The Trump presidency

The last Trump thread has run out of space. I suspect we need a new one. As he steams through his first week issuing royal edicts on a range of things and asserting that he will build a wall, how will politicians in Washington react to his fascist agenda along with his apparently immature and decidedly dodgy personality?

I wonder if any of those protesters are feeling a sense of misplaced indignation considering that there are leaders of mainly Muslim countries who agree with Trumps EO on security. I note these are generally Sunni Muslim countries and it appears that some of the countries on the suspension list are majority Shiite.

I have also noted Arab twitterers asking why when Muslims supposedly hate everything American do they want to go there. Maybe they have a more sensible perspective than we do.

Penstemmon Wed 01-Feb-17 17:26:08

I have Arab relatives living in US. They are very worried at the moment. Scared their neighbours may take against them, shout abuse at their children in the street etc. It is very sad and very worrying.

Sorry, usage (hold our hand out, you naughty girl).
I am getting "pig sick" of talking about the Donald. He is here for four years and we have to deal with him. He is entitled to run his Country as he likes. All the marches; all the petitions will only strengthen his resolve. And never forget; what America does to-day, the world does tomorrow. It has the biggest cultural influence on the Planet.

beam Err can I suggest you avoid the thread.

trumpdonald.org/

I wonder if this will work. Gave me a grin anyway.

Elegran Wed 01-Feb-17 18:01:32

Me too. I posted a link to it somewhere on the forum, but everyone was too busy to spare time for a brief bit of fun.

rosesarered Wed 01-Feb-17 18:07:37

Elegran I did look but it wouldn't work ( for me) just a black page. Will try again.

Elegran Wed 01-Feb-17 18:12:36

Maybe Maw's will work.

Elegran Wed 01-Feb-17 18:13:22

rose The black page then gets text on it, followed by the rest of the page.

MawBroon Wed 01-Feb-17 18:17:25

I think I must have got it from you first! Oops, but thank you!

Elegran Wed 01-Feb-17 18:21:17

The trump counter is weird. If you are on there and trump a dozen times, then leave and go back later, the number is not what it was when you left but when you arrived. Maybe it is counting visitors, not trumps.

Eloethan Wed 01-Feb-17 19:00:10

Ana rosesarered said "No Eloethan I do not know very well and as it is a while since ,perhaps you have a great memory.....who are they then?"

I responded to rose's post and answered her question.

As I've said before, sarcasm and sneering can be found in some posters on the political left and on the political right.

Four states suing Trump over the travel ban already. I expect others will join in.

rosesarered Wed 01-Feb-17 19:27:47

Hopefully Eloethan we have moved on from there.

Eloethan Wed 01-Feb-17 19:32:53

It wasn't me that made the comment, but Ana. Again, I simply responded.

Ana Wed 01-Feb-17 19:49:30

Still not many GN members who dared to admit to voting Tory though, is it, compared to the number of Labour supporters who post on the political threas?

Which was the point of my post.

nigglynellie Wed 01-Feb-17 19:58:07

At least the Americans weren't rude to her unlike the odious Europeans. I admired Mrs T. The only leader with any bottle since Winston C.

Rigby46 Wed 01-Feb-17 20:03:38

Beam a thread entitled The Trump Presidency discussing er Trump - whatever next?

Rigby46 Wed 01-Feb-17 20:09:36

I find the idea that apparently grown up women are terrified of posting on GN because of the nasty vile 'lefties' absolutely jaw dropping. TBH I think some of the nastiest, sneering comments come from this 'frightened' group. This is an online forum with some political threads - it's not a knitting circle fgs. If you can't stand the cut and thrust of the debate, then go and look at photos of fluffy kittens or go to soop's kitchen.

Beammeupscottie Wed 01-Feb-17 20:35:24

Yes - I used to work for the Ministry of the Bleeding Obvious. I am clearing off for a week in the sun -you are well rid of me.

rosesarered Wed 01-Feb-17 20:42:25

I think that we will get on just fine on here if some don't like it (unless the insults are flying, )
There will still be debate and often a bit heated am sure, but hopefully will be a lot better all round.

MawBroon Wed 01-Feb-17 20:48:39

@rigby46
, then go and look at photos of fluffy kittens or go to soop's kitchen

But only if you bake a mean flapjack. ???.

I think that unfortunately some GN members mistake the ja-boo behaviour of the 'debate' in Parliament - which owes a lot to the heritage of Boys' Public School - for the way in which adults discuss contentious issues, however strongly held. I have read some posts with amazement at times. No, rigby46, it's not 'cut and thrust', they can be unpleasant and childish, and quite demeaning. How insulting to suggest that those of us who are just as concerned as you about political affairs should go and look at pictures of fluffy kittens rather try and have a serious discussion!
