Apologies if there is a new Trump thread, but the only one I could find had hit the magic 1000 posts mark.
Just seen this on Facebook. Makes excellent sense.

durhamjen Sun 26-Feb-17 16:07:47

We won't know what is fake and what isn't. The Guardian has been denied access to trump's press briefings.
We'll soon only be able to get any information through Breitbart and Fox News.

Trump and Russia has not been shown to be fake news.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/feb/25/trump-russia-fbi-white-house-priebus

However, it's possibly why the Guardian has been kicked out of the press conference.

daphnedill Sun 26-Feb-17 16:06:12

How can anybody rephrase 'No'? hmm

Ankers Sun 26-Feb-17 16:00:40

rephrase, because they will probably delete mine for saying what your post says

I think your post of 15.56.07 may or will need to be deleted. Unless you are happy for it to stand. But they still have to be aware I think to cover themselves.

whitewave Sun 26-Feb-17 16:00:29

The no was to ana

Ankers Sun 26-Feb-17 15:58:28

i am thinking you may need to contact gransnet about the no

Ankers Sun 26-Feb-17 15:57:27

careful whitewave

Ankers Sun 26-Feb-17 15:57:07

melania. and what she is suing an american blogger and the DM for, was fake news was it not?

whitewave Sun 26-Feb-17 15:56:07

No?!

Ankers Sun 26-Feb-17 15:55:49

What was supposed to have happened in russia concerning Trump was fake news, was it not?

The KKK stuff was fake news was it not?

Ana Sun 26-Feb-17 15:49:58

Oh I don't know. Remember the spaghetti-tree news segment?

whitewave Sun 26-Feb-17 15:49:38

Breitbart claims to have influenced not only the trump election but also claims to have won Brexit for the far right. It is now working in France - however as far as I am aware Le Pen is unlikely to win.

whitewave Sun 26-Feb-17 15:46:03

What I took from this article is that the data being fed into the right wing computer is the emotional intelligence it is gleaning from individuals face book accounts. They are using this information - apparently extremely successfully in order to get at minds and hearts.

I am reading "The coming of the Third Reich" at the moment and the parallels are so worrying.
Look at trumpty and his rhetoric " the press is the enemy if the people" "fake news!" He screams - not one shred of evidence has been forthcoming. He includes the BBC which surely must say it all. The BBC of all media outlet cannot be accused of deliberate Fake.

AlieOxon Sun 26-Feb-17 15:20:01

dj that article is so scary!

durhamjen Sun 26-Feb-17 15:05:10

I'm not on facebook, either, whitewave.

“The danger of not having regulation around the sort of data you can get from Facebook and elsewhere is clear. With this, a computer can actually do psychology, it can predict and potentially control human behaviour. It’s what the scientologists try to do but much more powerful. It’s how you brainwash someone. It’s incredibly dangerous.

“It’s no exaggeration to say that minds can be changed. Behaviour can be predicted and controlled. I find it incredibly scary. I really do. Because nobody has really followed through on the possible consequences of all this. People don’t know it’s happening to them. Their attitudes are being changed behind their backs.”

From the article.

Lewlew, we have rules in the UK about how much money can be spent on elections and referenda. That's to stop one side having an advantage over the other.
It includes money in kind, which is what Mercer has been doing through Cambridge Analytica. The electoral commission is looking into both sides of the referendum and whether they have declared all expenses. This certainly sounds as if it should be investigated.

durhamjen Sun 26-Feb-17 14:50:29

Alex Baldwin's trump was taken for the real thing a couple of weeks ago, wasn't it, Lewlew?

What do you think about Mercer? Should we be worried?

AlieOxon Sun 26-Feb-17 14:46:21

Interesting about trump and the glitzy press dinner. Must have been a difficult decision....now he will not be there and they can all go - and talk about him!

What do you bet he will do something to keep himself in the limelight at the time?

Lewlew Sun 26-Feb-17 14:26:40

Tricia I had not seen it and looked it up. Cheers!

It brought to mind that my DH likes to watch Forces TV and Hogan's Heroes. I cannot have that on when German DIL comes to pick up DGD. Not a problem, usually it's Peppa Pig anwyays. grin

TriciaF Sun 26-Feb-17 14:20:25

What about Alf Garnett? TDDUP would be banned these days, no sense of humour.
You can still watch it on youtube.

Lewlew Sun 26-Feb-17 14:08:40

FFS people... there is a difference between fake news and satire. It actually has a name 'fauxtire' hmm

This is an instructive site for all who are fearful of being wrongly influenced by fake news propaganda. They also provide a link at the bottom on how to spot fake news websites. Go on, read it, you know you want to. wink

www.thatsfake.com/the-difference-between-satire-and-fauxtire/

Honestly, how did some of you ever survive Spitting Image? Later when we lived in the US, we also had Drop The Dead Donkey on a Brit channel and roared with our US friends over it. It enjoyed reruns in the 2000s where much of the politics was again played out to the same tune. Even in the 1970s you had Yes, Prime Minister which will ring true for decades to come! shock

Did you have a nanny newsreader ahead of these programmes warning of possibly inappropriate content about beloved politicians? confused

The British are masters of irony, lampooning and spinning both sacred and profane points of view. I hope that has not changed. We love watching SNL and Alex Baldwin's Trump... it's great! grin

Go on, pull the other one. smile

whitewave Sun 26-Feb-17 14:06:04

Trumpty has chickened out of attending the Press Dinner - the first one not to attend for 30 years. Probably because so many are refusing to attend.

Interesting about Mercer and Facebook. In fact pretty scary. Glad I'm not on Facebook.

durhamjen Sun 26-Feb-17 14:02:01

Is this fake news, POGS?

www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/feb/26/robert-mercer-breitbart-war-on-media-steve-bannon-donald-trump-nigel-farage

durhamjen Sun 26-Feb-17 12:42:58

POGS, can you show me where I have said anything about the playground or clutching pearls? I don't think I have, but I'm sure you'll correct my memory, if I'm wrong.

Where do you get all your news from, as you appear to think your news is real news, not fake news.
I never look at Sky as I refuse to have anything to do with Murdoch, as much as I can.
I think anything that Murdoch has anything to do with as dubious in the least.

POGS Sun 26-Feb-17 12:36:16

Rugby/Lewlew/durhamjen et al

Your 'repeated' comments which regress to talking about posters as 'being in the playground/clutching pearls etc. is your prerogative.

I find it rather sad to be honest when there is defence of Fake News being deemed as nothing more than 'comic relief'.

Actually the saddest part is posters who will have deemed some posters as being trustworthy, read their words as being practically gospel could well be querying if their assumption of those posters is worthy of maintaining that trust.

I am not defending Trump, never would, but I do believe on occasion he has brought out 'the worst' in others too. His vacuous rhetoric has transcended to the mouths and opinions of many it appears occasionally.

We will never see things the same way and we can all probably say 'Thank goodness' but I will never see Fake News as 'comic relief' , whoever is in the frame.

durhamjen Sun 26-Feb-17 11:06:57

Thanks, Lewlew. I was going to put that link to David Duke on, but thought better of it, as I would only be attacked for it.

Lewlew Sun 26-Feb-17 10:59:52

DJ
I had to look up this Occupy... I thought it was an outgrowth of the Occupy Wall Street group, but it's now different, or completely separate. We had Occupy movements here. grin

Founded in late 2012, Occupy Democrats is a political organization and information website that provides a new counterbalance to the Republican Tea Party. The Occupy Movement changed the national conversation around the issue of class and inequality, but unlike the Tea Party, it failed to achieve legislative victories.

Rinouchka
I had read about the FOX pickup on that as well, but thought I'd get my wrist slapped for posting it. hmm So thank you for that.

Rigby46
I agree, a person would have to be extremely gullible to believe some of the parody news or absurd news. Most of that stuff about Trump is not 'fake news', it's deliberately a farce. It's a response to HIS and his cronies fake news. Some links that are outrageous are actually comic relief! wink

On the other hand, if there are any GNers out there who want to play with the big kids in the schoolyard, they should spend some time reading on Quora. Stupid questions are met with rapid fire. smile
************************************
People need to make up their minds about fake news... FFS, the Pope Backs Trump? Or the KKK? (Well there is a connection there in that David Duke loves the fool)

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/kkk-david-duke-president-donald-trump-inauguration-a7538371.html

But that original KKK photo was produced by a photographer who does a lot of that. There are coffee table books with famous people in strange circumstances. I think even a Queen double has been used for irreverent humour. If it sounds and looks weird and stupid, it probably is, but people need to take responsibility to look up news properly.

However, The story of the week is Trump, Russia and the FBI. The rest is a distraction The White House reportedly tried to influence an active counter-intelligence investigation. All else, press ban included, is designed to deflect attention

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/feb/25/trump-russia-fbi-white-house-priebus

Oh, and did you see Nigel Farage wining and dining en famille in DC at Trump's hotel? I do wonder about the Secret Service swarm, though. Didn't think the Telegraph gave much attention to that kind of aside.
