www.independent.co.uk/voices/diane-abbott-car-crash-interview-ira-terrorism-manchester-attack-trap-tories-liability-a7760471.html

As the article says, we all like a trier and none are more trying than Diane Abbott.

Anniebach Wed 07-Jun-17 09:00:02

Corbyn has placed Jane Brown as shadow Home Secretary whilst Abbott is ill.

End of Abbotts front bench hopes then.

whitewave Wed 07-Jun-17 09:04:06

I have noticed a change in Abbott for a long time now. I hope it isnt serious

rosesarered Wed 07-Jun-17 09:10:13

If there was a health problem with Diane Abbott wouldn't the wonderfully caring Corbyn have given her home leave two weeks or more ago, there are others who could speak in her place after all.

Anniebach Wed 07-Jun-17 09:12:07

Stress, she has been on the back benches for 28 years , the last two years very much to the fore fighting for and defending Corbyn.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 07-Jun-17 09:12:25

Whitewave I imagine she has been determined to carry on so let's hope it hasn't made things worse.

rosesarered Wed 07-Jun-17 09:13:20

Is McDonnell ill as well btw? Haven't seen or heard anything from him in ages.

rosesarered Wed 07-Jun-17 09:14:10

Or are they keeping him muffled?

Anniebach Wed 07-Jun-17 09:14:53

Not up to her to give all those interviews, she did then because she was chosen to

Jalima1108 Wed 07-Jun-17 09:38:33

Poor woman.

Whatever anyone's thoughts on Diane, I hope it is nothing serious.
Away from politics, I am sure some of these politicians get on better with each other than we realise. I used to enjoy the Abbott and Portillo 'double act' when I watched it very occasionally,.

Anniebach Wed 07-Jun-17 09:44:50

Corbyn holds centre stage at momentum staged events, crowds turn up and it makes good tv . After the election McDonald will be back on tv and radio to discuss politics not rainbows

angelab Wed 07-Jun-17 10:09:09

McDonnell

Tegan2 Wed 07-Jun-17 10:26:20

Sorry to hear she's ill but relieved in that she was 'the weakest link'.

Anniebach Wed 07-Jun-17 10:30:03

She was the strongest link when he took on the leadership

MaizieD Wed 07-Jun-17 10:42:00

It's just been announced that Diane Abbott is giving up the Shadow HS job because of ill heath.

She will be replaced by Lyn Brown, who currently serves as the party's the shadow policing minister.

There was an article in the i yesterday expressing the opinion that DA was being bullied by the media, the opposition - everyone. Boris Johnson was asked by a female journalist yesterday not to keep mentioning DA in a derogatory fashion. I feel rather sorry for her as I have been guilty of doing her down on many occasions. Jeremy Corbyn has done well to stand by her as long as he has. I'm glad she's resigned but I wish her well.

MaizieD Wed 07-Jun-17 11:10:28

I don't think she's resigned. I believe it's a 'temporary stand down'.

There seems to be a bit of a conflict of understandings around this as, apparently, she was reported to be telling people only yesterday that her health was absolutely fine. Enforced suspension?

Rigby46 Wed 07-Jun-17 11:15:28

We have no idea of the truth - there are vested interests on both sides that have an interest in spinning to suit their own narrative. I'm just pleased that she has stood down and hopefully will be left alone for a while to deal with whatever her problems are.

NotTooOld Wed 07-Jun-17 12:02:18

I used to enjoy watching her with Portillo on that late programme on a Thursday evening after Question Time. I bet Portillo liked it, too, as she made him look ultra intelligent, which he may well be, I don't know. Quite like him anyway. I wonder if DA will go the same way as Ann Widdicombe - Strictly anyone?

MawBroon Wed 07-Jun-17 12:18:15

Shame it had to come to this as DA's reputation has now suffered. If it is "just " mental or physical fatigue or indeed something more serious, , her Election agent should have been more vigilant. That is part of their job.

Anniebach Wed 07-Jun-17 12:21:15

She has not stood down, she has been sacked

Rigby46 Wed 07-Jun-17 12:33:30

Oh just leave her alone and give her some dignity - we don't know what the truth is so try and be a human being, it wouldn't hurt you.

Katek Wed 07-Jun-17 12:40:55

Gardening leave.....??

Anniebach Wed 07-Jun-17 12:45:51

Rigsby, if your - try and be human was aimed at me, I am defending Abbott, why should I not? I think her treatment by her bestie friend is a disgrace , all that loyalty thrown back at her.

Rigby46 Wed 07-Jun-17 12:46:10

Oh FFS - what is with some of you? She's been humiliated, she's gone, her reputation has suffered - why can't you just leave it alone now? Especially as we don't know the details of her health problems.

Rigby46 Wed 07-Jun-17 12:47:31

ab why then did you have to challenge the 'stood down' and used the very negative 'sacked'? You've a funny way of being supportive
