www.independent.co.uk/voices/diane-abbott-car-crash-interview-ira-terrorism-manchester-attack-trap-tories-liability-a7760471.html

As the article says, we all like a trier and none are more trying than Diane Abbott.

I agree POGS, suppose that's how politics works, she couldn't do the job of Home Secretary but filled the gap when he had so few to choose a shadow cabinet from.

Emily Thornbury will stand for the leadership when the time comes

angelab Tue 06-Jun-17 11:54:50

IMO it would be a great help to the Labour vote if JC would lean on DA to resign her post ASAP!

whitewave Tue 06-Jun-17 11:53:31

I know pogs what with the above and the classics emanating from the Tories it has been a very strange campaign.

Johnson was on this morning doing his usual bluff, and still quietly flogging his having our cake and eat it line. He doesn't seem to have learnt a single thing relating to the WTO and European trading law since he took office.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if May does reshuffle him away, he has been such an embarrassment.

Then if course there is Hammond who seems to be less than familiar with the figures contained in his budget. May already seems to have shuffled him.

All that and the unedifying spectacle of the first u- turn ever in a manifesto.

And of course we know that they fully intend to go ahead with police cuts.

You couldn't make it up.

POGS Tue 06-Jun-17 11:51:28

As a previous poster said.

" Don't look at the popular press - look at the facts and figures from a reputable source before you decide "

You can't get much more fact nor figure than listening to the horse's mouth speak can you! It is as a reputable source you can get.!

X posts POGS

rosesarered Tue 06-Jun-17 11:43:09

Loyal or not, nobody could imagine her as Home Sec!
She messed up again when asked about a report on policing (clearly had not read the report although she said that she had done.) I don't think we will be hearing from her before the GE now, it will all be down to Thornberry.

POGS Tue 06-Jun-17 11:42:02

For heavens sake Dianne Abbott is a liability not only to the Labour Party but to the country, ' IF ' Corbyn kept her in the role of Shadow Home Secretary.

Other than 'trying' to defend your party Dianne Abbott made a complete fool of herself when being interviewed over Labour Police Figures. It was embarrassing to watch.

Other than 'trying' to defend your party Dianne Abbott made a complete fool of herself when being interviewed by Andrew Made and her IRA 'leanings'.

She made another complete road crash of an interview last night when being interviewed by Murnaghan on Sky News over terrorism and Labours position, also the Lord Harris Terrorism Review which she stated she HAD read it. It was embarrassing to watch quite frankly and I am hardly surprised it has been reported on today, it was beyond terrible and so worrying because she is Shadow Home Secretary!

I would not be surprised if Dianne Abbott 'RESIGNS' as Shadow Home Secretary, possibly before the election.

I noted at one time yesterday Corbyn when asked about Dianne Abbott said 'She is our Home Affairs Spokes person' not ' She is my Shadow Home Secretary' . I may be totally wrong but I don't think she will be Home Secretary if Labour wins on Thursday after Corbyn announces a Cabinet reshuffle.

As for Emily Thornberry I think her comment re 'Food going off' is another one to add to her list of cock ups and she is potentially one of the UK's Brexit Negotiating Team if Labour wins on Thursday.

Couldn't make it up.

Anniebach Tue 06-Jun-17 11:35:13

I am concerned for her, either she is ill or her loyalty to Corbyn is being snubbed , she irritates me but I do respect the way she defended him when he became leader and the majority of MP's voted no confidence in him, she has been at his side from the start.

Riverwalk Tue 06-Jun-17 10:28:03

I suppose we should give Diane Abbot the benefit of the doubt - remember when certain journalists made snide comments about Mo Mowlam when she gained a lot of weight and wore a bad wig?

I've never liked Abbot's presentation skills on TV/radio but do remember her being much sharper and smarter than she appears to be now - thinking in particular of her arguments on the Parliamentary vote to bomb Syria in 2015.

MawBroon Tue 06-Jun-17 10:20:06

"Foot and in mouth disease"?

Anniebach Tue 06-Jun-17 10:11:05

BBC said the Labour Party had contacted them to say she was ill and Thornbury would take here place .

Perhaps she is suffering from a stress related illness or the inner circle wants her out or keeping her away from interviews so close to the election.

gillybob Tue 06-Jun-17 09:48:36

It's such a shame that she seems to be struck by illness whenever she is about to be "put on the spot". I wonder if there's a name for that condition?

MawBroon Tue 06-Jun-17 09:47:32

Or on advice from LP HQ? (Cynical, moi?)

Anniebach Tue 06-Jun-17 09:12:41

She has pulled out of Woman's Hour because of illness, Thornbury taking her place

whitewave Thu 01-Jun-17 07:55:04

It wont be happening very quickly anyway.

WTO has to get sorted first and that is rapidly becoming an absolute nightmare

Jalima1108 Wed 31-May-17 23:43:10

You mean fresh food like chilled lamb which comes over from NZ, mangoes, avocados etc from South America, I could go on.

However, I do not think that Australian farmers would welcome an influx of imported food on the supermarket shelves over there. It is already creeping in from NZ and the Far East.

Ana Wed 31-May-17 21:06:10

You can't presume anything with her. She obviously thinks none of our food produce can be exported to Australia.

Probably saw it whereever you did, Welshwife and took it as gospel.

Welshwife Wed 31-May-17 20:54:42

Presumably she was talking about fresh food which will not freeze well - I have seen this mentioned before.

Jalima1108 Wed 31-May-17 20:47:46

Emily Thornberry has come out with another gem too:

The shadow foreign secretary has claimed that Britain’s food industry will be unable to export to Australia after Brexit because products “will go off”.

Emily Thornberry was answering a question about the possible expansion of trade with Commonwealth countries after Brexit during a debate at the Royal United Services Institute, the security think tank, yesterday

“The truth is the majority of our trade takes place with the European Union,” she said. “And things like our food industry, you can’t export it to Australia — it will go off.”

Jane10 Wed 31-May-17 19:04:36

Me neither Ana!

Ana Wed 31-May-17 18:43:16

Of course they are - I'd have expected nothing else from either of you! smile

whitewave Wed 31-May-17 18:22:01

And mine of course.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 31-May-17 18:19:11

I don't think it is hedging our bets Ana. It would be unbelievable if they came from where they started and won. I would be excessively pleased with a hung parliament.

As you say I don't think the Conservatives will be forgiven and, as people have now got into the habit of contradicting their "this is what has to happen, there is no choice" attitude hopefully they will be challenged rather more than they have been.

My fingers are crossed too smile

whitewave Wed 31-May-17 18:06:35

Each day gets worse and worse. It is so heartening to see the way people are waking up to the lies.

Ana Wed 31-May-17 18:06:09

I love the way you're all hedging your bets! The tories might well win but will never be forgiven, but Corbyn's still in with a chance so fingers crossed...grin
