Apologies if there is a new Trump thread, but the only one I could find had hit the magic 1000 posts mark.
Just seen this on Facebook. Makes excellent sense.

durhamjen Sun 05-Mar-17 13:56:42

Good heavens!

Yes, dj, sorry the link I gave seems to not work.
More can be found on Dan Rather's Fb page. He is not without controversy as a journalist, but he is one of the most experiencedliving journalists in the US, formed in the Edward R Murrow school of reporting.
Here, I think he is speaking sense, imo.

durhamjen Sun 05-Mar-17 13:58:02

Republicans asking for his tax returns to be made public.

Rinouchka Sun 05-Mar-17 14:25:14

More enraged tweets undoubtedly will follow from DT.

Lewlew Sun 05-Mar-17 14:48:11

Republicans must be in despair... Trump is throwing away any standing or respect for the presidency and in the end, when he is gone (not re-electable in 2020 because of the mess that will be created) they will be an un-electable party as well. They are so handicapped right now putting out his fires that they have little time to look for a new recruit that could be successful.

If Ronald Reagan could play the role, it's really mind-boggling that Trump can't at least walk the walk... (forget the talk, he can't put a sentence together).

Democrats need to get busy... really busy!

NfkDumpling Sun 05-Mar-17 14:56:30

Just catching up on this thread. Can I just jump back a couple of pages to DJ's link about stepping in and say that there's more to it than just the four examples of what to say. Stuff like taking a few moments to assess the situation, never step between two angry people and always make sure you have your back to an exit or way out. If it's a verbal bullying assault sometimes it's enough to just stand quietly beside or near the victim, if possible with others. But never, ever put yourself in a vulnerable position. DJ was intervening from a position of authority and she knew one of the boys which gave her a distinct advantage and knowledge of how to handle the situation, (I bet the What If's really kicked in afterwards!), but to go in blind not knowing what the aggressor is carrying or his/her strength? It's no wonder people just stand by.

whitewave Sun 05-Mar-17 14:56:40

Someone suggested that DT is not a Republican.

If he lasts that long they think one of the real sticking points will be when he goes to the house to request the money for his projects. Interestingly some of which are the same as Obama wanted but the Republicans would never release the money.

NfkDumpling Sun 05-Mar-17 15:02:32

Love that Mr T may at last have to release his tax returns. I bet he'll make sure there's so many different reports and so many different figures no one will know which is the genuine one. So much false news hiding the real!

Rinouchka Sun 05-Mar-17 16:50:28

Love this spoof image!

whitewave Sun 05-Mar-17 16:56:56

Trumpty is certainly twittering like mad - methinks he doth protest.......

durhamjen Sun 05-Mar-17 17:33:33

Excellent, Rinouchka.
I like trump's first 100 days, whichever paper they are from. They are all doing it. I also watch the BBC one, too, just to have a good laugh.

Whitewave, 508 tweets; no metres of wall built.

durhamjen Sun 05-Mar-17 19:31:28

Can you imagine how many books are going to be written about trump when he gets kicked out of office?
He won't be able to write his memoirs, like the Obamas, because nobody will believe him, and he wouldn't be able to tell the truth anyway.

Ankers Sun 05-Mar-17 19:42:05

I am going to come back in! grin

NFK Quite! What a reckless thing to do!

And the article was downright dangerous, yet posters were queueing up to defend it!

Republicans[well most of them] are far from despair by the way!
Imagine the same thing over here. Out of power, and voila! In power with both Houses!

Ankers Sun 05-Mar-17 19:46:54

Doesnt mean they are that keen on Trump though. But power will go a long way to help them with that issue!

whitewave Sun 05-Mar-17 19:51:03

dj he will need money to build his wall. Not convinced that the Republicans will cough up.

Amazingly it is a Keynesian policy he's espousing. I wonder if he understands that?

Hammond is definately not going to follow him according to the bit I've Sen on the news today.

Ankers Sun 05-Mar-17 19:51:30

^and in the end, when he is gone (not re-electable in 2020 because of the mess that will be created)

Some posters say this, and some posters think he is almost cultish and will go on for a long time!

Personally I dont think he will last the 4 years due to something stupid he has done coming into the public domain.

Ankers Sun 05-Mar-17 19:56:06

^

That was never his idea was it? Have I missed something?

Jalima Sun 05-Mar-17 19:56:53

and a few Mexican brickies.

durhamjen Sun 05-Mar-17 20:02:45

I hope they charge three times the going rate at least, Jalima.

Lewlew Mon 06-Mar-17 11:54:44

DJ I am waiting for the movie or mini-series... Hollywood's Revenge grin
Ankers I don't know if they can get him on anything stupid, but if something criminal... we can only hope. smile
Jalima Saw a snarky post on a book site that Mexico is OK with the wall if the Americans will stay out! hmm

Rinouchka I see where Fillon says he's going to run no matter what. Is he the 'Trump du France'? I think their republican party are trying to block him anyway they can. Are they wanting to avoid what happened in the US? They need a strong candidate to beat LePen And who is Macron...what party? So many US parallels there. confused

daphnedill Mon 06-Mar-17 12:21:35

Macron was a member of Hollande's Socialist Party and has been a government minister. He's a former investment banker and civil servant. AFAIK he has a 'clean nose'. The people in France who follow politics will have heard of him, but his relative lack of baggage could be an advantage.

The polls are showing that Le Pen won't win outright in the first round of voting. In the second round, Fillon and Macron voters are likely to unite behind whichever one is left. But who knows?

My bet is that both France and Germany will have socialist leaders by the Autumn, which could be interesting, given that the rest of Europe seems to be heading towards the right.
