Emily Thornberry is pretty posh inspite of her protestations otherwise. Actually, I think her accent is quite attractive, it's got a low pitch which is always a good thing for anyone involved in public speaking. For further clarification for those who can't distinguish between a posh southern accent, try listening to Danny Dyer his accent definitely aint posh, but possibly HE IS having recently watched "Who Do You Think You Are" Then as pointed out by Jalima at the other end of the spectrum is the fogey aka Jacob Rees-Mogg. Everyone else is somewhere in between

Jane10 that'll be the Ruth Davidson whose party was elected with a MASSIVE surge in the tory vote to 22% ...from the DISASTROUS vote of 24% a few years ago..the Ruth who told us AFTER the brexit vote that it would be a disater for Scotland and we needed to stay in the EU ...and then changed her mind? The tories who only have MSP's because they are on the list ,some of whom were third on the list ,some who tried four times to get elected and still only made it to the list ! Theres NO tory surge here its media spin !!

Jalima I think Mhairi Black is a very inspiring young woman,whether you like her Paisley accent or not.She has made more contributions to debates in the commons than most other MP's ,,she's young hardworking and idealistic .Whats not to like ?

Yes she's so idealistic that she wants to leave parliament. She could try a job in the real world!

Perhaps she should have spent a few years in the "real world" doing another job before she stood for Parliament.

Maybe that's what she wants to do. I admire her for admitting it. Then she could go back to parliament in a few years time.
Of course, MPs do represent students as well.

Mhairi Black has no intention of giving up being an MP, that's just the way it was reported after she said she is sick of Westminster and the way it operates - an example being the way her Private Member's Bill to make sanctions a little bit fairer was talked out by Tory MPs.

its not the job she doesn't like its the system and "tradition" of westminster ,SShe thinks its antiquated and she's right .It should be brought into the 21st century ,they should behave like adults instead of spoilt children jeering and making noises when they dont like whats being said.I honestly feel ashamed that these people we see on our screens acting like idiots are siupposed to be intelligent enough to represent us.*Jane 10 and Varian" Mhairi Black as we know is SNP and we also know that in your eyes its SNP BAD ! Paddyann re Ruth Davidson - this thread is about the people not their party. My point was despite being the leader of a party which is unpopular in Scotland she scores very highly in terms of personal popularity. More so I think than NS despite being the leader of a very popular party. As to Westminster I agree with Mhairi and yourself there - they do need to stop the ridiculous antics in the chamber.

Ruth Davidson may be likeable as a person but that won't get her votes if her party's policies are unpopular.

The OP asks who is the better politician, not whose accent do you like or not.
Nicola Sturgeon at least answers the questions she is asked, a rare thing for a politician to do. To me that is "better".

Well Farnorth we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Politics is much easier when you are pushing popular policies, and as far as I can see RD answers questions in just as straightforward a manner as NS. You might not like the answers but that's hardly the point. Il

I see Theresa May as more of a headmistress than a head girl somehow. I could just see her at prize giving awarding the annual medal for debating to Ruth D!

Headmistresses tend to have power and follow their own agenda Jane10. May was appointed by a dodgy system and whoever supported her holds the real power. If she is a headmistress a group of school governors are running her. No Ruth does her best but should stick to the hockey team.

It's not a bad team either. Just doesn't have many supporters! :-)

Mhairi Black is of course the new girl who got off to a spectacular start but seems to have problems with the rules. This has been reported to her Head of House, but if she continues along her present path a move might be advisable.
