Chief Executive has resigned - SJ told him to go he says. Good. Now let's see the leader do the honourable thing.

If the banks had cancelled a regular payment without authority, they would have been censured (rightly)

durhamjen Sat 01-Jul-17 15:26:09

No, be fair, whitewave, one line and one word.

durhamjen Sat 01-Jul-17 15:27:29

Labour will give back the jobs to fire fighters and police who have been made redundant, and will stop the pay cap.

Sounds reasonable to me.
As does ensuring equal pay for women.

Elegran Sat 01-Jul-17 15:27:32

Was it reimbursed when the council realised it had been paid?

whitewave Sat 01-Jul-17 15:28:59

Not yet according to the lady. I mean she might be incredibly poor and I very much doubt that she isn't the only one.

Ana Sat 01-Jul-17 15:31:18

You are so not funny whitewave. And tacking that silly grin on to any post you consider to be so is pathetic.

But carry on being unpleasant - I think we're all used to it now.

durhamjen Sat 01-Jul-17 15:32:45

Direct debits are a two way transaction.
The person who gets the money takes it out of your bank. They could have stopped it. Surely you know that, Elegran.
It was the council taking the money, the council who knew the block had burnt down, who knew who was homeless.

People who lost their homes lost their bank cards, their bank statements, etc.
The woman who found out did so because she had been given new bank cards and statements from her bank.
Anyone who has not got that far yet will not know.
I hope someone is collating the information.

durhamjen Sat 01-Jul-17 15:34:19

There you go again, Ana, showing your caring side.

Ana Sat 01-Jul-17 15:35:21

Yes, and we all know who that is - one of your own cronies.

Ana Sat 01-Jul-17 15:36:25

Don't be silly durhamjen. Why on earth should I care about a couple of bullies?

Elegran Sat 01-Jul-17 15:46:34

Did she contact the bank and/or the housing office and ask them to fix it as soon as she realised? The computer wouldn't associate her account with the fire - it would be an automatic payment with no human beings involved, same with the housing office, but banks are very good at sorting things out, given the chance.

I am sure that the reaction will be that she shouldn't have to ask someone to fix it, but neither the bank nor the people in the housing office are psychic.

I am also sure that someone will tell me, too, that I am "excusing the Tory" but how do you know that the person employed to administer the receipt of rents is a Tory? Or the person overseeing Direct Debits?

petra Sat 01-Jul-17 15:52:02

I sometimes find that one word or one sentence can convey more meaning than ramblings that mean diddly squat.

durhamjen Sat 01-Jul-17 16:00:58

The council PROMISED the residents that they wouldn't collect rent until they had been properly rehoused.
I am sure some of you will have an excuse for that.

Sorry, Elegran, but that is really crass. Neither the bank nor the people in the housing office need to be psychic.
They just need to do what they said they would.
You pay rent for a house or flat. You pay rent in Grenfell House?
The word Grenfell gets picked up. They stop the collection.
Have you never had problems with a direct debit?
The person collecting it has to collect it, whatever it is for. It is not the bank sending it regardless.
I presume you can see where I am coming from?

whitewave Sat 01-Jul-17 16:06:04

The council have behaved appallingly, I think almost everyone who I've seen talking about the situation agrees with that, except the snooty female councillor. She needs the sack.

Elegran Sat 01-Jul-17 16:12:34

Fair enough, they promised then didn't cancel it.

I am not sure where crassness comes into it? Crass would have been saying something against the tenant. You do like taking the worst possible view of posters' motives, don't you?

durhamjen Sat 01-Jul-17 16:17:16

Saying neither the bank nor the people in the housing office are psychic is crass to me.
We obviously have different definitions of crassness. Mine is insensitive. What's yours?
You often look at posters motives in a bad way as far as I can see, too.
What was your motive behind sticking up for the councillor?

rosesarered Sat 01-Jul-17 16:20:12

As far as I can see, both Durhamj and ww are 'owning* this thread in much the same way that a cat marks it's territory.......only angry views are acceptable and ones which concur with their own.

Elegran Sat 01-Jul-17 16:24:53

Remind me, dj. Which councillor did I stick up for? I must be losing my memory, I can't remember mentioning a councillor.

grumppa Sat 01-Jul-17 16:36:43

What's the rent collection situation of the Camden Council tenants who complied with the Council's request to move out?

durhamjen Sat 01-Jul-17 16:40:04

No you stuck up for the whole bloody housing department, and the bank.
Do carry on being insensitive, Elegran.
Details like that really matter to someone who has been charged rent for a burnt down home, after all.

Elegran Sat 01-Jul-17 16:41:04

An interesting question, grummpa They too are without their homes, through no fault of their own.

durhamjen Sat 01-Jul-17 16:45:19

Nobody owns a thread, roses. Another of your silly statements.
