Government must have vote on Brexit

Supreme Court has ruled that Parliament must vote on whether the government can start the Brexit process.

This means Theresa May cannot begin talks with the EU until MPs and peers give their backing - although BBC says this is likely to happen in time for the government's 31st March deadline.

Howver, the court ruled the Scottish Parliament and Welsh and Northern Ireland assemblies did not need a say. Not sure why.

David Davis to make a statement to MPs at 12:30.

However wasn't British law, sovereignty largely what a Brexit was about and this is a judgement by the highest court in the land. As Theresa May was originally a remainer, do you think she's been secretly hoping this would happen?

If the cap fits.

whitewave Tue 31-Jan-17 07:51:48

You sound very cross fire not a good start to your day.

Firecracker123 Tue 31-Jan-17 07:54:55

What seeing bullying on Gransnet again not a good start to anyones day.

whitewave Tue 31-Jan-17 08:01:44

How is what I have said bullying? mair called me a hardcore globalist extremist I asked her what that meant. She declined to reply.

So I found out for ,self and posted it for others who were also called * hardcore globalist extremists* by mair to read, to see if as you so quaintly put it - the cap fits.

I found it hilarious. It apparently means that I am either a member of a global dynasty intent on ruling the entire world through brain washing or I am on the receiving end of this brain washing. Now why should finding out what is meant by the name calling bullying?

MaizieD Tue 31-Jan-17 08:15:49

I think that we are 'the brainwashed', ww rather than the manipulators. Perhaps we need some tinfoil hats...

Ankers Tue 31-Jan-17 08:28:58

So are you one who believes in the so called globalist agenda? And who would you identify as a globalist mair

Daphnedill has said before that she wants one world one government.
So she has a globalist agenda?

rosesarered Tue 31-Jan-17 08:35:19

Just listen to yourselves! Or rather go back and read this whole page of taunting that you have just typed, what a bunch of sweet, kind ladies you sound.....not!
You were just 'having fun' eh? Is that what it is called in your world? Shudder.

whitewave Tue 31-Jan-17 08:58:17

No rose I absolutely reject mairs constant taunts. I have quietly requested on a numbers of occasions that she define hardcore globalist extremist but she consistently declined, indeed taunted me at one stage because I didn't understand it.

I undertook therefore to find out for myself, and what I found, if mair really believes it is alarming and sick. But I have chosen instead to treat it with a lighter touch and laugh.

I can if you wish treat it seriously and outline all the page after page of sick theory, I have declined to do so giving mair the opportunity give her understanding of hardcore globalist extremism

So having fun- perhaps Do I prefer my world to someone who believes in the Malthusian economic theory and hardcore globalist - most definitely yes.

rosesarered Tue 31-Jan-17 09:06:14

So live up to your liberal views, be generous and allow another poster to have a different world view to yourself.
You don't like the phrase, then ignore it, hardly the the worst insult is it, and not a personal one.
I am well used to Gransnet and we can all fire off a sarcastic post if annoyed, but this page of taunting is just not right, and is really unpleasant. You either understand that or you don't.

whitewave Tue 31-Jan-17 09:15:29

I think my liberal views hold my up very well, and I am the model of tolerance. On this thread I have been called mentally ill, a bully and pathetic and that's just recently I can list the rest if you wish but my liberality means that any unpleasant taunts are generally ignored.

However - I am not a patsy and occasionally I will strike back- particularly if I feel I am being taken for a fool.

JessM Tue 31-Jan-17 09:38:45

Maybe M means "internationalist". Now that might be more accurate and less condemnatory (and confused).

Ana Tue 31-Jan-17 09:57:56

"Anyone with a curiosity to learn about the world around himself or herself is a globalist. Globalists have an innate curiosity and therefore the ability to keep an open mind. They want to sort out the changes being wrought every day and shape them in a direction that is fair and equitable for all of humankind."

Don't see what's so wrong with that description, even if you add the 'hardcore', which after all only means serious and 'extremist' which presumably means even more serious!

whitewave Tue 31-Jan-17 10:03:34

Oh dear ana do you honestly believe that is what mair meant? I could very happily live with that description if that is how she is describing us all.

But in the absence of any explanation I have only got what my research has lead me.

I can rather boringly give you blow by blow detail of the theory, but I'm sure you don't want me to.

Anniebach Tue 31-Jan-17 10:10:00

whitewave, I haven't read all the posts, you are none of those things

whitewave Tue 31-Jan-17 10:14:09

How kind of you anniesmile

Anniebach Tue 31-Jan-17 10:31:32

Oooooh, I am a globalist and didn't know,

Mair Tue 31-Jan-17 10:31:35

WW
I have never called you a 'hardcore Globalist extremist' however if you feel the cap fits, its your choice if you choose to wear it.

Mair Tue 31-Jan-17 10:37:23

As regards 'taunts' WW I reject your claim that I have sought to 'taunt' you. In fact I have tried to ignore you, because of your tedious taunting, sadly its not that easy.

You may recall I made the polite request that posters referring to the murderer Thomas Mair should refer to him as TMair, so as to avoid confusion with me. That request was ignored by you and your chums. Now THAT is 'taunting'.

whitewave Tue 31-Jan-17 10:43:07

mair who have you called*hardcore globalist extremist* and this is your chance to explain what you mean by this description.

annodomini Tue 31-Jan-17 10:52:46

I have only just read this interesting thread and would like to know a definition of 'global extremist' whether 'hardcore' or not. It sounds like a club I might like to join.

whitewave Tue 31-Jan-17 11:07:00

anno strangely enough you might actually belong without knowing it, the theory argues that the global royal dynasty ruling the world is doing so by a form of brainwashing. It's worth looking up their site if you are prepared for what you read.

annodomini Tue 31-Jan-17 11:40:05

Ah, so it's in my genes. That explains a lot. wink

Mair Tue 31-Jan-17 12:52:21

WW said
the theory argues that the global royal dynasty ruling the world is doing so by a form of brainwashing

That is a theory but not the only, or one to which I subscribe.
Many conspiracy theories abound and sometimes they turn out to have a strong basis in truth. Those of us saying the EU wanted to become a single state used to be laughed at, now we have Guy Verhofstadt the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator has admitted the EU is failing and calling for a United States of Europe with majority voting not unanimity! That was NOT what people voted for in 1976.

One would expect Bremain voters who complain so much about their voice being over ruled would be very unhappy about such an anti democratic development such as that (Nicola Sturgeon espcially should protest).

Anniebach Tue 31-Jan-17 13:12:31

Is David Ike posting here

Anniebach Tue 31-Jan-17 13:13:58

Mair, who on earth is going to think you sre T Mair who is serving a life sentence
