Oh no! - he's back! I cannot bear his self-satisfied voice!

It does not matter what he says; he just gives me the creeps.

I doubt he gives a fig for what I think though grin

Quantative Easing is used by other countries besides the Bank of England and since the Financial Crash in 2008. Japan , The European Central Bank, US Federal Reserve all have used Quantative Easing.

Quotes from Tone in a previous life.
1982
Above all the European economic community takes away britains freedom to follow the sort of economic policies we need.
1983
We'll negotiate a withdrawal from the eec which has drained our natural resources and distroyed jobs .
1997
On the day we remember the legend that St George slayed a dragon to protect England , some would argue that there is another dragon to be slayed, Europe.
2005
I am a passionate pro- European. I always have been.

durhamjen Mon 20-Feb-17 18:08:00

His grasp of history is suspect as well, then.

daphnedill Mon 20-Feb-17 18:55:36

There's a weasel phrase in the George and the dragon quote: "some will argue". In other words, he doesn't believe it himself, but it created the impression that he did. Even in 1997, there were Euro-sceptics in the Labour Party and he was trying to appease them.

durhamjen Mon 20-Feb-17 18:59:20

But it doesn't say that some would argue that St George slayed a dragon to protect England. He didn't.

Jalima Mon 20-Feb-17 19:05:37

A legend:
a traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but not authenticated.
so he didn't state that St George (born in Turkey) slaying the dragon was a fact

durhamjen Mon 20-Feb-17 19:16:41

But he did say to protect England.

absent Mon 20-Feb-17 19:26:55

Was the dragon English or was it a filthy foreign dragon living on state benefits in social housing, laying eggs willy nilly and refusing to integrate with native dragons or even learn the language?

daphnedill Mon 20-Feb-17 19:30:36

Apparently he did dj. www.independent.co.uk/incoming/cry-god-for-tony-blair-england-and-the-sun-5570832.html

However, he then went on to say why the 'some' were wrong.

daphnedill Mon 20-Feb-17 19:31:57

What's that supposed to mean, absent? on the face of it, it sounds racist.

Jalima Mon 20-Feb-17 19:34:58

European dragons are legendary creatures in folklore and mythology among the overlapping cultures of Europe. ... Though a winged creature, the dragon is generally to be found in its underground lair, a cave that identifies it as an ancient creature of earth.

It escaped to the Welsh mountains, breathing brexit fire and waiting to take on the might of St Anthony and his sword.

Sorry, losing the plot now, time to go.

daphnedill Mon 20-Feb-17 19:36:51

Strangely enough, it was reported in the Independent (see link) on 22nd April, which is the day before St George's Day. No, he didn't touch on whether it was fact or not. He was trying to introduce a nationalistic tone into his speech, but was careful to say that he didn't believe it himself. It's probable it was written by Alistair Campbell.

daphnedill Mon 20-Feb-17 19:38:08

PS. It was reported in the Sun, which might give you an idea of his audience.

durhamjen Mon 20-Feb-17 20:03:39

There's a Hebridean Black in Harry Potter, but the other nine are not British. No English ones.

LuckyDucky Wed 22-Feb-17 08:26:51

You're right LuckyG We have free speech - but only to an extent.

Yes, Blair has a right to air his opinions. But, his mental processes and manner mirrors that of Hilary Clinton.hmm

We know Blair and Branson are working hard for a second referendum. It will be interesting to find out which channel and how much air time they are given.

grannypiper Thu 23-Feb-17 08:41:20

Does this vile creature actually think anyone believes a word he says ? He really cannot pull anyone up on mistruths, pot, kettle, black spring to mind.

rosesarered Thu 23-Feb-17 09:28:41

What absent means dd is that she is joking .....and hoped we would all see the joke.

rosesarered Thu 23-Feb-17 09:31:03

Blair making a bit of a comeback is a gift for the cartoonists.grin

daphnedill Thu 23-Feb-17 10:07:37

Are you in telepathic communication with absent roses?

whitewave Thu 23-Feb-17 10:10:07

Pleased to see "don't play the man but play the argument" is dead and buried in GN.

Sometimes it really is worth listening to the message and ignore the messenger.

rosesarered Thu 23-Feb-17 12:22:30

dd from being on GN you get to know other posters a bit, and absent is in no way a racist nor makes any racist comments. It was so obvious that she was joking ( irony)
In her comments about 'dragons' but you obviously don't get it.

Riverwalk Thu 23-Feb-17 12:44:10

A filthy foreign one I'd say absent grin

daphnedill Thu 23-Feb-17 12:57:33

Has she lost her 'voice'?

Unfortunately, one does get to 'know' certain posters. hmm I thought you'd decided that news affects your mental health. Or has the coven been having its AGM? wink

rosesarered Thu 23-Feb-17 16:54:41

Are you talking to me dd? Because that sounds like one of your typical deliberately rude posts that you go in for from time to time.....I have to wonder why, just having a bad day perhaps? other posters here know absent and also 'get' her jokey comment,
Such as Riverwalk for a start. You haven't been on GN all that long so thought the comment was a serious one maybe or didn't see what she was really saying with her comment. No doubt absent will be along shortly.

rosesarered Thu 23-Feb-17 16:57:00

Riverwalk is also joking dd
