I can't find the thread on this - probably a zombie one by now, they've been going on so long!

It's all gone very quiet - maybe the DUP have again stopped taking phone calls from their 'confidence & supply' partners.

Anyone heard anything?

Morgana Tue 27-Jun-17 07:30:30

How can anyone justify this?

whitewave Tue 27-Jun-17 06:57:17

I would be always careful who i chose to support if that political party was willing to get into bed with such shockers.

It would say a lot about me i think. So i am sure many Tory supporters are feeling extremely wobbly about what May has done

There's a surprise.

daphnedill Tue 27-Jun-17 05:58:37

The agreement doesn't mention abortion rights

I trust abortion rights for N I women are included in this deal?

daphnedill Mon 26-Jun-17 23:32:16

Ooops! "but" not "nut".

daphnedill Mon 26-Jun-17 23:31:47

paddyann The Tories have a majority in England, so they're bothered about legislation affecting schools or hospitals, etc. I think (nut could be wrong) that Northern Ireland also has a separate welfare budget. The first priority for them is to pass the Queen's Speech.

durhamjen Mon 26-Jun-17 23:26:46

'Gerry Adams has said the deal between the Conservatives and Northern Ireland's DUP "provides a blank cheque for a Tory Brexit which threatens the Good Friday Agreement."

The President of Sinn Fein previously said he told Theresa May she is in breach of the Agreement when he met the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street.

In a statement to reporters outside afterwards, Mr Adams said: "We told her very directly that she was in breach of the Good Friday Agreement, and we itemised those matters in which she was in default in relation to that agreement."

He also confirmed they had also discussed the possibility of a referendum on Irish unity.'

I'LL STOP SHOUTING WHEN YOU ANSWER.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IT IS LEGAL?

paddyann Mon 26-Jun-17 22:38:53

surely the DUP can only vote on issues that affect the whole UK ,remember EVEL ,they cant vote on English matters ,so where will that leave the government..oh and as to extra funds ...just forget Barnet and let us keep ALL our own money raised her instead of 70% going to subsidise Westminster ..for that mnatter why doesn't ENGLAND decide independence for them would be their best option..I'll vote yes for them

Rigby46 Mon 26-Jun-17 22:34:53

How on earth would all their policies have been voted down? How ridiculous. On what planet would the DUP have voted against the Government and forced an election? confused

rosesarered Mon 26-Jun-17 22:33:20

Stop shouting.

durhamjen Mon 26-Jun-17 22:30:56

HOW DO YOU KNOW IT IS LEGAL?

rosesarered Mon 26-Jun-17 22:27:16

Hung Parliaments can do exactly what the Conservatives have done, to make up the seat numbers, ask a minority party to join them.
Now, people, especially Labour voters may not like this ( DUP) but it is legal.
The only question in this case, is does it breach the Good Friday agreement?
I imagine not, or would it have gone ahead.Yes, the Conservatives could have soldiered on without the DUP or anyone else, but nothing would have got done, all their policies would be voted down ( including Brexit deals) and there would have been another GE called within months. How would any of that be good for the UK meanwhile. The Markets hate uncertainty.

whitewave Mon 26-Jun-17 21:08:46

Perhaps Foster will use some of it to pay back time £480m of NI tax payers money she purloined

whitewave Mon 26-Jun-17 21:03:19

I've just emailed my MP.

HeyHo Mon 26-Jun-17 20:25:44

We are on a hiding to the back end of nowhere! This woman is conceited and self centred as well as stupid and stubborn.

She needs to resign and be made to live like we do for a year in penance for her crass ignorance of the harsh reality of life without the safely net of wealth.

DUP - this union with them would have been utterly unthinkable at one time.....

I shudder for our children and our children's children.

Jamison Mon 26-Jun-17 20:19:17

Well I for one am listening, I am enraged by this, no money for the NHS, but enought to buy the DUP,just wrote to my MP, I can see this causing terrible trouble, labour must join together to get May and her cronies out.

Jayh Mon 26-Jun-17 20:17:56

I have emailed my spanking new Tory MP. I expect him to be thrilled by a correspondence from a constituent and am anticipating an early response. I asked where the money is coming from.

whitewave Mon 26-Jun-17 20:14:55

Remember Mays tight lipped remark to a nurse?

"There is no magic money tree"

How many nurses salaries would 2.5bn buy?

whitewave Mon 26-Jun-17 20:11:28

Some messages on twitter.

" Imagine giving £2.5bn to 10 fundamentalists, so that you can be the one to continue telling the UK that it can't afford hospitals"

"Actually as a tax payer I don't want my money used to by the Tories to buy votes"

"One thousand million pounds paid by you and I to homophobic bigots. All tonsave one reptiles job. Disgusting"

" one thousand million pounds to save a minority Tory government, whilst workers go to food banks"

" When the Tories demonise the poor by calling them benefit cheats, remember the £2.5bn they used to buy votes "

And on and on and on.

But they still are not listening.

suzied Mon 26-Jun-17 20:06:09

isn't this "buying votes" ?

whitewave Mon 26-Jun-17 19:58:08

It must be challenged!!

Jayh Mon 26-Jun-17 19:52:31

No more austerity for NI. Hurrah!
Now what about the rest of us? I am going to email my new Tory MP and ask where the extra bribe money is coming from. If he tells me no cuts will be made to any service in any part of the UK to pay for it, I will laugh.
WTF? How can such a huge sum be found during a period of austerity? We are fools if we don't challenge this. It is not normal and it is not stable.

durhamjen Mon 26-Jun-17 19:47:36

Oy, I'm from Yorkshire.

Heseltine just said, 'Once you've paid the danegeld, you never get rid of the Danes.'
