Voting quandry

I'm a life-long Labour voter but cannot bear to suppprt Corbyn in the forthcoming election. The party will remain a shambles until it is under proper leadership and he seems to have totally lost the plot. I will not vote Conservative for many reasons and I feel betrayed by Theresa May's u-turn on Brexit, u-turn on not calling an election...there is no trust.

I will not abstain - the vote is a privilege. But for the first time I am seriously at a loss. There is no credible opposition. Locally there are no viable candidates that I feel I can endorse in order to make a point. I need to put my X in the box and it's the first time ever I've thought they are all as bad as each other.

Anniebach I suppose if only 12% voted it must mean that the rest of them don't really mind either way. (or they just couldn't be bothered)

Anniebach Tue 25-Apr-17 13:36:21

What has been reported about any of the leaders by the Beeb that is untrue?

Ana Tue 25-Apr-17 13:31:34

jaycee if Corbyn was elected as PM he could appoint whoever he liked as Deputy PM.

angelab Tue 25-Apr-17 13:30:10

POGS it was non-specific coverage by BBC news, where I couldn't understand (I remember) why they always seemed to cast Jeremy Corbyn in a negative light, always picking up things the labour party didn't like about him...

POGS Tue 25-Apr-17 13:26:42

angelab Tue 25-Apr-17 13:19:29
Sorry POGS don't think it's possible to retrieve bbc coverage from then

So it was the BBC!

How did you see / hear about it can I ask please. Was it in a Panorama type programme, news?

Rabbitgran Tue 25-Apr-17 13:25:23

Unless you're in Corbyn's constituency, you're not voting for him but your local Labour candidate. I know what you mean, Corbyn's not my favourite Labour politician either but I'm still voting Labour because I believe in decency. Also, most the media establishment always try to pull Labour leaders down. Please vote Labour, marbles.

Anniebach Tue 25-Apr-17 13:22:53

The only way to change the government is through the ballot box, will middle England vote for the far left? Does the promise of strengthening the
Unions powers make voters comfortable or fear increase in strikes? Some still remember strikes where rubbish bags filled the streets and in parts of the country the dead couldn't be buried untill the end of a strike

Why did only 12% of UNITE members choose to vote at their leadership election?

Jaycee5 Tue 25-Apr-17 13:20:56

jevive Why would Diane Abbott be deputy? The deputy is elected not appointed.
People just make things up.

angelab Tue 25-Apr-17 13:19:29

"soon to be changed to G4S security staff (courtesy of Mrs Mays husbands firm) the waters are polluted in the area.

angelab Tue 25-Apr-17 12:04:47
Completely agree paddyann

Interesting, can either of you provide evidence please.

angelab Tue 25-Apr-17 13:14:17

joannewton46 completely agree, from day 1 bbc have been negative about Jeremy Corbyn, like they wanted rid.

jevive73 Tue 25-Apr-17 13:12:49

Corbyn for pm and Diane Abbott as deputy. I really hope not. I wsh they would show GBH on telly now, because that is how I view Corbyn. I would love to vote Labour if someone like Alan Johnson was leader of the Labour party

I voted remain but feel now, if we are coming out, Theresa May is the best option. It is rumoured she will get rid of Boris Johnson - yippee.

joannewton46 Tue 25-Apr-17 12:59:46

I haven't voted Labour for many years as they were little different to the conservatives. Sadly the LibDems who I did vote for were totally discredited by Nick Clegg and have no chance.

I WILL vote for Jeremy as I believe he stands for traditional Labour values. Yes, he's split the party - Labour against almost-Tory factions. If the BBC gave him as positive a coverage as the Tories get - or were even neutral - people would get a totally different impression of the man and his beliefs. I have no view either way on Trident but scrapping it would provide all the money the Tories say we don't have to pay for the NHS and social care etc that we need.

The Tories clearly want to destroy the Welfare State and have taken us backwards towards the time before it existed, making it more important than ever. After recent threads and news regarding the loss of benefits for the disabled, increasing use of food banks, increasing homelessness etc bother you, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT and GET RID of May and her cohorts. If you're happy with the way things are going, vote May and G-d help us all!

daphnedill Tue 25-Apr-17 12:54:32

Careful what you say about Philip May and G4S. It would appear that he doesn't own shares in G4S. This link explains what happened and the accusation has been retracted:

The majority in the country want to keep trident , more so now

POGS Tue 25-Apr-17 12:49:02

Nikki W

Could well be, an amusing response .

Goes to show a reason why it is wise to ignore or at least look for yourself , as you say , to 'merely try to balance the books."

Then of course there are BOTS who aren't even human and yet somebody somewhere will hang on to every word a machine tells them to. Crazy people out there.

NikkiW Tue 25-Apr-17 12:31:57

The fact is the tory party are slowing killing the UK for their own gain, don't expect things to get better for us underlings.

NikkiW Tue 25-Apr-17 12:21:07

POGS great description of Rupert Murdoch there ;)

POGS Tue 25-Apr-17 12:19:16

Nikki W'

"Of course there's bias every where, I'm merely trying to balance the books, we all have to do our own research and come to our own conclusions don't we.'

If only people did and did not follow like Gospel some left/right links , sometimes by possibly a fat bloke eating pizza in his pants with an agenda.

whitewave Tue 25-Apr-17 12:18:01

mary you can argue as much as you likegrin most of us on here do!!!!

maryhoffman37 Tue 25-Apr-17 12:16:00

I don't want to argue but will just say that I am in total disagreement with the OP. I believe in Socialism and think JC is the first genuinely Socialist politician we have had for a long time.

Yorkshiregel Tue 25-Apr-17 12:14:06

paddyann Trident and NATO have kept us safe for 70 years. I think we should keep it.

Is it true that Mrs May's husband's company is linked with G4S? I have never heard that before.

NikkiW Tue 25-Apr-17 12:13:35

Yep on the whole that's true, as the Conservatives constantly reminding us while they going back on their pledges. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut instinct and while I realise that the reality might be somewhat different, I'd rather have faith in someone than abstain and waste my privileged voting right.

NikkiW Tue 25-Apr-17 12:11:09

Totally agree Paddyann

Yorkshiregel Tue 25-Apr-17 12:10:28

NikkieW thank you for the Labour policies.

Good luck with those then. I always remember what Nick Clegg said when he tripled student university fees ie

'What we promise in our manifesto when out of power is not always possible to offer when we are in power'.

That applies right across the board! Manifesto promises are not worth the paper they are written on imo.
