First blood to Trump

Trump will be inaugurated in 16 days time. Ford has recognised this new era.

How will his Junta of advisors deal with the political world?

Will Trump continue to govern by twitter?

Will his erratic behaviour stop?

Will he be less muddled in his thinking?

What will happen to NATO and article 5?

Will the world survive his environmental policy - such that it is?

Will America be able to contain him?

Yes, I think he'll soon get bored with the restrictions of office, he's not really thought it through.

Hard luck, he's stuck with the job unless he resigns!

Ankers Fri 06-Jan-17 06:22:37

I thought NotTooOld was joking. Perhaps she wasnt.

Personally I dont think he will quit the job. I dont think he is a quitter, so the opposite may be true.

I do believe Trump as POTUS has made the world a less safe place. He's part of the notion that complex problems have simple answers and he is indeed a hypocrite. His behaviour towards and comments about women, Mexicans etc are vile. I hope he can be held in check by congress, as other presidents have been. He is thin skinned, can dole out offence but reacts very badly if anyone aims it at him . I see him as an unstable narcissist. I do hope I'm proved wrong.

Anya Fri 06-Jan-17 09:29:08

I'm sticking to my belief that's he's clearly certifiable and it's the end of civilisation as we know it hmm

rosesarered Fri 06-Jan-17 10:10:00

grin

sunseeker Fri 06-Jan-17 10:25:52

Above all else he is a businessman - and is used to delegating. I think he will become just a figurehead with all the real work being done by others. His more extreme views will be tempered by Congress and the Senate.

daphnedill Fri 06-Jan-17 10:33:10

Have you seen the list of some of the people to whom he's chosen to delegate? Eeeek!

I hate to invoke Godwin's Law so early in the day, but some historians maintain that Hitler was a weak leader. It's true that he was lazy and not interested in details. He left all the work to others, who knew what he wanted, despite not issuing many orders himself.

whitewave Fri 06-Jan-17 10:33:15

Only about 10 days to go, before we find out.

It will be interesting though to watch how this nationalist right wing authoritarian approach plays out, and how the American population reacts.

whitewave Fri 06-Jan-17 10:33:55

Mostly Generals, it's like a mini- junta grin

Rhinestone Fri 06-Jan-17 11:32:15

He cannot just rip Obamacare away from everyone. The middle class are the ones who are paying high deductibles so others can have it almost free. The problem is that the republicans never passed the original proposal as Obama suggested which might have caused competition among companies therefore lowering the costs.
My problem is that I feel like my vote didn't count. It only counted towards representation, not my actual vote. And the people who voted for Trump did not find his deplorable behavior of racism , misogyny, hypocrisy, bad enough to not vote for him.

Rhinestone Fri 06-Jan-17 11:48:27

Meant to tell you that we were with some friends yesterday when we were talking about Trump and how he wants to gut healthcare. Our friend cut me off and told me he and his wife don't talk about politics as it angers him. Well that sure shut me up. Honestly, everyone has gone mad

annodomini Fri 06-Jan-17 11:48:53

Heaven help us if Trump resigns or is forced to do so. Mike Pence, his VP-designate, is an evangelical right-winger with a horrendous record as Governor of Indiana - a supporter of the 'Tea Party' movement of which not much has been heard recently.
A fairly full account of his opposition to almost every progressive health measure can be found here.

Lovey Fri 06-Jan-17 15:45:17

Don't talk politics? I can't imagine.

whitewave Fri 06-Jan-17 16:16:51

rhinestone. You just have to keep buggering on. Never stop the debate. Don't let anyone intimidate you either.

Lewlew Fri 06-Jan-17 19:28:38

Did anyone see the clip of Michelle Obama's farewell speech? I was all misty-eyed, too!

Will miss her a lot! sad But they deserve their private lives now.

The Obama family have been a class act and have always behaved with dignity and decorum. I had a very tricky conversation ( which I soon ended to save a family rift) with a USA based family member who was ranting on about Obama being a secret Muslim (so?) and the price of the dresses that Michelle wears ( so?) and basically that they were black. I pointed out that Barrack Obama is actually of mixed race......end of conversation. The family member is an articulate and educated woman and it baffles me how we come from the same stock and think so differently. I appreciate that I havent lived in USA with him as president, but I really do fail to see why her biggest problem with him is his race/colour. I thought that kind of thinking went out in the 1950's.

Jalima Fri 06-Jan-17 20:03:52

I started a thread with a link to her last speech before I saw your post Lewlew

Lewlew Fri 06-Jan-17 20:27:47

That's OK Jalima she can use all the good publicity!

GillT57 I know exactly what you mean and it's heartbreaking... same for Rhinestone and any others.

Rinouchka Fri 06-Jan-17 20:31:59

As some of my US friends have said, there will be a new, strong, kick-ass anti-Trump movement which will plague the Donald throughout his ( short, we hope) presidency.

He leads an unhealthy lifestyle. Shall we hope....?

Ankers Fri 06-Jan-17 21:53:59

I hope he isnt going to be a hypocrite[if he isnt already] or slippery as a eel[if he isnt already].
I dont think we will have long to wait to find out for definite.

If Obama was or is a secret Muslim, that explains some of his decisions or non-decisions. So I would think that that is important personally.

rosesarered Fri 06-Jan-17 21:58:10

Gill you should have said that Obama is just as much white as black.smile what would they say to that?

Ana Fri 06-Jan-17 22:07:49

Ankers, what on earth are you going on about? A 'secret muslim'...

And of course Obama's just as much white as he is black - part of the problem seems to be that there is pressure brought to bear on those of mixed race to embrace and celebrate the 'black' side rather than the 'white' one.

durhamjen Fri 06-Jan-17 23:01:29

I read that Obama has told the democrats not to go along with the repeal. etc., of Obamacare, so that they do not get blamed for the mess.

As for assassination, it's likely to be a Russian umbrella.
Or a heart attack. After all, the man is 70.

Rinouchka Fri 06-Jan-17 23:19:36

Ankers where does the 'secret Muslim* idea come from? confused

Rinouchka Fri 06-Jan-17 23:26:07

Re DT's possible demise, a fitting time would be en flagrant délit .... He wouldn't be the first to go in this manner( albeit the last recorded one was French!).
