Should I vote Conservative

Anyone got any information we can put onto this thread please?

Chewbacca Sun 30-Apr-17 14:18:04

Re my earlier post regarding negativity: instead of posting reasons as to why people should not Conservative, would it not be more proactive to post reasons as to why people should consider voting for Labour; Independent; Green etc? Do you not see that the pernicious negativity is alienating people from seeing things from your perspective? The constant, repetitive posts of what not to do does you no favours and I wonder if this depressed and negative outlook is one that courses through the Labour party and is the source of its inner division. So sad to see.

The experience of the person who wrote the blog in this link couldn’t be further from my own experience. My OH recently applied for a Blue Badge. A very quick and simple online application form was completed; a 5 minute visit to our local library and a chat with a very pleasant young woman who took his photograph; hand over a £10 note. Wait 7 days; disabled badge arrived in the post. Job done. Wish we'd known it was that easy because we'd have applied when he first had his accident 3 years ago. I'd encourage anyone who thinks that they may be eligible for a Blue Badge to apply, it really is very simple and quick.

We do that on the other threads, Chewbacca.
Perhaps you have not been reading those threads.
Unfortunately some people on GN don't have any political nous and just criticise others for having it.

Can you tell me one positive reason for voting Tory that anyone has put on here?

Anyway, the question 'should I vote conservative' is not 'why should I vote conservative.'

Should I vote conservative can elicit a negative or positive response.

Ana Sun 30-Apr-17 14:33:06

And it may as well be renamed 'Why I should not vote Conservative.

Ana Sun 30-Apr-17 14:33:50

Stll waiting for the official manifestos, before you ask.

Chewbacca Sun 30-Apr-17 14:37:47

All that you've taught me so far Durham is that the party that you so vehemently support appears to be negative, depressed and inward fighting and that's not a party that I can identify with. Why, even your link regarding Blue Badge application was full of negativity and foreboding; but it's a million miles away from my own very recent experience. I have no wish to enter into dialogue with you now about who to, or not to, vote for. You've sold me on voting for anyone other than the Labour party.

Jalima1108 Sun 30-Apr-17 14:38:07

-ditto-

Jalima1108 Sun 30-Apr-17 14:38:49

Oh, what happened there? hmm

I wanted to post -- ditto -- ! to Ana

Jalima1108 Sun 30-Apr-17 14:44:05

I've worked in schools and hospitals and all the buildings, infrastructure and resources were supplied by private companies, large and small, who were making a profit (taxable) from the public money being spent on these 'public goods'.
But these PFIs, which were sold as a Good Idea at the time, are now costing the NHS, schools etc very dearly.
PFIs financed hospitals to the tune of about £11 billion but will cost about six or seven times that to pay back over the years, money that could have been used for more staff in the NHS.

durhamjen Sun 30-Apr-17 14:54:49

Chewbacca, I am not fighting with myself.

durhamjen Sun 30-Apr-17 14:57:44

By the way, you only have one vote, Chewbacca, same as me, so it hardly matters in the big scheme of things.
Just don't go and vote Tory, as someone else said.

In fact, please can you tell those of us who are reading this thread why we should vote Tory, because nobody has so far.

Chewbacca Sun 30-Apr-17 15:10:27

Durham did you not read my post of 19.23 yesterday where I specifically stated that I was undecided as to whom I would vote for? In my later post of 10.55 today I again stated that I was well aware of the failings of the Conservative party, thus indicating further that I have not yet made a decision as to where I will cast my vote. Therefore I cannot/will not explain to you, or anyone else, as to why a vote should be cast for the Conservative party.

As you so rightly point out, we all have just 1 vote and I'd thank you not to tell me how I should use it.

GracesGranMK2 Sun 30-Apr-17 15:22:22

I can see you want to blame others for your choice not to vote for the LP Chewbacca; why not just say you don't want to vote for them. Surely one or two people on here could not sway you to that extent.

However, and more to the point, we have had Conservatives out campaigning for some days now but I have still not heard one positive thing they have said (that is not a sound bite praising some ethereal self) they will do.

That's OK; I am not expecting them to say any such thing but I can't understand why anyone would vote for them not knowing what they intend to do and having seen what they have done.

(Now you can blame me for making you vote Conservative because of my damaging negativity towards themgrin)

harrigran Sun 30-Apr-17 15:28:54

durhamjen are you secretly working for the conservative party ? Because you sure as hell are working hard to encourage people to vote for them grin

GracesGranMK2 Sun 30-Apr-17 15:40:29

What a very strange thing to say Harrigran. Was it a good lunch?

durhamjen Sun 30-Apr-17 15:42:07

You and me both, Gracesgran.

It's certainly weird that nobody can say anything positive about the Tory party even when you directly ask them to.

Anniebach Sun 30-Apr-17 15:53:05

Say anything positive about the Conservative party and wait for the firing squad ?

Ana Sun 30-Apr-17 15:54:38

Haven't seen many LibDem voters on that thread either - most of them (and the potential Tory voters on GN) probably just let you lot waffle on and get their information from other sources. i.e. more reliable and less biased ones.

durhamjen Sun 30-Apr-17 15:55:42

Proved my point.

Chewbacca Sun 30-Apr-17 15:56:32

And you Durham have proven mine.

Anniebach Sun 30-Apr-17 16:42:14

True Ana, certaintly not from far left bloggers

Beammeupscottie Sun 30-Apr-17 16:43:35

DJ. Why do you always have to be in the right. Do you ever admit to being wrong? So Politics is your religion but this zeal of the missionary is proving very tedious to others. I am sure you are a very good woman and mean well but give us all a break.

thatbags Sun 30-Apr-17 16:52:20

It,s that "stifling certitude" I mentioned on the Labour thread, beam.

MaizieD Sun 30-Apr-17 17:03:21

But these PFIs, which were sold as a Good Idea at the time, are now costing the NHS, schools etc very dearly.

Hospitals and schools were not always built by PFIs (and even PFIs put money back into the economy even if they bled inexperienced public sector managers dry). And there is vastly more expenditure in the public sector than just constructing the buildings. There are no State owned manufacturers of anything so every last item in a school, hospital, prison, police station, town hall etc. etc. is supplied by a private business of some sort.

Granny23 Sun 30-Apr-17 17:03:42

Felt I should post this for a bit of light relief and for the enlightenment of viewers south of the border who may not have had the pleasure of seeing it already.
