Voting quandry

I'm a life-long Labour voter but cannot bear to suppprt Corbyn in the forthcoming election. The party will remain a shambles until it is under proper leadership and he seems to have totally lost the plot. I will not vote Conservative for many reasons and I feel betrayed by Theresa May's u-turn on Brexit, u-turn on not calling an election...there is no trust.

I will not abstain - the vote is a privilege. But for the first time I am seriously at a loss. There is no credible opposition. Locally there are no viable candidates that I feel I can endorse in order to make a point. I need to put my X in the box and it's the first time ever I've thought they are all as bad as each other.

GGM2 you say you have a long memory and never forget or forgive.......in other words you bear a grudge for a long time.I have no idea what you are saying or why, but am guessing that I once said something you didn't like.I wouldn't be proud of never forgetting or forgiving if I were you, not very Christian ( or pleasant).
However it certainly explains why you constantly 'go after' both me and certain other posters.
Life is short........too short to bear grudges over daft things.

This is why the Conservatives do well. They have a big silent vote. If you ask a Lab. voter if he voted L. he will tell you. If you ask a Tory voter the same question, he will tell you to mind your own business. It is the nature of conservatism, I suppose.

I'm not suggesting people vote for any party, other than the one they want to. Quite, norose4.

Ana Sat 06-May-17 15:39:21

Any but Conservative you said - so yes, could be UKIP. You didn't specify.

norose4 Sat 06-May-17 15:36:33

There chosen party perhaps!

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 15:16:45

Rubbish, Ana. Any but Conservative does say which parties I think people should vote for, as you well know.

ANY BUT CONSERVATIVE.

You are wrong.

Anyway, who do you suggest people vote for?

Ana Sat 06-May-17 15:00:55

I didn't say which parties you'd suggested people vote for durhamjen, as you know very well.

Is the Raving Loony Party still going? (Idle curiosity, not any sort of suggestion...)

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 14:55:03

Wrong there, Ana. I don't think I've ever suggested anyone vote for Ukippers or for the BNP, or EDL if they still exist.

Green Party, Labour Party and LibDems are all okay by me. Vote for the party to keep Conservatives out is my suggestion.
Who do you suggest people vote for?
Please give us your considered opinion.

Two posts of insults Daphne , well done, feel good?
.

Ana Sat 06-May-17 14:44:19

Well, I suppose it doesn't matter to durhamjen who you vote for as long as it's not Conservative.

daphnedill Sat 06-May-17 14:38:38

Pah! I can't be bothered with your petty grievances ab. I'm not voting Labour, but that's not because I don't like Corbyn's hat, but because I don't think Labour has good policies. Ironically, if you try reading them ab they're not very hard-left at all.

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 14:36:04

www.yourvotematters.co.uk/how-do-i-vote/voting-by-post

Just in case anyone needs to know, or pass it on to their student friends/children/grandchildren.

daphnedill Sat 06-May-17 14:35:59

Grow up ab. All I'm trying to do is point out that you're repeating the line being spun by the right-wing media. GN is a public forum. People will read what you write and be put off voting for Labour, alongside all the other anti-Corbyn rhetoric. The more they read about Corbyn's hat or his hiding behind the glass door, the less they're likely to read about all the good things which many Labour MPs do.

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 14:35:18

Jen, have you forgotten I once asked you would you choose Corbyn who cannot win an election and so the homeless would continue to be homeless or choose another leader who stood a chance of winning the election, you replied - Corbyn because you shared his principles,

I was shocked and did reply - thrn when you meet a homeless person you can say sorry you haven't a home but my principles come first

daphnedill Sat 06-May-17 14:31:44

The next step is to remind uni students to apply for a postal vote, if necessary. The timing of the GE will mean that some have already left uni, where they might be registered. Others are registered at their parents' address, so will have to apply for a postal vote.

This could be the first time they've voted, so they won't know the procedure.

Some of them have learnt their lesson after the referendum, from which many were disqualified from voting.

I'm doing my bit on social media and via my children.

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 14:29:13

Thank you for offering your permission Daphne, but I didn't ask for it or need it

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 14:28:05

Excellent post Gracesgran.

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 14:26:23

That's brilliant, daphne. 90%. That'll be some turnout if they all vote.

daphnedill Sat 06-May-17 14:25:45

You might not read dj's links and are free to ignore them, but they might interest other people. You are free to be rude enough to tell dj to shut up and people are free to to ignore you and think what they want.

Aren't we lucky to live in a relatively free country?

daphnedill Sat 06-May-17 14:23:23

Carry on harming Labour ab. It's your right.

Younger voters don't even know of the characters you admire so much. They live in the "here and now" and have their futures ahead of them.

Apparently 90% of them are now registered to vote, so let's hope they use it.

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 14:23:01

What is the question GG?

Anniebach Sat 06-May-17 14:20:20

Yes Jen, I have never told you to shut up , I read some of your links I ignore links from bloggers

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 14:15:41

" TENSIONS ran high as Labour narrowly maintained its majority at Durham County Council despite losing key cabinet members.

In an election which saw more than 30,000 votes cast, the party saw its seats plummet from 94 to 74 including several in heartland areas. "

Daphne, this is what I mean about bias. There are 125 councillors altogether, so how is this narrowly maintaining its lead, unless the journalist can't count.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 06-May-17 14:07:45

You are being totally self-indulgent Annie and I have asked why but you never answer the question. You are using your privileged life position to rant on without any thought about what the next five years will mean to others. It appears you are stamping your feet about the taking back 'your' party from the previous New Labour takeover with not a thought about what a Tory government will mean. Personally, I would let what happens happen to Labour but I just cannot help thinking about those who have already been so affected by the Tory governments and those who will be as a consequence of a landslide.

These thoughts also apply to the idea of everybody being nice. Of course, if it everyone adhered to this it would work but they just don't and they use the lack of 'niceness' to push the Tory argument or beat up upon left wing posters. You can say it happens both ways but that is it - it does happen both ways. We have the privileged lives that allow us to even think about not being where it is not 'nice'. We are not homeless nor are we starving. We have the free time to be on here.

The view of the Tories is of an economy that does not allow for the care of people in these positions and we should not be dwelling on our first world problem of not liking a particular man but should be doing all we can to stop the aggressive approach of the Tories.

durhamjen Sat 06-May-17 14:05:49

In which case, Annie, I am allowed to post all the links I like, too, whether you read them or not.
