As I've said, HM is more than experienced in dealing with unpleasant visuitors to Buckingham Palace and I see no reason why she won't cope adequately with Trump. Whether she invites him in the first place, afraid I would have no more information on that than any one else on here.! But is this not straying from the matter in hand? Why all this frothing about whether he gets to meet the Queen or not? Far more concerning matters to be addressed, I would have thought?

There are over 65million people in the UK so petition even if it reaches 1million is hardly representing the will of the people.

Because he will consider it a seal of approval, that he is important enough to meet HM, not understanding that it is a privilege extended to many Heads of State. It will feed his, already inflated, ego.

Most of these petitions struggle to reach the 100,000 needed for the subject to be considered for a parliamentary debate. That this one has almost reached 1,000,000 in 2 days is a good indication of the strength of feeling among 'the people'.

Petition, even if only representing 1/65th of the British population, will still bruise Trump's ego considerably, unless he chooses to deny it as fake news and interprets it "alternatively". So, this petition will have some effect.

Interesting interview earlier on Radio 4 with spokesman for Trump. They stand firm, despite some adjustments, on the efficacity of Friday's executive order.

Surely Trump and his advisors are out of order stating who they will meet and who they won't. I would be very indignant if I invited someone to my house and they said they wouldn't meet one of my family! That is just plain rude and arrogant! He wants to meet William and Harry but not their father!

Absolutely agree with you WW but my point is that the man seems to have no boundaries of behaviour at all! His inflated ego just appalls me. He needs to have it pointed out that a State visit has protocols. He doesn't make the call about what happens and who he meets or doesn't.

The invitation has been given far too early in what was bound to be a controversial presidency. There was no need to be so hasty. This man is a self-confessed habitual 'groper' which, in this country, might be enough to have him put on the sex offenders' register, though I haven't asked for expert opinion on that - yet.

Official responses from governments/countries to other tyrannical leaders is very important. If a warm /important status is given to them then they use this as a sign that the host country condones their politics.
Trump has come to power and is blazing away with repressive policies that do not reflect the constitution he is supposed to be representing or, I hope, the nebulous 'British Values'!

He needs to discuss / meet politicians etc etc. but he does not need to be given any 'honour' that he does not deserve. Leave a state visit for when he has done some good!

May has really cocked this one up. It seemed to start OK with her speech in Philadelphia, pity she couldn't have flown to Turkey after that. But she then met the idiot, who then proceeded to make a fool of May, first by handling her (yuk) then by making her look silly over NATO, then by dishing our supposed shared values as soon as her plane took off.

She needs to back peddle smartish and think about exactly where she is going and doing as a result of Brexit.
