Paul Nuttell is according to the poles is 10% ahead in the Stoke bi-election, so I thought I would look at some of his beliefs. I was astounded at how similar they are to Trumps.

1. Privatisation of the NHS - this has been taken from his website because he needs the votes. Privatisation of the NHS doesn't attract votes.

2. Wants a referendum to vote on restricting woman's rights. He is anti-abortion, and believes that there should be a ban on adverts for family planning and abortion.

3. Burka ban. In all public buildings.

4. Against banning discrimination against gays.

5. So he believes in placing restrictions on Muslim belief/culture, but is against any restriction to Christian beliefs.

6. Thinks sexist comment are OK, and against placing restrictions on these type of comments.

No wonder he was so thrilled when Trump won the election.

Hmm...well certainly fewer posters have become almost apoplectic with anger! I was seriously worried for their health at one point!

daphnedill Mon 13-Feb-17 12:58:09

grin Jalima. Shouldn't that be down there? Nuttall comes from Bootle, which last time I looked at a map is north of Stoke.

daphnedill Mon 13-Feb-17 12:56:29

Nobody can ever assume that the person behind a username is who he/she says they are.

Many moons ago, I moderated a chatroom and it wasn't unknown for people to share a username. The reason they did it was to hide identifiable posting styles. There was one case where a little bunch of particularly spiteful posters shared a few usernames, so it became quite difficult to ban them all. They even had a stock of dormant usernames to be used when bans were enforced.

Jalima Mon 13-Feb-17 12:55:44

I'm just a bit bemused that he seems to have adopted this style specifically for Stoke and I've been wondering why.
All huntin' shootin' fishin' types up there dontcha know
when we're not throwing pots

I shouldn't worry though I bet she/he returns under another name. I wonder what she'll choose this time?

whitewave Mon 13-Feb-17 12:54:04

I still don't think anyone on this forum would have chosen that username.

whitewave Mon 13-Feb-17 12:52:44

Gosh I'm not sad she's gone. I worried about the underlying tone of her arguments which were undoubtedly xenophobic in tone. Since she's been gone it is much more civilised.

Jalima Mon 13-Feb-17 12:50:43

No mention of children or grandchildren though, sometimes made me wonder if he/she was parachuted in by UKIP to promote the cause.
grin didn't do a great job then!!

I thought it was established that Mair was a woman (Mair being Welsh for Mary unless she - or he - liked that assumption).

Jalima Mon 13-Feb-17 12:47:27

It ( the forum) should be a place for all sorts of views, even ones that are very different from our own, and Mair tried to be polite when answering jibes, but was bound at times to attack back.I found the whole thing depressing, that a poster can be treated this way for having different political views

Well, she could be very rude (and she was to me) but she did come in for some awful flak when she first joined about her name, which was enough to put anyone on the defensive.
I am rather sorry she's gone because she was outrageous but livened things up no end.

(and no, I would never support UKIP in a month of Sundays!)

daphnedill Mon 13-Feb-17 12:44:33

But Nuttall hasn't always dressed like that, nor did he used to have a beard. I'm just a bit bemused that he seems to have adopted this style specifically for Stoke and I've been wondering why.

PS. I must have been watching too much Agatha Christie on TV. hmm

MawBroon Mon 13-Feb-17 12:38:00

Not as in Kama I'm afraid blush but Soutra Hill in Scotland, south of Edinburgh. grin

Jalima Mon 13-Feb-17 12:35:10

While we are on the subject why do UKIP candidates dress like country squires on a grouse shoot?
confused not sure that they do, mostly they seem to wear lounge suits, shirts and ties and look quite smart (the men). Nuttall seems to have a quirky way of dressing, perhaps it's the cold weather oop north.
Here's a country squire and here's another UKIP candidate:

I would criticise their policies but not the way they dress.

Have asked GNHQ to remove my last post as I may have revealed too much information without thinking - sorry!

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Jalima Mon 13-Feb-17 12:17:51

But I am a Ma wink

MawBroon Mon 13-Feb-17 12:15:04

Oops missed out a *

MawBroon Mon 13-Feb-17 12:14:36

No secret Ana(**m)
As I have explained before now. And none of them were my real name either.....or were they ? wink

Riverwalk Mon 13-Feb-17 12:11:46

Afraid I'm not Mrs Walk - that's just a little deception on my part.

River seems to be a male name and if someone addressed me as he on GN I'd nip in and put them straight.

Ana Mon 13-Feb-17 12:02:36

What about previous ones? grin

MawBroon Mon 13-Feb-17 11:56:26

Oh no!! But your surname is Walk?
While we are in confessional mode, I have to own up. My name isn't Maw either sad

Riverwalk Mon 13-Feb-17 11:50:46

I didn't see the post where she said she was a woman.

However I do remember the post asking her about the choice of Mair as a username .... the reply said it was a Welsh name, not that it was her name.

My real name isn't River.

whitewave Mon 13-Feb-17 11:48:05

Not sure I would have chosen that user name though.

MawBroon Mon 13-Feb-17 11:44:03

True, but doesn't mean her name WAS Mary.
#idlespeculationneedtogoanddosomethinguseful

Ana Mon 13-Feb-17 11:41:49

She did say she was a woman at least once, when someone asked whether her username was taken from the surname of the murderer of Jo Cox.

Mair is the Welsh form of Mary.

Riverwalk Mon 13-Feb-17 11:35:54

Apologies from me too if that's the case.

The bombastic style of writing is so typical of a number of men from both left and right, who've posted on political threads .... and in all my days I've never heard a woman refer to 'paedos'. That seemed very male to me!

I never saw her correct posters who said he/she - most women would just say 'I'm a woman, not a man', as did a lady lorry driver recently.
