Chief Executive has resigned - SJ told him to go he says. Good. Now let's see the leader do the honourable thing.

Do you never think in words Whitewave? I was listening to a volenteer last night and just wondered who she and many of the volenteers who give interviews are

whitewave Wed 05-Jul-17 09:33:31

Oh! Thanks that makes it more clear to me if little brain!

I always think in wordssmile

Anniebach Wed 05-Jul-17 09:37:42

I meant type your thoughts because you cannot soeak them, had your fix for today Whitewave

whitewave Wed 05-Jul-17 10:09:53

It was a gentle joke annie please accept it in the spirit it was intended.

trisher Wed 05-Jul-17 10:19:04

GGMK2 you said 'I do not believe these enquiries are the place for the victims/survivors to set the remit; they are the place for them to find the truths and where the outcomes may set the framework for the politicians to fight for change.'
If however the victims do not have confidence in the inquiry, have asked for a reasonable amount of input and are ignored are they then likely to believe the conclusions of a report made by someone they distrust? Especially given the establishment's record of inadequacies and cover ups. And if they are not satisfied with the inquiry will there then be a long period of campaigning and further inquiries as has already happened?

Anniebach Wed 05-Jul-17 10:30:47

What reasonable amount of input have they asked for? All I hear are experts, volenteers, politicians voicing their views. One man who was in the tower block spoke this morning that the number of dead has not given, no matter that it has not yet been possible to give a number , no one knows how many were in the tower block that night, how many are missing because they have not come forward

GracesGranMK2 Wed 05-Jul-17 10:39:30

I am perhaps not so suspicious of the people speaking for the victims but I would like them and their reason for being interviewed as a spokesperson of the Glenfell Tower residents to be clarified each time. I am more suspicious of lazy journalism that seeks those who will speak - even if they are not those who lived in the tower - and often seek the most contentious points of view.

I think the rest of George Monbiot's article deserves to be read.
The Red Tape Initative was being convened when Grenfell Tower was still burning. How insensitive was that?

GG, I so agree with you,

trisher Wed 05-Jul-17 11:01:15

Read the rest of the posts Annie reasonable request by spokesperson for Justice 4 Grenfell posted earlier.
The Justice 4 Grenfell group have an on-line presence and have been offered support by the Hillsborough Campaign- oh sorry those people are just the relatives and friends of those who died at Hillsborough- so just volunteers- no rights at all then. Shouldn't be permitted to speak and can't know what happened!!!???? Do some people not follow events and learn from them?

Anniebach Wed 05-Jul-17 11:11:45

Do only some people have a right to post their opinions Trisher ?

durhamjen Wed 05-Jul-17 11:35:01

"The Red Tape Initiative, gruesome spectre that it is, continues its work. It is one of many such schemes set up in recent decades, by Conservatives and New Labour. Recent examples are David Cameron’s Star Chamber (yes, that really was the name he gave it), in which ministers were interrogated by a panel of corporate executives; and the Cutting Red Tape programme, which boasts that “businesses with good records have had fire safety inspections reduced from six hours to 45 minutes”.
Neoliberalism – the ideology at the root of all our problems

One of the results of this bonfire of regulation is the government’s repeal in 2012 of the fire prevention measures in the London Building Act. Had they remained in place, the Grenfell fire is unlikely to have risen up the tower. This assault on public protections is just one element of the compound disaster that neoliberalism –promoted by opaquely funded groups such as Policy Exchange –has imposed on Britain since 1979. Its central purpose is not just to empower corporations and the very rich, but actively to disempower everyone else, through austerity, outsourcing and privatisation.

An inquiry that failed to investigate such possible causes would be a farce. It would do nothing to prevent any similar catastrophes from recurring. It would do nothing to stop the rich from destroying other people’s protections, as the Red Tape Initiative threatens to do."

I agree with this.

trisher Wed 05-Jul-17 11:44:44

Of course you can post an opinion Annie I was just trying to clarify a few things for you. Such as- who are these people?
justice4grenfell.org
And point out that similar questions -who are they? What right have they to speak? were probably asked of the Hillsborough Campaign. It took them over 25 years to get justice. I would have thought lessons would have been learned from what happened, but apparently not.

Anniebach Wed 05-Jul-17 12:02:22

Trisher, I listed voices I HEAR, politicians, Unknown volenteers, experts , if I missed
The request posted here it could because it was a link, I tend to avoid most links , my choice

durhamjen Wed 05-Jul-17 12:21:57

If you want to listen to or watch real people affected, watch Victoria Derbyshire.
Find out why they are not accepting out of area homes, why they mistrust those in charge.
Or look at www.justice4grenfell.org

There are real people on there.

trisher Wed 05-Jul-17 13:56:47

First post wasn't a ink Annie it was the words of the spokesperson for Justice4 Grenfell. It seems you only ever listen to things that reinforce your own views wether it is politicians or real people speaking.

whitewave Wed 05-Jul-17 13:57:28

Mombiot sure it will be a stitch up

durhamjen Wed 05-Jul-17 14:03:16

This is why volunteers are important.

Please watch the video.

www.indy100.com/article/everyone-should-watch-this-video-from-the-grenfell-tower-meeting-7823116

Anniebach Wed 05-Jul-17 14:16:40

Wrong trisher,I listen to all views with the exception of conspiracy theories

durhamjen Wed 05-Jul-17 14:22:20

Grenfell Tower statement in the commons at the moment.
Only 50 MPs seem to think it's important enough to stay and take part.

The video on the indy link is not a conspiracy theory. It's a video from the meeting yesterday.

As a matter of interest, Annie, until you've listened to it, how do you know what is a conspiracy theory and what isn't?

Jalima1108 Wed 05-Jul-17 14:26:02

Only 50 MPs seem to think it's important enough to stay and take part.
Never ceases to amaze me when I see the Commons half empty or sometimes just a handful of MPs - I know they have other matters to attend to but surely if something is important they could find the time to be there.

I hope they are not having a lengthy lunch.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 05-Jul-17 14:28:12

It appears the judge has listened to Jeremy (he hasn't called for the judge to stand down) and is reaching out to the residents.

Rigby46 Wed 05-Jul-17 15:06:30

It's sounding hopeful with the judge - he seems to be listening now.As for the volunteers ( no inverted commas) - well who do they think they are? confused I think some of the comments about them are snide and unnecessary - on C4 news, I've seen brilliant ones being interviewed and as others have said, the Hillsborough campaign would never have happened without volunteers - the authorities were nowhere to be seen, too busy covering up and watching their backs.

Anniebach Wed 05-Jul-17 15:22:05

A conspiracy theory Jen, like May is a murderer, the council wanted the tower block demolished to get the tenants out of the borough ?

Anniebach Wed 05-Jul-17 15:23:25

Not who do they think they are but who are they?
