May is to make an important announcement at 11.15

Anniebach Wed 19-Apr-17 22:04:22

No answer from me sorry POGS, I hsve decided they are all barking

POGS Wed 19-Apr-17 21:46:53

I admit to putting this post on another thread but considering other posters do the same on a regular basis here goes.

Why did the SNP Abstain from voting for a General Election today?

The reason given 'The SNP believe in the Fixed Term Parliament.'. Sorry, you what.!

I honestly do not understand why after listening to 'years' of SNP rhetoric that is Tory hating, Westminster Parliament hating, more recently repeatedly saying Theresa May is not elected so has 'No Mandate', does not want Brexit and Scotland voted overwhelmingly Remain, why the hell didn't they vote for a General Election?

I would have thought the SNP would have been first out of the stalls, viewed a General Election as an opportunity to get what they want.

Why do I feel the SNP have acted rather peculiarly today by abstaining , then calling for other parties to ' join them '
in a coalition.

Oh, it's a laugh a minute on this thread...

POGS Wed 19-Apr-17 21:35:42

Jane 10

Well John Prescott is his dad .

Ana Wed 19-Apr-17 21:34:16

Standing in his seat!

Jane10 Wed 19-Apr-17 21:13:50

I misread that as John Prescott and thought 'wow that'll be interesting'. grin

POGS Wed 19-Apr-17 21:03:45

Isn't David Prescott Corbyn's Speech Writer ?

He stood for election in Gainsborough at the last election but lost. ?

He is a trier I'll give him that.

grannypiper Wed 19-Apr-17 21:00:57

Annie Sadly yes she does have her face on a helicopter, thank god for austerity or we would have a full length picture no doubt

durhamjen Wed 19-Apr-17 20:49:27

David Prescott is thinking of standing in Alan Johnson's seat.

durhamjen Wed 19-Apr-17 20:46:03

I see both the BBC and ITV are going to have leadership debates whether May turns up or not.

Anniebach Wed 19-Apr-17 20:44:58

And a fourth

Gisela Stuart is standing down

Anniebach Wed 19-Apr-17 20:40:59

The boundery changes are to average out the votes for constituencies

Fitzy54 Wed 19-Apr-17 20:27:52

DJ of the Tories were really attempting to gerrymander I've no doubt Labour would be marching them into the nearest courtroom.

durhamjen Wed 19-Apr-17 20:09:10

No, fitzy, it's a way to get rid of two Labour MPs.

Blinko Wed 19-Apr-17 20:02:00

Cheers, Ana. I'll give it a go.

daphnedill Wed 19-Apr-17 19:53:19

My constituency is losing a bit and gaining a bit. They're both leafy green areas with a few villages, so I don't suppose it will make the slightest bit of difference.

daphnedill Wed 19-Apr-17 19:50:51

grannypiper

Get them to vote LibDem instead!

There are 8 seats in Scotland which need less than a 10% swing.

Fitzy54 Wed 19-Apr-17 19:35:50

Well DJ, maybe a good seat for Bear Grulls?
To be fair though, I'm assuming the expansion in area is necessary to bring in the appropriate number of voters.

durhamjen Wed 19-Apr-17 19:00:21

It will include both the A66 and the A68, both of which are the first roads to close when snow comes to the Dales.

durhamjen Wed 19-Apr-17 18:55:21

I feel sorry for whoever takes over from my MP, who is standing down now. At the moment the constituency is quite large. It is going to go from Barnard Castle in the South East, across to Middleton in Teesdale, up to Consett and across to Gateshead and part of Durham City. The MP will not be able to get to half of it in winter. She has two separate offices as it is. There will need to be four after the changes to be able to get to see all her constituents.

Fitzy54 Wed 19-Apr-17 18:47:26

Yes DJ, my MP's constituency is being cut to pieces, though I'm not really sure how it will all pan out in terms of the makeup of local MPs.

grammargran Wed 19-Apr-17 18:43:41

Thanks durhamjen, we live and learn! (I'm getting a little tired of Theresa already, she looks so bloomin' confident ...... )

Ooh, how did you guess...?

Do get back to the election - you haven't said anything horrible about TM for ages!

durhamjen Wed 19-Apr-17 18:26:16

I think he means that if May wins with a big mandate, the next time there is an election after this one, the new boundaries will be in, and many more labour seats will be lost.
The boundary changes for my area put three labour seats into one, and another bit of this seat goes into a large Tory one. That's what he means.
Are there any changes where you live?
