Apologies if there is a new Trump thread, but the only one I could find had hit the magic 1000 posts mark.
Just seen this on Facebook. Makes excellent sense.

He didn't shake Merkel's hand either, even when asked if he was going to. How boorish. The leader of the Western world is a child.

durhamjen Fri 17-Mar-17 23:46:48

Is this just a smokescreen to hide his tax problems?

Jalima Fri 17-Mar-17 19:53:35

Also, I loved the responses from GCHQ, what a laugh.
Yes, so calm, so reasoned and so very British!

Jalima Fri 17-Mar-17 19:50:43

I think that Trump has had his own way, done exactly what he wants for very many years, enjoyed being the Apprentice Hirer, the Big Businessman in his Tower and thought that being in the White House would be very similar - throwing out orders, having minions scurrying at his beck and call and having no-one to stop him (sometimes disastrously) striding decisively to his perceived goals.

Unfortunately for him, and fortunately for the rest of the world, the focus is now on his every move and utterance and the checks and balances should start to take effect.

Ginny42 Fri 17-Mar-17 19:47:26

I was wondering when he would be reigned in. It seems the moment has arrived.

Of course you're excused Beammeupscottie, point taken with another smile. I suspect you are absolutely right about the Trumpster, he thought he'd be running the world once in the White House, instead of which, possibly for the first time in his life people who also have power occasionally say "no Donald, you can't do that". I've just seen a clip on line of the Donald sitting alongside Angela Merkel, looking forward to Channel 4 news. Donald looks even more irritated and uncomfortable than Angela.
Also, I loved the responses from GCHQ, what a laugh.

Beammeupscottie Fri 17-Mar-17 14:52:08

Also,I thought GSHQ did a lot of listening - such is their job.
They probably did hear stuff and pass it one, but is that spying?

Beammeupscottie Fri 17-Mar-17 14:47:59

Talking of Trump. Have you noticed how tired he looks? I bet he thought the job would be "West Wing" and it is turning out to be the nightmare of "Veep". I bet it was more fun to be a millionaire businessman than POTUS. Especially if you cannot get your own way.

Beammeupscottie Fri 17-Mar-17 14:43:44

You must excuse me; it is just that I love black comedy and feel more at home with Political satire as tv drama.

Iam64 Fri 17-Mar-17 14:04:23

No it's drama ??

MawBroon Fri 17-Mar-17 13:46:03

Oh beammeupscottie so are those (fantasy) but you and I know fact can be infinitely stranger than fiction and if Trump's bonkers facts are reality, give me fantasy any day.

Beammeupscottie Fri 17-Mar-17 13:25:27

the West Wing is fantasy. Much better to watch "Yes Minister" or "The Thick of it" or "Veep".

Iam64 Fri 17-Mar-17 12:18:42

Good plan MawBroon, it's so entertaining and life affirming. The Bartlett team face ethical dilemma's with good heart, they argue about least worse options, just like proper people. Maybe we all need a dose of the West Wing to help us hang on to our humanity and moral compass smile

MawBroon Fri 17-Mar-17 12:16:29

I feel the urge to watch my way through my West Wing box set. Feel the need to experience sanity, probity, humour and CJ and Jed Bartlett's wonderful way with words.
Call me when the world is back on a sane axis!

Iam64 Fri 17-Mar-17 12:13:15

Ankers, you seems to struggle to accept that Trump and his supporters may in fact tell lies, rather than different facts.

The White House always has a press secretary. My all time favourite was CJ, press secretary to Jed Bartlett. Ok, that was a tv drama, the West Wing, but I do wish we had Jed Bartlett in the White House, a POTUS with some integrity would be so much better for America and the rest of the world.

GCHQ has been absolutely clear, nope it didn't spy on Trump on behalf of Obama. Microwaves, spies and eyes in the sky, GCHQ spying on Trump - it's all totally crackers. Mind you, Trump and co still have uttered not one word that suggests the allegations the Russians influenced the US election so Trump would win.

MawBroon Fri 17-Mar-17 12:12:01

gringrin

varian Fri 17-Mar-17 11:31:43

If Trump heard on Fox News that GNHQ had tapped Trump Tower, Sean Spicer would have reported that to the press conference without a minute's hesitation!

Ginny42 Fri 17-Mar-17 08:04:23

MawBroon grin grin Like the idea of the Donald dressed as Punch and TM as Judy at an end of the pier show!

MawBroon Fri 17-Mar-17 07:57:02

Need to go to Specsavers ww - at first glance I thought you said GNHQ gringrin

whitewave Fri 17-Mar-17 07:50:00

See GCHQ have been hauled in to support the line tapping insinuation. They've called it "utterly ridiculous"

An out of season pantomime for our delectation!!

MawBroon Fri 17-Mar-17 07:47:35

I dont understand why they do those briefings at all. Would save themselves a whole lot of hassle. They are a stupid idea. In my opinion!

confused
I think the concept of White House press briefings is an easy enough one to grasp. It is to inform the media (White House press corps) about what POTUS is doing.
It may be degenerating into the end of the pier show under Trump - but why should that - or indeed anything - surprise us?

durhamjen Thu 16-Mar-17 23:57:42

Only one of us can be telling facts.

Is the red planet really red?

durhamjen Thu 16-Mar-17 23:56:01

Now I know that's not a fact. Mine looks like Gouda, with lots of holes running through it, made by mice.

Jalima Thu 16-Mar-17 23:51:38

Yes, and apparently the Dutch found that it is made of cheese, just like the moon (only it's red, of course).
Night night moon
