Ana Why is it strange? Petra has just posted something which Snell's opponents are using as ammunition all over Facebook and Twitter. Anyway, I've read petra's posts in the past, so it wouldn't surprise me. I was hoping for some enlightenment.

Interesting to know your politics are left of mine, as you're a Labour supporter. If anybody calls me a leftie again, I might point that out.

I have to say that I could never vote for UKIP for any reason (except, perhaps, a gun to the head). If I lived in Thanet, I might even have voted Conservative in a tactical vote to keep Farage out, but UKIP - NO!

Indeed! I still work full-time (well, that's how it seems), but I work for myself and am stuck on a computer for much of the day working. I get bored doing the things which earn me money, so I go off on Google searches or reading all sorts of things. I even do FutureLearn courses. I rarely watch TV, so it fills the time, apart from all the other things I do. I write teaching materials while I'm on GN. Your point is?

I do whatever I can to earn money, provided it's legal and moral.

Perhaps it's more what Labour has failed to do and how out of touch they are with the people of Stoke-on-Trent that is more to the point, rather than what UKIP can do.

Perhaps the point is that they want change - any change but not the Tories.

That is not saying that UKIP will win as Labour may still retain Stoke, it will all depend on the candidate and on the campaigning there.

I was just trying to answer daphnedill's question but not being a UKIP voter I don't really know. And having not visited Stoke for quite some time I don't know what it is like there now only what I have heard.

There is unemployment but it is not excessively high as has been suggested, although marginally higher than the UK average. There have been a lot of initiatives to regenerate the area which have just started and are ongoing.

So it could be anyone's seat - depending on the campaigning.

A local candidate (the Labour man) could do well if he is popular and has done much for the area.

Paul Nuttall and Nigel Farage having a bad week. The EU parliament think they have been using EU money (like the money MPs get for paying some staff and renting an office) to pay people to work for UKIP political campaigns. Looks like they will be fined.

MPs and MEPs are supposed to be very careful and strict about this and they usually are. (e.g. the local party members can't wander into their MPs office and do photocopying of a council campaign.)
Also, apparently, Nigel Farage was refused a visa to go to work in the States on Fox News.

Not a good week for Farage, nor his stable mate Le Pen.
