and the cost of it". I wanted out but the remainers keep harping on about how unfair it all is instead of seeing how things go and supporting it, there is always a transitional stage and learning curve in any big changes that happen in life. Eventually it will work out for the best but it will take time. I might not see it but hopefully my grandchildren will.
