Oh by NOW it is the thread for it, it was just rather quick when the news first came out. GG2 said so then and I said so a bit later - no difference of opinion on that then.

I did listen. People commented pages ago Jalima that News could just as easily become political as it often has a political angle. I suggested we had a 'Condolences' Forum topic with a comment by GNHQ that it must only be condolences. No reply from Elegran who just went on telling people what to do.

I like listening. I like learning. If you can suggest a practical answer - which doesn't involve one GNetter deciding what is right or wrong for another GNetter you will have solved the issue. Otherwise we haven't solved it but some people have very arrogantly decided they, and only they, know what is best for the rest of us.

Listening goes two ways.

That is not what has been said Jalima. What some on here have said is the some on here can decide when and whether we may look at the political side of this and that by deciding for ourselves we are wrong. And they have gone on and on saying this to prove that they and only they are right.

I have suggested a way of keeping condolences apart from politics - no reply. As for your comment suggesting rather "OTT" comments, when someone won't listen to the opinions of others - mine is that we must all choose the time when we make this political - then you sometimes have to shout. I could have said that Elegran had not got her listening ears on as I would to one of the GSs but she might think I was demeaning her.

Attempt to close down political debate was certainly political under Hitler and is, today, in Turkey. You are being extremely political by trying to close down the argument Elegran - and not in a way many would see as a good one.

Good God, is there no thread on GN that cannot be taken over by petty electoral politics.

I suppose if someone wants their thread to be non political then maybe they could try starting the thread in chat or something? The heading will make it clear what it is about.

Otherwise people like me who are politically minded will post I suppose.

Perhaps there should be two separate forum headings - after all, there could be plenty of news which may not be political but is worthy of discussion without anyone taking political sides on the topic in question.
Should a thread about a horrific attack be taken over by politics? I am not so sure about that, perhaps a separate thread about the implications of the attacks would be the right place for political discussion.

A few hours of not discussing politics isn't going to bring the dead back or heal the ones who have been injured. But those few hours might just be the difference in bringing in a government that will get to the root of why this is all happening. This happened on this governments watch and they must be held accountable for it. We can't stop the world every time something awful happens because it is now [sadly]happening all the time. And something needs to be done. What's being done at the moment just isn't working. Don't assume that people like me who are commenting on these threads aren't doing so whilst shedding tears at the same time.

You did ask for the debate to stop or not even be allowed to start on a thread about a terrorist incident Elegran - and you are still wanting your opinion to be agreed with, you still want to be told you are right when there is no right or wrong. Deciding when to start talking about the political aspect of this will be for each person to decide for themselves.

I chose to comment on my sadness about the horrible attack right at the beginning of the thread, around the eighth post, and by that time someone had ALREADY made an anti-corbyn post. I commented then that is was a little out of place but it didn't stop. If you are not aware you are being political, as you appear not to be, it may be that you are actually encouraging threads to move to the political.

No one is being shouted down. That sounds just like a small child who cannot win an argument. I just disagree with you and have been happy to provide an argument that shows why I think you are wrong to try and impose your views. That is how discussion works. You are really on a hiding to nothing on a forum if you always believe your opinions are a fact just because they are YOUR opinions and if it is not a fact then we may each make up our own minds without others telling us when a subject should have it political aspects discussed.

I didn't ask you to stop your debating, just to give the bodies a brief time to cool. Would you like the sound of sneers and insults about differing party policies to accompany your tears for your own bereavement?

There has been hardly a minute gone by without argument, shouting down and downright bullying of anyone who dares not to worship at the same shrine. A few hours of self-restraint wouldn't have gagged anyone's human rights. Then you could have let rip again. Unto all things there is a season.
