Yes I know it's hard to imagine that there's even more but why on earth are they going to change the voting system for electing mayors and police and crime commissioners? Oh wait a minute, is it because, surely not, that it would advantage them?

Some members have a deep and avid interest in politics, something I respect. However, there are others who have a less intense interest and who do not want to get involved in deep philosophical arguments but whose views should still be respected. I'm not saying GN should become all fuzzy and warm but I have never seen the point of insulting someone just because they disagree with a certain viewpoint. As far as I am concerned once someone resorts to insults they have lost the argument.

Elections of representatives was invented to stop people slaughtering one another physically to decide what to do next.

At first it was done publicly, but there was still bullying of voters and retaliation on those who went against how their landowner or employer instructed them to vote, so the screened voting booth was introduced.

Now we have trial by social network. Progress?

It's the ballot box on voting day that counts, not trying to justify your opinions and invoking at times extreme hostility on this or any other forum. Best to keep quiet and keep your polling card safe!!!!

It turns out the conservatives are a bit clueless about the costs involved in providing free school breakfasts instead of lunches.

schoolsweek.co.uk/conservatives-back-track-on-60m-for-primary-school-breakfasts/

I wonder if they've given a lot of thought to the impact on the working hours of the catering staff, also.

"Jane10* but DID the so called silent majority win? The figures this week show that postal votes were the highest ever,,at over 96% thats the postal votes that Ruth Davidson is on camera telling the electorate had a big majority of NO votes ,just 5 MINUTES after the polls closed ,now I'm no conspiracy theorist but even I thought it very strange she knew what those votes were BEFORE they had been counted.

7p per breakfast, according to something I've read.

They also lie about silly things.

I think the conservatives are gambling on not many people taking up the offer of free breakfasts, but if this results in lower childcare costs they may be sadly mistaken. On the today program today someone estimated could cost more like £200 million than the £60 million they've estimated.

So no new money for the NHS. It will be redistributed within the NHS.

Here's a different way of looking at the manifesto, and what led up to the election.

Even worse, FarNorth, 24 A&Es closed if May and her team get back in.

" The Conservatives cancelled the relaunch of their election campaign, as nervousness grew over the party’s evaporating lead in the opinion polls.

Faced with the likelihood of difficult questions about the Tory campaign, David Davis suddenly pulled out of a planned event in central London earlier today.

With Theresa May abroad at the G7 summit in Sicily, it meant the effective relaunch of the Tory campaign, after the three-day pause because of the Manchester bombings, was put on hold."

Weak and wobbly?

Police not happy with May+team.

celebgran Sat 27-May-17 08:20:18

Wow does anyone seriously intend to vote for corbyn? Genuinely amazed

At least Theresa may gives one confidence in her ability

Diane Abbot a bit of a joke yet it isn't funny

Anya Sat 27-May-17 08:31:04

You can be very funny sometimes celebgran ...

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 08:31:20

Taking your life in your hands on this thread celebgran grin and I agree with you completely.
They have certainly kept Abbot quiet ever since her debacle on radio with police facts and figures! Can anyone imagine her as Home Sec?

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 08:34:14

Sorry Anya but it will take more than May pulling a face with an added caption to be funnier than the thought of Corbyn McDonnell and Abbot actually running this country........actually, make that the word terrifying rather than funnier!

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 08:35:34

It's not that they are Labour, it's them.... had it been a normal Labour Shadow cabinet it would be different.

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 08:36:48

Not sure how May and cabinet will work out, but it has to be the better option for now!

Anya Sat 27-May-17 08:40:35

It's not just what she wants to take away - especially from the old and vulnerable, education, police and NHS (in addition to the cuts already imposed), it's not just that policies haven't been thought through, or that policies are uncosted Roses

It's the fact that the National Debt is higher than it has ever been.

These so-called 'austerity measures' simply aren't working. There is only one solution and that is to raise more taxes. Not what some want to hear, but you get what you pay for in this world generally.

MaizieD Sat 27-May-17 08:45:54

Confidence in her ability to do what, celebgran?
An indication of some of her 'successes' up 'til now would be helpful to us doubters.

This is an adaptation of a biblical quote. I think it's pertinent

You have to judge a tree by the fruit it bears, not the fruit that it talks about.”

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 08:49:43

I agree that the manifesto has been all wrong ( maybe for the right reasons) grin
And I also think that at some point taxes may have to go up.
What is really worrying though is the thought of Corbyn at the helm, massive amounts of even more borrowing adding to the national debt and him and McDonnell pursuing very far left policies, squeezing businesses until they burst(or leave the country) and mass nationalisation. All at a time when we have to negoiate with the EU.
It all makes the thought of Ed Miliband at the helm a delightful dream in contrast.

durhamjen Sat 27-May-17 08:56:37

So having said Mayhem is completely wrong, you would still vote for her, would you, roses?

Businesses are leaving the country because of Brexit.
We have the highest amount of borrowing ever.
You think that taxes might have to go up to rescue austerity. That's not the low tax party talking.

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 09:01:45

The manifesto may be the right choices, but politically it was either brave or stupid.
Labour have simply promised everything, there is money for all, you name it, you got it!
I think whatever mistakes they have made/will make, the Conservatives will do a better job for the country this time round.

rosesarered Sat 27-May-17 09:03:55

Some businesses may leave the country because of Brexit, because they need to be in an EU country, that doesn't mean we should increase corporation tax in order to drive other businesses out!
