First blood to Trump

Trump will be inaugurated in 16 days time. Ford has recognised this new era.

How will his Junta of advisors deal with the political world?

Will Trump continue to govern by twitter?

Will his erratic behaviour stop?

Will he be less muddled in his thinking?

What will happen to NATO and article 5?

Will the world survive his environmental policy - such that it is?

Will America be able to contain him?

The most important thing we should all learn from this is h8w undemocratic the first past the post electoral system is.

Trump got about 3 million fewer votes than Hillary.

We must get rid of FPTP before we have a similar disaster -it is a travesty of democracy

durhamjen, I was answering how and why clinton was wrong. Trump using Twitter is not the same as security for (clinton) sec of state gov transmissions.

durhamjen Fri 20-Jan-17 21:03:13

The turnout for Trump was less than a million on all the reports I've read.
It was 1.8 million for Obama's first inauguration.

Jalima Fri 20-Jan-17 20:58:43

There is much inequality there, that was obvious.

durhamjen Fri 20-Jan-17 20:58:23

Araabra, lots of people think that Trump using twitter is a security risk, including his own security department.
As I said, he is using his own @realdonaldtrump twitter account and not going through POTUS.
The tweets he put on an hour after inauguration were on his own account.
The Chinese have said they don't take notice of twitter; they prefer to go through diplomatic channels. Putin hasn't said, as far as I am aware.

I think all people in his position should not use twitter. They should at least try to be more statesmanlike. They should at least think before they tweet.

Post to Jalima.

suzied - not a stupid question at all.
I dont know. I would need to ask them.

Araabra Fri 20-Jan-17 20:56:31

reagan overspent and America stopped being great.

Ankers Fri 20-Jan-17 20:55:31

Maybe not.
It does come across in some american programmes. Quite a lot of them really.
More of the factual ones. Even if some of the poverty is not directly discussed, you can see it in the background of some of the programmes.

[I also know people who live there or/and who have lived there up to recently]

rosesarered Fri 20-Jan-17 20:55:22

I am not a fan of Donald Trump but I thought all the half jokey references to hoping that somebody takes a shot at him / assassination etc from forum members who usually advocate 'peace and love' was ironic indeed! hmm
He certainly got a massive turnout for the Inauguration ceremony, only time will tell if he can/will do any of the things he promises .

suzied Fri 20-Jan-17 20:54:39

A stupid question - but when did America stop being great?
And how will we know when it's great again?

Jalima Fri 20-Jan-17 20:50:21

A lot of them havent lived the dream for many years. Hence Trump.
I agree, but I haven't seen that much on UK tv about that though, perhaps I have not watched the 'right' programmes.

Jalima Fri 20-Jan-17 20:49:06

Not just 'open doors' - active encouragement with government recruitment drives overseas.
And one could wonder if he could be responsible for the crisis in GP recruitment today?

I will go and walk the dog now.

Ankers Fri 20-Jan-17 20:48:53

We still thought Americans lived 'the dream'.

A lot of them havent lived the dream for many years. Hence Trump.

Araabra Fri 20-Jan-17 20:47:00

No, clinton's email was on her own server not the sanctioned US Gov server, that is what was wrong, she compromised gov security. Twitter through POTUS or his own account has nothing to do with security. Twitter is not a security risk.

"Isn't that why Clinton lost to him, because she was seen to be deceitful by using her own email account?
I know email and twitter are different, but it was using a personal account instead of the government account that she was in trouble for."

Ana Fri 20-Jan-17 20:42:42

Philip Hammond blames TB for Brexit, because of his 'open doors' policy to immigration during his term in office.

Jalima Fri 20-Jan-17 20:33:54

and still does I think

varian Fri 20-Jan-17 20:32:10

Yes Jalima I do include TB - I always thought he exuded insincerity.

Jalima Fri 20-Jan-17 20:27:58

Yes!
One friend persevered with it and passed
We were all very impressed.
He did get a state scholarship to Cambridge though.

Ana Fri 20-Jan-17 20:21:16

Not at school surely, jalima? confused

Jalima Fri 20-Jan-17 20:18:32

I won't understand Putin's

I started to take Russian 'O' level but gave in after 2 weeks.

Ana Fri 20-Jan-17 20:18:04

Oh dear, does everyone have to be on Twitter these days? Tweet Peeps...and their Tweeps...

durhamjen Fri 20-Jan-17 20:17:28

"We will bring back our wealth..."
Does that mean he'll sort out his taxes? Put his tax returns online?

durhamjen Fri 20-Jan-17 20:13:33

That's what she said, Jalima. From a to be includes in between.
Most powerful man in the world - Putin.
Second most powerful man in the world - Trump.

Hope we can see their tweets.

Jalima Fri 20-Jan-17 20:07:18

pretty dishonest, sanctimonious speeches delivered from the steps of no 10 Downing Street, from M Thatcher to T May
Hope you are including those in between MT and TM varian - no-one can lie as convincingly as TB.
