Oh, the sarcasm No I don't think I have seen anyone (recently) on here who would behave in that way but sadly there are some on other forums who are quite extreme enough and blinkered enough to make it a possibility. Yes I think cooperation with Germany with regard to our armed forces must be a good thing. I must say though, one minute we're never darkening each others doors again , the next, we're in close cooperation with regard to defence! It does make you wonder what is going on behind closed doors re: Brexit!! Can't help but feel that there is much more being discussed than meets the eye, or that we'll ever know about!!!!

Have you all forgotten that in 1945 Germany was forbidden to form an army. They can only defend and the Uk would not be happy with that.
By the way I have not read anything about it in newspapers nor heard anything on German TV or radio about it.

Herr Tusk said in his letter to Ms May that European security is a no go and will not be bartered for trade reasons. As to our security with terrorists I feel as safe in Germany as most of you do in the UK. I noticed however that there were more armed (police?)men in Manchester Airport or Meadowhall than in the Houses of Parliament and trust that this is not the case in Berlin.

I think the Eu has always been open in how a so called Divorce would proceed, and I think Ms May must back down. Boris Johnson has already said that European security will not be breached. I would suggest that Ms May in her further speeches lowers her voice a bit and proceeds in a matter of fact manner like the Europeans do.
Its no longer the time for emotions. If we gave in to our emotions we must all break down in floods of tears.

Back to the joint defence initiative. It certainly makes geographical sense, and given Trump's luke warm attitude, it makes political sense as well.

Yes this joint defence arrangement is being discussed between Germany and the UK in response to Trumps iffyness about NATO. UK helicopters flying from German warships has been suggested The German army is about 60.000 strong well equipped and is, as well as home defence, used as part of peacekeeping forces when required.
It's true Germany was not allowed a standing military after 1945, but over the years that's all changed.

Aren't Germany allowed defence but not offence? Sounds as if we may provide that.

Amber Rudd was talking about leaving Europol and said that if we left we would take our information with us.
I wonder what she would feel if EU citizens were killed and it could have been avoided if she had shared information with EU security forces.

Regarding Trump, there is an article in the i today, suggesting that he plans a nuclear strike first on North Korea. I really don't want us to have anything to do with US neclear weapons.
There is also the idea than North Korea can use EMP to wipe out the US electrical infrastructure already. This is more scary than Russia, as Kim Jong Un appears to have no scruples.

The puzzling thing about the proposed reduction in the disclosure of security information in the event of us not getting a satisfactory trade deal, is that communication is a two way conduit. Crucial information may be withheld from us, putting the UK population, our towns and cities at greater risk. The whole concept of worsening the terms of co-operation in the fight against terrorism is too dire to contemplate.

The two issues should not have been in the same sentence. TM was wrong to link the two and I hope her own back benches and yes, some on the front benches will have told her so.

Mays reference to a liberal democracy will have annoyed the hard right of her party , but it will have been a message to them, that she is not prepared for a no deal as they are pushing so hard for.

But ww, even if all the tough talk is posturing to placate the hard right of her party surely she can see that she is not winning us any friends in the EU by doing it? Unless she really does want Brexit to prove impossible..?
