My prediction( not hope) is for TM to have about a 40/50 overall majority. I reserve the right to change this prediction up to the announcement of the exit poll. Anybody else have a prediction?

I'm thinking a rainbow disappears quicker than a van on a motorway, windy or not

Ginny42 Wed 07-Jun-17 00:19:00

That's where the money tree is! It's in off-shore bank accounts and the accounts of those companies not paying tax in this country whilst making vast profits here.

durhamjen Tue 06-Jun-17 23:33:44

Who do you want to win?

May whose van with her strong and stable message blew over on the motorway,

or Corbyn who creates rainbows.

daphnedill Tue 06-Jun-17 23:06:46

I read about that dj. Many of the voters affected are students.

Wealth creates jobs. Don't be envious

Who on earth is being envious? That is the 'trickle down' theory which fuels tax cuts for the rich and for business and which has failed spectacularly to have worked. Far from investing in this country wealth has mostly gone flying off to tax havens where it grows more and more without contributing to the country which has enabled it to accumulate more wealth.

A country's economy cannot be a totally closed system, money will always trickle out in one way or another but in a well regulated economy companies which have benefited from all the services the state provides (education, health, infrastructure, waste disposal, policing etc.) helps to pay for those services by way of its taxes. They also pay tax on profits made from sales to the country's population; they don't cook their books in such a way as to make it look as though they have made no profit. In a well regulated economy money mostly stays in the country and circulates to the benefit of all.

Major companies cheating the state of the payment (i.e tax) it should get for the provision of services and paying minimal wages for crummy jobs are not at all admirable or enviable. They are despicable.

dizzygran; my daughter started teaching during the Blair years and he did fulfil his promise. However, although she loves teaching, she doesn't feel that she can do so for much longer because of cutbacks [and also ridiculous ideas that Gove came up with when he was education secretary]. Mind you, she probably won't have to make the decision to leave as she will probably be one of the teachers that will be 'let go' by this government in the near future....

I predict that Tories will win in these seats, where postal votes have gone missing.

voxpoliticalonline.com/2017/06/06/who-expected-postal-votes-to-go-missing-if-it-seemed-the-tories-were-likely-to-lose/

The company responsible is owned by Peter Lilley. Remember him, ex-Tory MP?

durhamjen Tue 06-Jun-17 22:12:01

You've been listening to the wrong people about the IRA, too. May voted against anti-terror legislation, although you wouldn't think so now.

daphnedill Tue 06-Jun-17 22:09:37

It's also true that jobs create wealth.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jun/06/theresa-may-rip-up-human-rights-laws-impede-new-terror-legislation

You prefer this, do you, charjoy, someone who wants to get rid of all our human rights, rights that have been fought for over generations?

durhamjen Tue 06-Jun-17 22:05:53

What are you on, charjoy? Whatever it is, I don't want any if it gives you such illusions.

charjoy Tue 06-Jun-17 22:00:32

Wealth creates jobs. Don't be envious. Give Teresa May a chance. She will help the poor and needy - she has a heart.

She doesn't idolize the IRA. Remember, many of our soldiers lost their lives in Ireland - Jeremy Corbyn went along with the IRA terrorist activities. A leopard doesn't change its spots!- Well, only when there's a chance of being a prime minister!

MaizieD Tue 06-Jun-17 18:13:10

MaizieD I do and we will be paying.

We will be paying whoever wins but in the case of Labour we will be paying for money to be circulated in the economy; for better wages, better NHS & Education, better security and increased business activity.

In the case of the tories we'll be paying for our money to be spirited out of the country into tax havens, benefitting no-one but the already wealthy.

I know which I prefer.

angelab Tue 06-Jun-17 13:51:54

This might be a useful guide to manifestos:

whitewave Tue 06-Jun-17 12:53:34

The more I think about the next 5 years the more it seems to me that it would be sensible for the Tories take the fallout, as there is no way that Brexit will be a roaring success rather the biggest car crash ever, and I'm not sure that any other political party should be forced to deal with something of the Tories making.

Once the economy has tanked as it surely will, the NHS and education system is ruined, will ensure that the Tories are out for a generation at least.

varian Tue 06-Jun-17 11:19:49

The Liberal Democrat manifesto has been fully costed and judged to be the best by The Economist magazine.

I predict that this will not be enough to ensure the LibDems win, there are not enough economically literate voters.

It is outrageous that the nasty party is so sure of a win they didn't even bother to cost their manifesto, but we know who will end up paying for it -it won't be the bankers or billionaire tax exile newspaper proprietors.

Anya Tue 06-Jun-17 10:58:58

That was probably too cryptic.......

Q1. Which manifesto is fully costed?
A. Labour. B. Conservative C. Both D. Neither

Q2. What is suffrage (not suffers get!) ?
A. The right to vote. B. A type of surf board. C. A member of the Brassica family
D. Pain

Anya Tue 06-Jun-17 10:54:42

Obviously some haven't actually read the manifestos. One is actually costed, the other is not.

Maizie I'm beginning to rethink universal suffers get ????

adaunas Tue 06-Jun-17 10:47:27

MaizieD I do and we will be paying.

MaizieD Mon 05-Jun-17 23:04:04

Corbyn hands out lots of sweeties but they have to be paid for and it will be you and me that will be paying.

Oh dear. I do wish people had a grasp of basic economics.

charjoy Mon 05-Jun-17 22:55:23

It must be Teresa May with a good majority. If Corbyn gets in the country will go to the dogs. Even Alan Sugar who has always voted Labour says he is going to vote conservative this time. Corbyn hands out lots of sweeties but they have to be paid for and it will be you and me that will be paying. The unions will take over and the country will come to a standstill. Give Teresa May the vote if only to get us through Brexit. She has a mammoth task ahead of her but she will get a much better deal with the EU than Jeremy Corbyn.

I love option three.

Nandalot Mon 05-Jun-17 22:37:04

Yes, I was teaching then too, and provision did improve.
I think the Conservatives will get in with a comfortable majority. They have a solid voting base who will turn out especially with all the polls showing Labour on the rise. This will motivate them. Also the press is so dominated by right wing owners. I hope I am wrong.

PS. She denied that the number of police officers had been cut since 2010.
