Brexit all done and dusted?

As an arch REMOANER I for one (of many) will not simply roll over and say that is that. As things progress at the very least parliament must ensure that the country does not Brexit in a bad way because of "The Will of the People". So many lies were told by both side at the time of referendum that when the full facts come to light a re-think should be considered.

I have yet to hear a sound reason for voting LEAVE. Of course the EU is far from perfect but we are better trying to change it from within than sniping from outside. A general election or second referendum before the point of absolute no return.

I happen to be visiting Brussels on an educational trip after Easter so until then I will put up and shut up unless really provoked.

Bloomberg is tracking banking companies after Brexit.

I mentioned Macron visiting the Whirlpool Factory at Amien previously but this is an interesting statement he made.

“Banning the payment of dividends or forbidding a company from closing a site it has decided to close is not possible, would even be counterproductive,” he said. “Why? Because there is a freedom of enterprise and free property in our democracy,” he said. "So on that, I won’t bring an answer because it’s not true. If I do that, no one will come invest in France,” he explained."

Why mention this? What point am I making?

I get fed up with the single minded view, every angle that can be 'used' to blame Brexit , is used without any credence there is another possible / feasable answer or line of thought.

I am playing Devils Advocate really.

I think POGS that it is true that you cannot blame Brexit for all the problems of a post-industrial society where, in essence, there are too many people and not enough jobs. What you can say, is that in times of huge economic uncertainty when the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, Brexit is a major distraction and leaving a large market on the doorstep of the UK, for a massively uncertain future is a very bad idea.

The EU27 has sorted out its priorities, and the first one is the status of EU citizens here and abroad.

Unfortunately, Theresa May cannot respond because she has called an election.

rosesarered Sun 30-Apr-17 10:42:01

What about our priorities and the status of UK citizens in 27 other countries!

rosesarered Sun 30-Apr-17 10:43:19

TMay wanted to sort this out long ago, as we all know, it was the EU who refused to talk about it.

trisher Sun 30-Apr-17 10:47:35

No she didn't she refused to give EU citizens in the UK any rights so the EU said it would not discuss until its citizens were protected. Something I think is completely acceptable.

rosesarered Sun 30-Apr-17 11:43:43

They would not consider reciprocating!

durhamjen Sun 30-Apr-17 11:49:43

You obviously did not read the link, roses. The EU says about both UK citizens in the EU and EU citizens in the UK is a priority.Didn't realise you needed to be spoonfed that much.
"The status of EU citizens here and abroad" includes both groups. The UK is still a member of the EU.

The EU parliament has talked several times about the position of UK citizens in the EU and also those who wish to remain and still live in the UK - the 48% . They are often saying how Europe must not forget the 48% - something never mentioned in HoP!!!
If they come up with a viable way for UK citizens to also have European Citizenship It will be for any UK citizen who wishes to retain their European rights.
Amongst the agreement they wish to be sorted prior to Amy deals is that all citizens from whatever current EU state will continue with the same rights of healthcare wherever they live as they have now - ie. UK citizens in EU countries and Eu citizens in the UK.

The EU is clearly going to fall and rightly so. I see durhamjen is still sending links and demanding people read them grin yawn yawn.

stillaliveandkicking Thu 04-May-17 19:42:12

Ever thought of moving to Europe durhamjen whilst you still can grin Don't think you'd be missed very much.

Ana Thu 04-May-17 19:44:23

I thought she wanted to move to Scotland...?

stillaliveandkicking Thu 04-May-17 19:45:20

Closer than Brussels I suppose.

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 19:45:34

That's stupid, saaki.
I can still be on GN, no matter where I move to.
Have you not noticed how many on here live in France and Germany?
Have you ever thought of going away?

Just for you.

rosesarered Thu 04-May-17 19:46:02

Ah, but you can operate on GN from anywhere!

durhamjen Thu 04-May-17 19:46:24

By the way, we still are in Europe, and may still be in in ten years time.

rosesarered Thu 04-May-17 19:48:11

We will always be in Europe ,but not the EU.

Ana Thu 04-May-17 19:48:16

Not many from Germany (one?). Quite a few ex-pats from France.

rosesarered Thu 04-May-17 19:48:35

Hopefully!

rosesarered Thu 04-May-17 19:49:14

Not from Spain?

stillaliveandkicking Thu 04-May-17 19:51:01

You knew exactly what I meant jen ("May" I call you jen?) Stupid or not, people like you that cannot accept living in a democratic society may (oh dear I've said it again) like to think about being somewhere more in line with your views.

Ana Thu 04-May-17 19:54:51

roses there may be, but I can't think of any who post regularly on here.
