Here we go then. I am going to outline all the information I can get hold of without the flim flam and criticism of other parties.

Other folks are more than welcome to join in - but I would ask you keep it as objective as possible without the temptation of trashing the opposition. We can do that on other threads. I always bite off more than I can chew so will appreciate help -cheers!!

This stuff has been kindly donated by another gran whose name escapes me at the moment but I will add it later.

The following can be described as a statement of intent - it isn't the manifesto, so it can be compared to the manifesto when it gets published

Economy/Business
We intend to achieve a growing stable economy

1. Ensure regional growth
2. Embrace new technology
3. Belief in globalisation
4. Live within our means
5. Sensible deficit reduction - but also productive investment in infrastructure, skills and training.
6.Fair corporate tax code - multi-nationals must pay their fair share
7. Help entrepreneurs and small business

Health
We believe in the National Health free at the point of use

1 Additional investment as a matter of urgency
2 we have called for a cross Party commission to look how we can deliver sustainable development for health care in the longer term
3 Belief in healthcare for all both physical and mental health
When in government we ensured additional investment plus the first ever treatment waiting standard for mental health
4. Support to introduce a regulated cannabis market.

2010: on raising the university tuition fee cap to £9,000

Theresa May voted for
Jeremy Corbyn voted against
Tim Farron voted for

That was from the i, varian. I'll be pleased if you are right.

durhamjen Thu 01-Jun-17 18:26:24

Yes, sorry, i got that wrong. It was Clegg who voted for in 2010, along with 28 other liberal MPs.

varian Thu 01-Jun-17 19:41:24

Tim Farron was one of the 21 LibDem MPs who voted against.

I don't know if any of you saw his interview with Andrew Neil tonight, but I though he did exceptionally well.

Andrew Neil is not only a Tory (ever since his days at Glasgow University where he was president of the Conservative Club), but also an extremely aggressive interviewer who rarely allows his interviewees to answer a question. (is he competing with Paxman?)

Tim Farron kept his cool and answered each question calmly and honestly. Well done Tim.

durhamjen Thu 01-Jun-17 19:49:22

I watched it. I thought Tim did really well, and didn't allow himself to be too browbeaten by Neil.
Did you know that Andrew Neil has an apartment in trump Tower?

varian Thu 01-Jun-17 21:10:27

I'm glad you thought Tim did well. durhamjen. I know you would have told us if you thought he'd done badly.

Even The Economist, which supported the Tories in 2015, has come out of support of the Liberal Democrats for this GE.

I've been out all night and have a message on my answerphone from the S.O. who is really upset at the way that Andrew Neil interviewed Tim Farron, so it's a relief to hear that you all think he did well and kept his cool. I'm getting sick of the way these interviewers 'interview'. Yes, I had heard of Neil having an apartment in Trump Towers, but I didn't realise he'd been president of the Conservative Club. So much for people being unbiased.

durhamjen Fri 02-Jun-17 00:43:58

I read the reports in the newspapers on the interview, and was wondering if we had seen the same interview.
Farron was good. He did not allow Neil to get the upper hand.
He kept trying to answer when Neil was interrupting all the time.
When Neil interrupted him when when he was saying about his four kids having friends at Manchester, I actually shouted at Neil to shut up!

durhamjen Fri 02-Jun-17 00:53:11

Farron talking about his father in law having dementia and the carers looking after him getting better pay stacking shelves.
Neil said they had to move on, presumably because it doesn't affect him.

I really don't want Neil taking over from Paxman. He is just so rude.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 02-Jun-17 09:24:43

Farron was great at not letting it be another Andrew Neil giving his biased opinions interview yet again.

Tim Farron is doing a live webchat on Mumsnet, at 1pm today.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_live_events/2943208-Webchat-with-Tim-Farron-leader-of-the-Liberal-Democrat-Party-on-Friday-2-June-at-1pm

Tegan2 Fri 02-Jun-17 11:03:16

The S.O. said he was shouting at the tv the whole time, telling Neil to shut up; he was really upset by it. I'll watch it on catchup with him later today.

durhamjen Fri 02-Jun-17 11:07:32

I thought Farron took it all in good humour considering the behaviour of Neil. He obviously knew what to expect.
Neil came across not just as an arrogant bully, but showing his obvious dislike for Farron.
Completely wrong for an interviewer like Neil.
I don't understand why he did it, either, as Farron is no threat to his Tories.

Former Tory candidate Azi Ahmed who stood in the 2015 GE in Rochdale has announced she has joined the Liberal Democrats.

She says "Brexit is the most important issue facing this country and I decided I simply could not campaign for a cause I did not believe in; I could no longer support a government prepared to put our nation’s future prosperity at risk by taking Britain out of the European Union without securing any deal. The Conservatives can no longer claim to be the party of business when they are prepared to leave the world’s biggest market empty-handed; the Liberal Democrats are the only party trying to remain within it."

durhamjen Fri 02-Jun-17 14:05:37

Is it good or bad that she announced it today?
It will make Rochdale have another think, I hope, close enough to the election to matter.

varian Fri 02-Jun-17 20:05:30

Vince Cable has said that the Liberal Democrats are “the real party of business”, because the hard Brexit plans of both Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn would wreck the economy.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-election-2017-lib-dems-business-labour-tories-hard-exit-eu-a7767801.html

Both TM and JC have been spineless over brexit, ignoring the damage it will cause to the British economy and caving in to the leavers, in total contradiction to their professed wishes to remain in the EU.

We cannot support or respect such spineless politicians. We must show them by voting Liberal Democrat that some of us have principles and still believe what we said we believed a year ago.

Tim Farron's webchat yesterday on Mumsnet went very well. He seemed to have done better than Jeremy Corbyn.

But what about Theresa May?

You may well ask. Does she have anything to say to Mumsnetters? Is she afraid of their questions? Possibly they're not all Tory voters so safer to ignore them.

'The sale of weapons to countries like Israel and Saudi Arabia where there is a risk they would be used in internal repression or in committing human rights violations, and whether you would support arms embargoes where there is such a risk?

We believe that the UK's current arms export control system should be tightened so that it is even more robust and transparent. We will introduce a "presumption of denial" of arms sales applications to countries with human rights concerns, introduce a new law to create a register of arms dealers in Britain, allowing better scrutiny of these secretive deals and introduce end-user certification which would certify that the buyer of arms would not sell them on to another country.

Liberal Democrats have been campaigning tirelessly for the Government to halt the sale of arms to Saudi Arabia in response to the Saudi coalition's clear breaches of International Humanitarian Law, which include the deliberate targeting of civilians. The UK must do more to ensure that the crisis is given a higher priority on the global agenda by the international community.'

From the Libdem candidate, and possibly a good reason to vote for him.
Unfortunately it could let in the Tory where I live, and I don't want to do that. I am sure you don't want me to, either, varian.

MaizieD Sun 04-Jun-17 23:05:08

Unfortunately it could let in the Tory where I live

OMG. Is it that serious, dj? I'd seen it mentioned briefly a while ago but haven't seen anything about it since.

Have you got a useful link? wink

The Question time election special programme which was scheduled for yesterday is on tonight at 9pm on BBC1.

Tim Farron and Nicola Sturgeon will be seperately questioned by an audience in Edinburgh. I wonder how balanced the audience will be.

It is to be chaired by another well known Tory, Nick Robinson. I wonder whether he will even pretend to uphold the BBC's claim of impartiality.

varian Mon 05-Jun-17 23:08:56

Did anyone watch the election leaders programme tonight. As expected Nick Robertson was as snidey as expected from a tory, but Tim Farron came over very well.

durhamjen Mon 05-Jun-17 23:15:50

I watched it. I was hoping his voice would go so he couldn't interrupt so much.

I can't understand why everyone has to be questioned separately just because May refuses to debate properly. It's giving her the advantage, and saying that she is more important than the others.
People should be asked the same questions.

Lynnieg Mon 05-Jun-17 23:25:12

I'm sorry? You have just said that you hoped that Nick Robinson, a man who has had a bronchial cancer, would lose his voice? Something that he has regained through hard work and therapy?
You really are more vicious than Mumsnet.

Jalima1108 Mon 05-Jun-17 23:29:27

I was hoping his voice would go so he couldn't interrupt so much.

shock

GracesGranMK2 Mon 05-Jun-17 23:33:32

Who are you Lynnieg - have you been on here long?

durhamjen Mon 05-Jun-17 23:34:01

His voice was going. Did you watch it? He sounded as if he had a sore throat. I didn't say I hoped he would lose his voice. It didn't stop him interrupting, did it?
I know he's had cancer. I don't think he needs your approval or I need your condemnation.

I don't know anything about Mumsnet, so that was wasted on me.
