Brexit all done and dusted?

As an arch REMOANER I for one (of many) will not simply roll over and say that is that. As things progress at the very least parliament must ensure that the country does not Brexit in a bad way because of "The Will of the People". So many lies were told by both side at the time of referendum that when the full facts come to light a re-think should be considered.

I have yet to hear a sound reason for voting LEAVE. Of course the EU is far from perfect but we are better trying to change it from within than sniping from outside. A general election or second referendum before the point of absolute no return.

I happen to be visiting Brussels on an educational trip after Easter so until then I will put up and shut up unless really provoked.

According to a report published today by the forecasting group EY item club, the era of rising employment is over and the Brexit effect is now beginning to be felt.
Unemployment set to rise to 5.8%
Pay is set to only rise by 1%
Inflation set to rise by more than the 2.3% it is now.
A significant amount of British workers will see a real fall in their living standards.
This will create a fall in consumer spending due to the insecurity.

One of the major reasons May called the election

WW are you sure this is not just scaremongering grin.

It has just taken longer than was originally thought to actually come to fruition. There was also bad news today about more banks moving (Chase being one) and EU firms looking to source components within the EU ready for two years time.

There is a brighter side in that some UK companies are looking to try and source some of their components in UK but I suppose price will be somewhat dependant on the cost of raw materials if they need to be imported.

The dye is cast.

Shouldn't that be 'the die'? Otherewise it could get messy...

Welshwife Mon 15-May-17 18:49:10

No - you Dye a fabric and when done and set it is cast.

Die is to no longer be alive .

FarNorth Mon 15-May-17 18:51:08

The die is cast:
From games of chance in which the outcome is determined by the throwing of dice or a single die.

Ana Mon 15-May-17 18:51:12

I suggest you look it up...hmm

Also as I said - once the colour is in the fabric it cannot be removed -

However Brexit is a bit of a chance!

durhamjen Mon 15-May-17 18:54:41

Except, of course, there is nothing to chance in this. We all knew this would happen.

I prefer Welshwife's explanation.

Welshwife Mon 15-May-17 18:56:40

I did fabric/weaving course at College and she always spoke of the dye being cast - often set with salt.

Ana Mon 15-May-17 18:56:40

Of course you do...grin

Ana Mon 15-May-17 18:58:56

You believe what you want to, Welshwife. (Do have a quick google later though...wink)

Alea iacta est ("The die is cast") is a Latin phrase attributed by Suetonius to Julius Caesar on January 10, 49 B.C. as he led his army across the Rubicon river in Northern Italy.

The dye is cast is of course a misspelling, but it’s not as common as we thought it might be.

wink

grannylyn65 Mon 15-May-17 19:05:54

It's die !!

Jalima1108 Mon 15-May-17 19:06:28

The point of no return - aka as 'Crossing the Rubicon'

rosesarered Mon 15-May-17 22:03:20

Suetonious was right, Caesar did say that, I remember it well.We were having a quick game of snakes and ladders before battle, and he confiscated our die (the bastard!)

Jalima1108 Tue 16-May-17 10:37:50

Suetonious was scribbling it all down, even your exclamation 'Bastardis!!'

Jalima1108 Tue 16-May-17 10:41:30

sorry - Bastardus! I think blush

I mis-heard, and it has been a long time since then, my memory fails me.

trisher Tue 16-May-17 10:56:18

You say die I say dye
You say Bastardus I say Bastardis

Oh the first 2 sound the same!!? Bloody English spelling again!!

Thanks for a much needed laugh grin

Jalima1108 Tue 16-May-17 10:58:37

talking about dye - my lovely new navy blue scarf has leaked dye (die?) all over my nice new cream top (it wasn't even raining at the time)
Bastardus!!

Any tips please Welshwife or shall I start another thread? I washed it 3 times in very hot water and it is a nice very pale navy now.

trisher Tue 16-May-17 14:10:43

A colour 'to die for'?

Cindersdad Tue 16-May-17 17:49:58

Apparently my question on BBC Askthis made live TV on the BBC Newchannel around 12:45 pm today. Sadly for me I was out at the time so never heard the answer

A leading Question to all party leaders

A lot more has come to light since the referendum so views have changed both ways. If during negotiations it becomes clear that remaining within the EU would be better for Britain should parliament have a free vote to overturn the referendum result (or may be call a second referendum)?

Did anyone hear the answer from Labour though TM's reply would be more interesting?

whitewave Tue 16-May-17 17:52:27

Yes -it's Brexit all the way regardless it seems. Answer by shadow women's minister - didn't get her name.

durhamjen Tue 16-May-17 17:57:14

However....

voxpoliticalonline.com/2017/05/16/how-can-anyone-be-stupid-enough-to-think-labour-supports-the-tories-on-brexit/

Labour's Brexit is different to Tory Brexit.

varian Tue 16-May-17 19:13:22

Labour is not convincing on Brexit. Jeremy Corbyn was as unenthusiastic and as invisible as Theresa May in the Remain campaign. I suspect both were either closet Leavers or "what's in it for me" opportunists.

If you think Brexit is wrong and damaging for our country you must vote Liberal Democrat.
