Apparently British workers "are among the worst idlers in the world". They claim that the EU stops bosses making workers work longer hours. Hmm! Funny that didn't come up in the 2015 manifesto.

Why is the housing benefit issue for 18-21 year olds a U-turn? It's disgraceful, but it was in the 2015 manifesto. People voted for it.

Her speech 8 months ago consisted of weasel words - she didn't promise anything.

She was concerned about youngsters being able to have a home. If they cannot live with their parents, they could end up homeless, as they are not entitled to housing benefit.
How can they even start to save towards a deposit if they cannot claim housing benefit whatever their circumstances.
It applies to all those under 21 going on UC, which means all those on low pay anyway. She said she was on the side of those born into poverty. This is how she shows it?

Utterly ludicrous. Cut the subsidy for solar, and then slap an extra tax on it. Have they not heard that they are signed up to a carbon reduction target. Or are they just taking the mick?
Surely the best place to put lots of solar is on large flattish roofs? People are griping here about covering large fields with it and I can (just about) see their point.

Yes, Jess. School and factory roofs are perfect. Those are the places that should have rate reductions.

I was talking about something similar with my grandson today, as one day last week, Denmark produced enough windpower for all electicity usage.
He wanted to know why the UK doesn't have more renewable energy, and the only information we could find online was the fact that lots of people who fund the Tory party have connections to oil and gas production.

Have to say that the Blair government were not very progressive in this area. Half hearted would be more like it.
We could not rely on wind power here, however many turbines we had, because we are not in a very windy part of the world. Or a very sunny part of the world.
I think the fact that we are an island also complicates as it is not so easy to shunt electricity over the border. There is a big "interconnected" I think under the channel but I think Germany is linked to many surrounding countries, so can afford to get rid of nuclear and gloat when their renewables cover all their daily needs - they can export to other countries easily - because you can't turn off big power stations at the flick of a switch.
I was trying to read a rather complicated article in the Economist about the economics of the electricity market and how it needs a complete re-think if renewables are to be supported with more enthusiasm by governments.

It is a tragedy that in the 1980s when the oil revenues were flowing in they were not used to invest in renewable energy, instead of being used for political purposes like clobbering Arthur Scargill by stockpiling Polish coal and selling off council houses for next to nothing to buy votes for MT.

Heseltine did sound as if he was talking more in sorrow than in anger. I wonder how many break-away Tories it takes for those who really hate the take-over from the far right to rebel?
