Apologies if there is a new Trump thread, but the only one I could find had hit the magic 1000 posts mark.
Just seen this on Facebook. Makes excellent sense.

With so much going on in the UK/Europe, I haven't been up to speed with Trumps shenanigans, but I get the impression that the far right is spouting a huge amount of rhetoric and using terms like assassination, crushing, stomping, civil war etc. What on earth is going on?

durhamjen Mon 03-Jul-17 17:58:52

My grandson asked why trump didn't want people to know he was coming. We explained that he didn't want people demonstrating against him, or worse, mooning.
So obviously his mum had to explain what that was.
He's now hoping that trump will be in London when he is!

One the latest tweets from the idiot shows him punching someone who has CNN written on their face. This from the President of the USA.

Lewlew Mon 03-Jul-17 18:29:01

I hope Macron and the Parisians give him a good 'mooning'!

That image was from quite some time ago, and he resurrected it and put the CNN logo on the head... later changed to FNN.

Some republican in Montana grabbed a Guardian reporter and broke his glasses when he was bodyslammed by the ejit who was charged with assault and got a sentence. Too right!

whitewave I saw that too. Evidently took place before he was POTUS (I think) But still a reminder of the Wild West mentality which probably got him into his present position.

Has he been practising? (mooning) grin

durhamjen Mon 03-Jul-17 19:35:32

Not yet. He might be now, just in case. They are going to the World athletics championships next month. I think that might be too late.

Weird. The headline is that he will not.
What do you think? Fake news?

whitewave Tue 04-Jul-17 09:47:57

There has been no other mention of his visit so who knows?

Jalima1108 Tue 04-Jul-17 12:44:28

I've been thinking about this, and as other European Heads of State have 'welcomed' him and he will be at the summit in Hamburg this week, would we be discourteous to 'uninvite' him?

After all, it is the position of POTUS we are inviting; whether or not we dislike him should be irrelevant - shouldn't it?
And it gives him a chance to look even more foolish than he did when he went to Brussels and shoved others out of the way etc.
I'd quite like to hear what HM has to say to him (and Prince Philip before he retires shock).

whitewave Tue 04-Jul-17 19:15:22

Wonder what he will do about North Korea.

It is a bit worrying as Trump is impulsive. But presumably he will be given good advise, but in the end it comes down to Trump shock

Jalima1108 Tue 04-Jul-17 19:48:03

I hope he has aides with him all through the night as well as in the day.

whitewave Thu 06-Jul-17 14:04:21

One idiot in North Korea - one idiot in USA.

Russia and China sounding grown up

The EU can hopefully provide a steadying voice.

My first thought was

This below post is from a member on Quora, so I just copied and pasted all. It is very good. It has an update along with the original post.

The question which was asked was:

Why is Donald Trump so afraid of Robert Mueller? And was updated by the poster. Original post follows the video.

A commentor has very helpfully provided this 45 minute documentary filmed by a highly respected Dutch investigatory TV program, ZEMBLA. This Dutch TV program has also gone after and uncovered crooked politicians and businessmen in the Netherlands, so it’s the real deal. It provides an INCREDIBLE overview of how Trump is tied up with crooked Russian billionaires, the mafia and money laundering (through shell companies set up in the Netherlands, hence why Dutch journalists are now covering this), the very things I stated below. Truly explosive! Watch it if you have the time.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bEdMuKq30I

ORIGINAL POST Trump is extremely afraid of Mueller because of three outcomes:

Trump may end up dying in prison or Trump may end up under investigation by the feds and state authorities, thereby fighting an avalanche of serious and protracted lawsuits that will bleed him of tens or maybe even hundreds of millions of dollars through settlements and legal bills, until he dies.
And, an ancillary outcome, the threat of having all or most of his money impounded and taken away by the feds, leaving his family pretty poor when he dies.

Trump for so long has gotten away with so much—the most notable being pretty shady business deals with Russian billionaires and New Jersey mob bosses (which happened during his casino days in Atlantic City).

He also had the ability to defraud powerless and poor people, either through outright grifting, like the Trump University scandal, or through bullying and intimidation, which for the most part consisted of not paying his small-business sub-contractors by threatening to bury them under lawsuits. Because he’s rich he could afford good lawyers to either settle—the $25 million settlement in the Trump University case comes to mind—or to work out very complex transactions that shielded him from government scrutiny.

And Trump was a second-rate real estate businessman who bankrupted himself 6 times. Then a lightweight reality-TV star. In other words, he did not fit the profile of people of deep interest to the FBI, the Department of Justice, state attorneys general and the like. He was easily able afford the lawyers who could shield him from the authorities, and he had a pretty sweet and easy life slapping his name on any product or building willing to pay up and being a TV star.

But that is no more. Trump made the biggest mistake of his life—he ran for and won the U.S. presidency.

Now in the White House he has made enemies far more powerful, and far more intelligent and implacable, than he has ever dealt with before. All the malfeasance he’s gamely (and so far successfully) tried to hide from the U.S. authorities is now very much exposed.

Because Trump’s so arrogant and has such a high view of himself, it never occurred to him that becoming President was the worst thing that could ever happen to him, that now he is surrounded by law-enforcement officers who cannot be bribed, who cannot be bent to his will. These are people who actually take their oaths to the Constitution and to upholding the rule of law very, VERY seriously.

And now they’re digging in deep and they’re going to dig far into Trump’s many shady business deals reaching back decades. And a fountain of corruption, money laundering and other crimes will start pouring out.

Trump will be under the government’s thumb, sweating and praying for good outcomes, for the rest of his life. These past five months are just the beginning of a long, stressful and very unpleasant phase in his life. This will be the case even if he leaves the presidency on or before 2021.

That is no way to spend one’s golden twilight years. But Trump brought all of this upon himself—nobody asked him to run for President. He was not satisfied with what he had—which was quite a lot—so he decided to go out and foolishly get more. And now his unquenched, relentless greed for more and more will be his downfall. He has absolutely no sympathy from me.

I see trump's ethics watchdog has resigned.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jul/06/walter-shaub-resigns-office-government-ethics

What now for trump's ethical policy?
Has he actually had one?

Lewlew Fri 07-Jul-17 09:16:47

Not surprised at that... but that he resigned and wasn't fired? Interesting. Wonder what will come out of the Putin-Trump thing. He cannot speak to a script in a meeting. Guess we will hear more of his 'stuff', 'things' 'bad things', etc. He's got the vocabulary of a 10 year old. I wonder if Putin will bring out his pet bear, or dog or something to make Trump feel defensive as he did with Merkel and his big dog. She was attacked by a dog as a child and was afraid of them. He has a history of making those who meet him uncomfortable. hmm

durhamjen Fri 07-Jul-17 09:42:13

I like the idea that Merkel's husband has taken Melania and Ivanka Trump to learn about climate change.
About time, too. Perhaps they'll have a little chat with Donald about it.

durhamjen Fri 07-Jul-17 09:48:31

Interesting comparison between trump and Putin here, Lewlew.

whitewave Fri 07-Jul-17 09:58:33

Listening to the pundits on CNN, they don't think that Trump will mention anything controversial to Putin.

I'm not surprised as he is clearly not up to any argument any more sophisticated than a child's.

durhamjen Fri 07-Jul-17 10:42:55

He's already told Putin to stay out of Ukraine and Syria.
Can't get much more controversial than that!
Putin's ignoring him, of course.

durhamjen Fri 07-Jul-17 10:43:46

Looking forward to the handshaking contest.
My money is on Putin to win.

Lewlew Fri 07-Jul-17 12:31:12

Good BBC link, DJ... thanks!
