Watching BBC News now. A white van has ploughed into people on London Bridge, shootings and stabbings at Borough Market.

It's still ongoing.

Earlier my DP was bemoaning the fact that May and Corbyn appeared to be using the latest attack to score political points. AS posters on here have argued earlier today I don't think that you can divorce this from the political dimension. These attacks haven't come out of nowhere.

This may be a totally unacceptable thing to say in some people's eyes but I feel that if one of my family had been killed in one of the recent terrorist attacks I would be very angry at the person who cut our police force, despite warnings about loss of security, to the extent that grass roots intelligence could not be gathered and warnings about extremist tendencies in individuals could not be followed up.

whitewave Mon 05-Jun-17 13:25:31

maizie she got an absolute mauling by the press today. They identified so much that she'd got wrong. She definately holds some responsibility for the deaths.

rosesarered Mon 05-Jun-17 13:27:47

She holds no responsibility for the deaths! Did Tony Blair have a responsibility for the July tube and bus bombings? No he did not.

rosesarered Mon 05-Jun-17 13:28:50

Some posters will now say anything at all in their hope to have Corbyn ( God help us!) as PM.

Ana Mon 05-Jun-17 13:29:57

What press is this? Surely not those right-wing rags owned by pornographers and the like...?

whitewave Mon 05-Jun-17 13:32:02

Of course she does, and the media understood that fact this morning. Who cut police numbers, who refused to listen to the police when they tried to explain the consequences of the cuts. Who relaxed border controls and allowed untold people to enter unheeded? Who cut the armed police numbers. Who cut the dog handlers

I could go on.

Of course she holds some responsibility -she wasHome Secreatary for 6 years and a pathetic job she made of it.

whitewave Mon 05-Jun-17 13:33:22

ana unless you have an intelligent remark to say I suggest you butt out

And it isn't posters on here it is the world's press that I am talking about

Tegan2 Mon 05-Jun-17 13:36:29

I think the tube and bus bombings came completely out of the blue; as I've said before all historic events need to be viewed from the time they happened not retrospectively [although, obviously, lessons need to be learned from them].

Ana Mon 05-Jun-17 13:37:11

And I suggest that I can post whereever I like, whitewave. Who d'you think you are, the Thread Police?

whitewave Mon 05-Jun-17 13:39:00

That's rich coming from you ana

POGS Mon 05-Jun-17 13:42:41

Agree with Elegran and Monica.

I have commented before how Gransnet has changed since I first joined .

There were some right old ding dongs but hell the 'activism' that has taken over over recent years has made it almost toxic at times.

rosesarered Mon 05-Jun-17 13:43:48

Who wanted to cut the police numbers by another 10% just two years ago,
Corbyn, that's who! Shortly after he became Leader. It was voted down and budgets were not reduced further.

whitewave Mon 05-Jun-17 13:49:07

The clue is in the title rose Home Secretary. Are you saying that a minister should not be held responsible. It is called cause and affect.

whitewave Mon 05-Jun-17 13:50:28

pogs activism? Is that shorthand for "I am cross because they don't agree with me"?

rosesarered Mon 05-Jun-17 13:55:18

No, ww it means the sort of activism we see every day, not merely stating political views and hopes but aggressive angry posts vilifying anyone who doesn't go along with Socialist/Marxist views. So even anniebach a Labour supporter is
Chivvied from pillar to post because she sees through Corbyn and McDonnell.

whitewave Mon 05-Jun-17 14:05:10

Socialist/marxistgrin what an utterly ridiculous remark. If you can't stand the heat etc,

POGS Mon 05-Jun-17 14:06:18

WW

pogs activism? Is that shorthand for "I am cross because they don't agree with me"?

No it means what it says.!

petra Mon 05-Jun-17 14:08:38

It's a sad state of affairs when Corbyn has had to muzzle his future ( in his dreams ) Home Secretary. Can anyone imagine her Chairing a Cobra meeting.

rosesarered Mon 05-Jun-17 14:09:07

I can stand the heat.sunshine

petra Mon 05-Jun-17 14:11:25

I'm surprised that no one has done a cartoon in the 'Where's Wally' style.

whitewave Mon 05-Jun-17 14:12:52

pogs what do you mean by activism then? Do you mean the heated debates that go in which you seem more than willing to participate.

whitewave Mon 05-Jun-17 14:14:49

Maybot doesn't have just one wally though -she has a number that she has disappeared in this election campaign almost too numerous to mention, the gaffs aren't being made by her minions though they are being made by her

GracesGranMK2 Mon 05-Jun-17 14:25:33

Dear Gracegran2. In case you haven't noticed, I have not MADE any "political" (i.e. party political) comments at all.

This is one of the biggest problems on here. People think they are being apolitical when they are just not.

These remarks are all 'political' remarks. If you challenge people right to make any political remark you are being political.

Good God, is there no thread on GN that cannot be taken over by petty electoral politics.

not yet another bitterly divisive rant.

It would be more appropriate to rein in the surges of adrenaline brought on by partisan campaigning

May recieved much criticism for immediately using a terrorist attack for a party political broadcast. The same applies to anyone else.

I am sure that ISIS will be rubbing their hands with glee at the sight of it. Just what they are aiming for. Disruption, disharmony, division. THEY don't care who is elected.

Attempt to close down political debate was certainly political under Hitler and is, today, in Turkey. You are being extremely political by trying to close down the argument Elegran - and not in a way many would see as a good one.

rosesarered Mon 05-Jun-17 14:48:28

The first mention of Hitler on the thread! It's like a drinking game ( or Snap!)we all shout Hitler! When he is named.Stalin or Mussolini will also be counted.

Have you a source for that, roses? (I have searched but I can't find anything) It's certainly not what he was saying in November 2015
