As the article says, we all like a trier and none are more trying than Diane Abbott.

You are as usual using anything to criticise JC and you are prepared to use what may be a very ill woman as part of your vendetta.

Anniebach Wed 07-Jun-17 12:49:48

We do know there has been concern for some time but she was still thrown to the pack. Then she was used to ridicule her party , only then did they act. To save themselves not her.

Rigby46 Wed 07-Jun-17 12:52:44

<sigh>

sunseeker Wed 07-Jun-17 12:55:35

I don't have much time for DA but if she is ill then I think she should be allowed to recover in peace. We none of us know what the problem is and I think second guessing doesn't help at all. She has stopped campaigning and we need to wait and see whether her illness, whatever it is, prevents her from continuing her poitical career.

MawBroon Wed 07-Jun-17 12:58:59

rigby
Nobody is having a go at DA or JC except in an oblique way as leader of the Labour Party and therefore her "boss"
However anybody who so wants is more than entitled to comment on the conduct of the campaign and the responsibilities of those leading it or responsible for its administration. In fact recent the comments show more sympathy for DA now that it is clear there is something wrong, not just incompetence.
So please calm down , we still enjoy freedom of speech don't we?

Anniebach Wed 07-Jun-17 13:22:26

Freedom of speech on this forum belongs only to Corbynites , been so for some time, you can tell them by their decent, humane, tolerant posts

Rigby46 Wed 07-Jun-17 13:41:23

FFS - what on earth are you going on about free speech - you post something, I disagree and post that, I think what you post is unfair I post that, you disagree and post that - I love the argument that if you criticise a poster for saying something, you are against free speech. Pathetic

Rigby46 Wed 07-Jun-17 13:44:10

MB if you think abs criticisms of JC are oblique, you are using a different dictionary from me. She will turn anything, anything into a criticism of him and I find it not only boring and tedious but in this case, I found it quite unpleasant

durhamjen Wed 07-Jun-17 20:09:12

Wow! Jack Monroe on Diane Abbott.

cookingonabootstrap.com/2017/06/07/we-need-to-talk-about-diane-abbott-now-explicit-content/

Don't read if you are easily offended.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 07-Jun-17 20:37:05

I just wish everyone would read it Jen. Sadly those who should probably will not. It's a brilliant piece with her own insights and a reflection of Dianne Abbotts huge achievements.

Well done Jack Monroe.

durhamjen Wed 07-Jun-17 20:40:07

Agreed, GracesGran, and they'll carry on sneering at Diane Abbott.

I must admit, I was quite shocked at what she has had to put up with.

NotTooOld Wed 07-Jun-17 20:40:58

Thanks for the link, dj. I've read it. I'm not easily offended but the tweets are truly disgusting. Poor woman.

whitewave Wed 07-Jun-17 20:42:38

Good stuff. I was looking at some utube stuff when she was younger and in more recent times. I think she is very poorly.

mostlyharmless Wed 07-Jun-17 21:49:59

I saw the Jack Monroe article earlier today. Thought it might be too strong for Gransnet but a good insight into Diane Abbott's life and the bullying she gets.
Hope she recovers soon.

Jalima1108 Wed 07-Jun-17 22:04:05

Well, she won't be doing Strictly or anything else like that because she may not be Shadow Home Secretary (Home Secretary as ome were hoping) but she is still standing for election as an MP in her constituency.
She has not stood down from politics as far as I am aware.

Jalima1108 Wed 07-Jun-17 22:04:27

ome?
some

durhamjen Wed 07-Jun-17 22:13:16

Just like we thought, GracesGran.

durhamjen Wed 07-Jun-17 22:15:12

I didn't think people could get sacked just for being ill.
Bad timing, that's all. No reason for her to stand down, whatever the colour of your politics. That's what unions have gained for us, the workers.

Rigby46 Wed 07-Jun-17 22:16:43

dj thanks for the link and mostly please don't think that things are too strong for GN - some posters have dished it out negatively on here re DA without any idea at all of what she has put up with over the years - and with no respect or understanding of what it must have been like to be a black working class young woman going to Cambridge in the 70s. This link should be required reading for all those who took a cheap shot at her. And how can those tweets offend us? We weren't the recipients - what they should do is make us bloody mad and ashamed of those disgusting excuses for human beings who tweeted them. Racism is alive and well in this glorious country of ours.

Anniebach Wed 07-Jun-17 22:23:12

Any member of the cabinet or shadow cabinet can be remove from their position, they are still an MP's. The thought of unions stepping in every time a cabinet minister is remove is so funny,

durhamjen Wed 07-Jun-17 22:24:17

Thanks, Rigby. I agree with everything you say.
I was worried that someone might ask HQ to remove it because of the content, which is why I mentioned it.

Jalima1108 Wed 07-Jun-17 22:26:33

um, is it me or is Parliament dissolved and they are no longer MPs?

When Parliament is dissolved, every seat in the House of Commons becomes vacant. All business in the House comes to an end. There are no Members of Parliament. MPs revert to being members of the public and lose privileges associated with being a Member of Parliament.

merlotgran Wed 07-Jun-17 22:27:13

For heaven's sake, dj. We're not all pearl clutchers. Why on earth would HQ be asked to remove it?

Jalima1108 Wed 07-Jun-17 22:28:27

well, if it's on the internet for everyone to see I have no idea why it should be removed.

Jalima1108 Wed 07-Jun-17 22:30:45

Wherever it was first posted should have removed it then it would not still be circulating - is that Twitter?
So glad I don't twit.
