Melania and equality

Certain pictures and 'stories' about Donald and Melania Trump are appearing repeatedly on Twitter. It's interesting to compare interpretations.

This one, where Donald gets out of the limo and goes up the steps to meet the Obamas while Melania gets out of the far side of the vehicle and walks up by herself has provoked a lot of discussion reaction.

The most common interpretation is that Donald is a boor/ungentlemanly for not waiting for Melania and walking up the steps with her. I suspect this is based on the premise that he's a boor anyway and, besides, people hate him.

Another interpretation is that he is more of a gender egalitarian than we think because he was behaving just as he would have done if Melania were a man.

The latter interpretation made me wonder if Theresa May 'waits for' Philip May in similar circumstances or whether he just 'follows' in due course?

FFS stop picking over people you don't know, the woman's clothes, smiles, prayers, leave them alone. I have seen the Queen looking pretty bored and cheesed off at times and she has decades of experience to fall back on........

It is hard enough in marriages and family relationships to know what is going on. What business is it of ours what their relationship is?

They must have had huge security concerns to worry about..........

President Trump speaks the language of the working classes, the forgotten people, the old men who remember when labour had jobs...we are on the cusp of something new in the world and there is an expected clash of cultures, none of which is made better by people thinking that they know, what someone else is thinking.

The Clintons are a pair of stinkers, Obama bombed and droned people how family friendly do we think he is? His perfect family set up do we know that is real ? We don't.

What I believe is real, is that he was prepared to bully us prior to the referendum by saying, he would see to it that we were at 'the back of the queue' if we voted to leave. He was happy to interfere in our democracy when it suited him.

I don't know how Trump will pan out as a president, but plenty of other people whose business it is, think a change is needed and they made it.

If we continually rubbish everyone and pick over clothes and smiles and prayer faces, we are operating at the lowest level of intelligence possible and the fate of the world is worth a lot more than that.

As for Trump being a misogynist who says he is ? Madonna who has been flaunting her own tired pussy for money for as long as I care to remember............grrrrrrr what a start to the day this thread is.

Good post Radicalnan it's certainly getting out of hand, especially Melania sniping.

gillybob Fri 27-Jan-17 10:28:12

I couldn't agree with you more radicalnan .

.....and having read (I was bored) some of his recent speeches I have noticed that the media (as per usual) are picking pieces out and joining them to other pieces, changing the entire context of the original speech.

gillybob Fri 27-Jan-17 10:30:00

And Theresa May has almost copied one of his speeches when she says she wants the UK to stay out of other countries battles and concentrate on looking after our own borders. hmm

sunseeker Fri 27-Jan-17 10:45:13

I may be wrong but I thought she said she wanted to put an end to UK getting militarily involved to "remake sovereign countries in our own image".

Teddy123 Fri 27-Jan-17 10:53:28

"Who cares".
She looks happy enough to me!

trisher Fri 27-Jan-17 10:57:53

For those who think he has only said one thing about women, check this site
www.telegraph.co.uk/women/politics/donald-trump-sexism-tracker-every-offensive-comment-in-one-place/
And this one's a doozy
"Why do people think it’s egotistical of you to say you could’ve gotten with Lady Di?” Stern asked him. “You could’ve gotten her, right? You could’ve nailed her.”

“I think I could have,” Trump said"
Not a misogynist then?

MaizieD Fri 27-Jan-17 11:03:09

I just hope that none of you who are objecting to comments about Melania Trump read the Daily Mail.

thatbags Fri 27-Jan-17 11:03:35

I am glad you spoke up, radical. And well said. There is always more than one interpretation of events. It's good to hear them all. Too often nowadays people are afraid to say what they really think because they are subjected to name-calling, disapproval and a 'ganging up' mentality from people who disagree.

It has been said repeatedly that the Brexit vote and the election of Trump happened because people felt their reasonable concerns were simply not being listened to. Some people are still not listening. Theresa May is one of those who is. Trump? I dunno, but the Democrats certainly weren't.

rosesarered Fri 27-Jan-17 11:05:56

..and well said you thatbags I think many of us would agree with your post!

thatbags Fri 27-Jan-17 11:06:09

That's what I read too, sunseeker.

thatbags Fri 27-Jan-17 11:09:00

Thanks, roses. The thing is, I feel I'm quite outspoken on GN and I feel repressed by the forum disapprovers, so Gold help anyone who is not naturally forthright. I think they are simply silenced out a lot of the time.

thatbags Fri 27-Jan-17 11:09:25

Gold?

God

thatbags Fri 27-Jan-17 11:16:01

Golden God'll do, as in Ra.

Gaggi3 Fri 27-Jan-17 11:28:53

A lot of people thought Hitler was o.k. once.

sunseeker Fri 27-Jan-17 11:33:10

Who are you comparing to Hitler, Melania, Donald, Theresa or God?

whitewave Fri 27-Jan-17 11:34:14

Anyone who preaches the politics of division would be a good start.

Ana Fri 27-Jan-17 11:41:38

You think anyone who preaches the politics of division can be compared to Hitler? Really?

marionk Fri 27-Jan-17 12:08:54

When it comes to choosing to marry the guy I think that maybe the multimillionaire tag may have helped!!

suzied Fri 27-Jan-17 12:16:14

I don't think the glamorous model would have have married an unattractive old guy if he was a twice married bin man with no dosh. And the multi billionaire wouldn't marry a woman his own age or who wasn't sexy and glamorous.

sunseeker Fri 27-Jan-17 12:17:15

Once again people making assumptions about the marriage of people they don't know

SueDoku Fri 27-Jan-17 12:29:02

Thank you Radicalnan. A bit of rationality. I did think that we in more mature years and with a bit of life experience would stay cool on this. Wrong! I'm very aware of the danger of the media and how it manipulates us by giving bare bone stories when it suits them. Showing the worst possible photograph (and their store is limitless) of whichever 'celebrity' they are currently discrediting. Giving out private information about 'celebrities' which we have neither need nor right to know. Why do we get so het up about all this stuff? Have we not a personal place of our own to revel In? Me? I'm on the bus on my way to lunch with a lovely friend indulging myself in this joy of retirement. Hope some of you are having fun too.

daphnedill Fri 27-Jan-17 12:46:23

Wow! angry

I hadn't realised he'd already done that much.

Yorkshiregel Fri 27-Jan-17 13:03:36

Why should the wife of any President be expected to make speeches or know anything about running a country? This girl was a model. She looks good in clothes and is very beautiful imo. What they do in their private lives is no one else' business. After the cringing moment when she was made to read out Mrs Obama's speech and give the impression that it was her own I do not blame her for looking daggers at Trump when asked to do it again. They do not live together but that is because their young son has not finished High School yet, not because there is a rift. I feel sorry for her myself being plunged in to the spotlight without any training for the job. Their young son could hardly keep his eyes open because he had been up since 3am. Any 10 year old would have been the same.

Personally I think Trump has all the right intentions ie putting USA first, but he cannot express himself in a Statesman way. I like him, and I think he should be given a chance to see what he can do. Maybe someone should give him a bit of training to improve what he cannot do...make speeches for example. Our own King George was not too proud to accept help and Trump shouldn't be either.
