This forum should be named as the heading.

durhamjen Mon 29-May-17 11:12:49

Sorry, it wasn't her first one, but it was before I even knew the thread existed.

"There are those like Jen who said she loves the cut and thrust, there are many who do not."

Is that not personal?

durhamjen Mon 29-May-17 11:10:50

Elegran, you ought to read Annie's comments. You obviously missed her first one. Being personal about me is okay, is it, but mentioning roses isn't, is that what you are saying?

GracesGranMK2 Mon 29-May-17 11:10:47

So, as you know RAR, GN will moderate any post that breaks forum rules and, within that limitation anyone can post.

As far as I am aware vociferousness is not against the rules. What would you do? Would you ban someone from putting forward their opinion because you see them as vociferous? Would you actually exclude such posters?

You seem to paint only the left of centre as being the problem and then say "The longer that the Labour Party are out of office the worse they become." Does that make for a thoughtful discussion?

We are midway through an election which looks like a landslide to the Conservatives and people feel very deeply that this - to them - would be a disaster to them, their families and the country. Do you really expect them to an opinion which has no truth (fact) to support it.

To me it sounds as if those who have had their rant on here at those they feel they can insult want people excluded if they will not conform to the sort of debate they want - otherwise what it the point of this thread?

Chewbacca Mon 29-May-17 11:10:04

Surely not Elegran! Who'd have thunk it!

Elegran Mon 29-May-17 11:07:21

dj You are starting to get personal - the other comments on here are all general.

minesaprosecco Mon 29-May-17 11:06:44

I was once told by someone working in the Civil Service that when determining policies a Conservative government is led by their ideology, whilst a Labour government is led by evidence and facts. This would appear to be reflected in these political threads, where the more left wing posters back up their opinions with research (although this is on occasion not the most reliable evidence), while the more right wing ones appear to go with their gut instincts. This is not to say all Conservative ideology is wrong, but evidence based policies do seem to me to be preferable for the good of the country as a whole. And, the name calling and personally derogatory remarks on here come from both sides. Perhaps that is one thing we could all agree we have in common - we haven't actually grown up yet? smile

Elegran Mon 29-May-17 11:05:55

You are entitled to an opinion, WW but so are those who have posted sensible comments on it.

whitewave Mon 29-May-17 11:05:48

grin what a lark!!!!

durhamjen Mon 29-May-17 11:04:59

I thought threads about threads weren't allowed. This is a thread about the whole forum.

whitewave Mon 29-May-17 11:02:51

This is one of the silliest threads I have seen for quite some time.

durhamjen Mon 29-May-17 11:01:38

You never go on political threads, do you not, roses?
Thought I had seen you on them quite often, but I must have been mistaken.

Elegran Mon 29-May-17 11:01:07

Note that in the song it is the " freedom to veer to the left or to veer to the right" A one-party government or a massive and disapproving majority of ANY colour deprives people of that freedom. A healthy opposition and a wide spectrum of political opinion prevents the kind of dictatorship that can arise when one wing of a party has the ascendancy.

We don't all have to have exactly the same angle of twist, whichever direction we twine.

rosesarered Mon 29-May-17 10:55:42

It's obvious, only Labour voters seem welcome on the political threads, ie.the vociferous left wing try and drown out any opposition. It has been this way ever since I joined GN but has been getting more and more so.Why does anyone think that non left wing posters hardly bother to post, it's not because they have nothing to say but they feel it's simply not worth their while.
The longer that the Labour Party are out of office the worse they become.

Elegran Mon 29-May-17 10:51:43

* it is their choice.* No-one has to justify their choice to another!

Youtube - Misalliance - Note the last twenty words of the song.

GracesGranMK2 Mon 29-May-17 10:46:32

May I ask? The title of this thread was "Only labour voters welcome" (no question mark I see). Does this mean you feel that GN actually excludes people who are not voting Labour - I have to admit that is not my experience - or was the intention actually to exclude those who are talking about the Labour offering?

If it is neither of those - and you cannot dictate a debate however much you may wish to do so - what exactly was the intention?

MawBroon Mon 29-May-17 10:45:07

rosesarered Duh!! Mea maxima culpa!
Being a bear gran of very little brain I feel very blush to have taken it literally!
Sorry harrigran blush

rosesarered Mon 29-May-17 10:44:49

Elegran did have something to say, and she said it well.

trisher Mon 29-May-17 10:44:32

I ask for contrary facts because I am genuinely interested in why people vote Tory Elegran I completely accept that there is a point of view that the way to run a country is to tax people very little, have little in the way of social services and support and let the fittest survive and the poorest rely on charity. This is a view that has always been behind the Tory party and is openly spoken about by people like Jacob Rees-Mogg. I don't understand why people who actually believe in a caring society and a welfare state support such a party.

MawBroon Mon 29-May-17 10:43:04

I thought elegran expressed something very valid and in a very reasonable way. No insults, no patronising, no expletives (modified/redacted/or in acronyms)
What objection could there be?
Agree t differ I suppose.
(But NOT a rant )

rosesarered Mon 29-May-17 10:42:17

Maw.... harrigran wasn't being serious! grin

phoenix Mon 29-May-17 10:42:07

I think we'll have fog by tea time.

rosesarered Mon 29-May-17 10:39:26

This is how it works trisher ....being a democracy we vote for whichever political party takes our fancy, we can talk about it on here if we wish to,but do not need to
Give anyone 'a detailed answer' as to why we vote as we do.You ask 'why people feel it is ok to support a Tory government', now that really is a bit alarming!
It is ok , simply because it is their choice.
Whenever somebody does explain their reasons they are then told 'how can you sleep at night' and similar childish things.

norose4 Mon 29-May-17 10:39:22

?Annibach,&I agree with you Roses, they don't even realise how arrogant & blinkered & closed minded they actually are. Anyone who starts a comment with Oh Didums is hardly in a position to question the intelligence of anyone else?

GracesGranMK2 Mon 29-May-17 10:38:52

Of course it is a rant. It is a rant from someone who has nothing actually to say but just want an opportunity to attack others.

This thread started as and has continued as an all out, very nasty attack on one group of people. There is no argument - just attack.

Elegran Mon 29-May-17 10:33:00

Since some left-wing posters rant at everyone, why should anyone bother speaking to them? Their position isn't going to shift, so why do they ask for contrary facts? Seems to me it is just so that they can keep their weapons sharpened and their retaliatory reflexes well honed.
