This article in the Independent certainly gives food for thought, and puts things into perspective. It may explain a lot.

Just to add that although this is the authors story he actually fits your middle class (or rather more) profile:

A graduate of the Ohio State University and Yale Law School, he has contributed to the National Review and is a principal at a leading Silicon Valley investment firm. Vance lives in San Francisco with his wife and two dogs.

and I think you will find there are women in the book too.

Your comment However the US for all its flaws is probably still the freest and most democratic country in the world. is what caused me to suggest it Mair. You might find these crits interesting.

Re: "Hillbilly Elegy" by J D Vance,

Thanks for that GG but I was interested in the politics of those who would assasinate him, not those who voted for him.

I think you're very mistaken if you think his votes were drawn only from the disadvantaged European Americans however. I understand he had a large middle class and female vote.

Can I recommend a book Mair - "Hillbilly Elegy" by J D Vance, which has been said by many to explain why America voted Trump. I think you will find the so called American Dream is just that for most in America and the riches of those who attain it is built on the poverty of the many.

I cant see any country taking the USA on. Not in any real sense.
Need them too much for trade, and afraid of war with them.

More likely in my opinion that it will be americans themselves who actually take on Trump.

Some interesting stuff on here...

One of his latest orders is to repeal the law which prevents people with serious mental disorders getting hold of guns. Is Trump suffering from a serious mental disorder? Good question.

Ginny42 Thu 02-Feb-17 21:14:05

Exec powers must be legal, but from what I've read, his exec decisions have so far come just short of being orders. This looks set to change according to the Washington Post, which describes his plans to unravel the Obama legacy.

In view of the discussion above, here's an interesting section

'in addition to endorsing the two rule disapprovals by the House on Wednesday, the White House endorsed overturning rules allowing the Social Security Administration to provide certain records on people with a history of mental problems for inclusion in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.'

Full article:

www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2017/02/01/congress-and-trump-have-begun-reversing-multiple-obama-era-rules-on-the-environment-and-more/

Particuarly alarming is the section on removing Obama regs that mining companies should restore the land they use to the condition it was in before mining began when they wrap up operations.
He's going to scrap the rule and local streams, lakes and therefore drinking water may be polluted. Seems he's lining the pockets of his business friends at the expense of the health of citizens.

Ankers Thu 02-Feb-17 20:50:32

He has signed 18 in 11 days.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_federal_executive_orders

Rough maths seems to be that Obama and Bush[roughly 280 over 8 years] did about 35 a year.
Bit different to 600!

Though
www.bustle.com/p/how-many-executive-orders-do-presidents-issue-donald-trump-is-actually-not-outpacing-obama-32806
But no idea if it is a biased article. Could be?

And Trump may only do another 18 for the whole year!! hmm

Powerful and extraordinary tools should be used very occasionally - like miracles they should not be overused and become commonplace normality.

varian Thu 02-Feb-17 20:18:24

Is it not extraordinary that the president of the USA should prioritise an attack on Arnie Swartzenegger ( a fellow Republican with real political experience) because the ratings gor his TV show are down?

absent Thu 02-Feb-17 19:52:50

Executive orders may be powerful tools but surely cannot have the force of law if they are contrary to the Constitution. I am not implying that any recent orders are unconstitutional, although they may be; I am just asking.

Ginny42 Thu 02-Feb-17 19:46:08

MB that link to the Independent is indeed scary. I think we are right to fear where he may end up or where the world may end up if he's not reigned in soon.

Ginny42 Thu 02-Feb-17 19:34:42

Thanks for the link Anno. What an amateurish performance. It made me dizzy trying to follow his trend of thought. I love the blatant diversion from a tribute to African Americans, to attacking one news network while sucking up to another.

How about...^their story is one of unimaginable sacrifice, hard work, and faith in America.^ He makes it sound as though they willingly left their homelands and worked till they dropped on the plantations, out of a sense of duty to their slave masters and faith in the mighty USA.

Wonder which one his KKK friends told him that?

I knew it was harming my brain, but I kept reading to the end!

whitewave Thu 02-Feb-17 19:06:47

Is that anno thing nellie?

Nelliemoser Thu 02-Feb-17 18:57:47

Oh shit! That is the worst clip I have heard. Someone section the man.
He can't even string together a coherent sentence it's all about Donald.

whitewave Thu 02-Feb-17 18:53:47

OK I'll give it a go tomorrow and give everone who you have rather quaintly called a globalist extremist what the theory says about them.

I will assume that your silence in disputing the theory means consent.

Mair Thu 02-Feb-17 18:51:05

I couldnt care less if you wish to try WW, but I am confident you will not do so, and equally confident you will be convinced you have!grin

I am far more interested in the discussion of who posters think would wish to murder the POTUS

whitewave Thu 02-Feb-17 18:47:22

Would you like me establish it mair ? I have it all to hand, it would be no problem

Mair Thu 02-Feb-17 18:47:08

Who but in the US elite but globalist extremists does Rigby think would assassinate the president I wonder WW?

Suggestions?

Mair Thu 02-Feb-17 18:44:56

No you never established that WW. In the spirit of good manners shall we agree to disagree on that point?

whitewave Thu 02-Feb-17 18:39:20

That old chestnut again mair I thought we'd established that the theory of globalist extremists was the theory of mad men?

Jalima Thu 02-Feb-17 18:37:00

You reckon?

Mair Thu 02-Feb-17 18:36:12

The constitution of the USA seems to be stuck in a time warp, set in stone with the Head of State having executive powers, unlike our own symbolic Head of State who rarely expresses an opinion on politics

However the US for all its flaws is probably still the freest and most democratic country in the world.

Mair Thu 02-Feb-17 18:34:03

Rigby46
*Mair if it suits their purpose, yes8

I believe he is in grave danger of this, but I am somewhat surprised to see a poster who I get the impression is generally on the side of the global ruling elite admit they would assasinate a democratically elected Western leader.
