How much will a flight cost after Brexit?

With Ryan Air stating that it may not fly to the EU from Britain after Brexit and easyjet setting up an operation in Austria are we looking towards a time when there will be no cheap flights to EU countries?

Rigby46 Sat 15-Jul-17 21:17:22

It demonstrates beautifully the general level of the average Brexiteers thought processes - as well you know grin

mcem Sat 15-Jul-17 21:13:43

What a mindless post. What does it mean?

sarahellenwhitney Sat 15-Jul-17 21:10:18

OMG how on earth did we manage to take our European and overseas exotic holidays before we became part of the EU. I had no problems then, at least we were safer , so why worry your pants off thinking we may be forced to spend our holidays in dear old blighty.sad

MaizieD Sat 15-Jul-17 21:04:28

And Cassandra predicted absolutely correctly, Maggiemaybe

hmm

Maggiemaybe Sat 15-Jul-17 20:43:45

Woe, woe and thrice woe!

Ana Sat 15-Jul-17 20:08:04

Yes, let's look on the bright side! grin

Perhaps it won't matter if there are no flights from the UK to and from the rest of the EU. The post-brexit UK is likely to be so poor that no-one except the proprietors of the DM, DE and Sun, and of course the likes of Farage, Aaron Banks, JR-M, bankers and crooks will ever be able to afford to fly anywhere.

trisher Sat 15-Jul-17 19:13:30

The problem is although it may seem to us the a UK base is desirable Jalima1108 it could very likely be the case that once the flights across the EU are organised from Austria it may very well be cheaper and more convenient to relocate other services. We have isolated ourselves unfortunately and the results may be much worse than we anticipated. Companies don't like red tape and there is bound to be some if not lots to deal with.

Jalima1108 Sat 15-Jul-17 19:00:29

Trisher.*I do wonder about some people who voted in the referendum but can't get their heads around a few simple facts.*
Ah - but many of us voted and not all voted Brexit so perhaps trisher is wondering about everyone!!

I wonder about those who did not bother to vote, now they make me wonder what on earth they thought they were doing - or not doing as the case may be.

Jalima1108 Sat 15-Jul-17 18:58:01

When a big company takes over a smaller one they always promise "No jobs will be lost"Fast forward 6 months there will be no one left easyJet???
Yes, that can happen (remember Kraft, the American bully-boys?)
However, this is not the same at all as far as I can tell trisher. The main HQ would still be in the UK and yes, people travel all over Europe from one country to another now - but will also want to come to the UK and visit the continent from the UK. Surely our aim is not to isolate ourselves - we want co-operation and amicable arrangements but without actually being part of what may become the USE.

Jalima1108 Sat 15-Jul-17 18:53:08

We all have some Neanderthal DNA in Europe.
They are a much maligned homo species.

Rigby46 Sat 15-Jul-17 18:44:34

Don't be unfair to Neanderthals. And here we go again - bullying= disagreeing with a poster by posting facts. Didums. Grow up.

trisher Sat 15-Jul-17 18:31:45

At least I haven't descended into personal name calling. I could call it bullying or being insulting or lots of other things. If you can state one thing I have posted that is inaccurate I will apologise for it. In the meantime if all you can do is name call perhaps you should look at your own posts first.

PetitFilou99 Sat 15-Jul-17 17:56:03

Nope, no assumption here whatsoever trisher - each and every one of your posts leaves absolutely no doubt in this regard.

rosesarered Sat 15-Jul-17 17:45:51

Agreed Polly there will be much going on behind the scenes to make sure the withdrawal goes as smoothly as possible, but some people, both in RL and on forums like to present it all as chaos.

petra Sat 15-Jul-17 17:45:14

PetitFilou99
We need a few more like you on the brexit threads. The insults flying around now are as nothing compared to when the result of the referendum was announced.
We were almost being compared to Neanderthals grin
I don't mind the insults though. I get a lot of satisfaction reading how angry and bitter people are.

trisher Sat 15-Jul-17 17:43:02

"you know absolutely nothing about me and, yet again, are making assumptions when you actually know very little.

Shame on you, you have a really despicable personality..."

Isn't that making an assumption????

rosesarered Sat 15-Jul-17 17:42:57

trisher you are making your usual high handed comments to all on this thread simply because you believe that only you have the right answers......you don't!
Since flying is big business, it will be sorted out, there will be no closed airports and empty skies, it is one aspect of leaving the EU amongst many others.

pollyperkins Sat 15-Jul-17 17:41:46

Why can't people discuss and even disagree with others without resorting to name calling? We dont (I hope) behave like this IRL or we'd have very few friends. I have several friends who disagree with me about brexit (I'm a remainer in a strongly 'leave'voting area) but I manage to be civil to people.
Someone mentioned upthread that the millennium bug problems never materialised. That's because a lot of people heeded the warnings and worked their socks off to make sure it didn't happen.
Leaving the EU is much more complicated but I'm sure there are people behind the scenes doing their best to make sure our withdrawal goes as smoothly and with as few problems as possible. There's really not much we can do about it.
I still wish the vote had gone the other way though!

PetitFilou99 Sat 15-Jul-17 17:30:15

I am sick to the back teeth of your bullying trisher. You keep inferring that I am a complete imbecile and that I am too thick to understand anything, but you know absolutely nothing about me and, yet again, are making assumptions when you actually know very little.

Shame on you, you have a really despicable personality...!!

trisher Sat 15-Jul-17 17:17:47

easy Jet has already applied for a licence to operate from Austria- so no belief necessary there
I was simply pointing out that it is common for companies to change their minds about jobs.
It's not all our money there are other countries contributing you know.
PetitFilou99 you are right it is a gigantic waste of time debating with someone who thinks airlines can fly anywhere they want to.

Welshwife Sat 15-Jul-17 17:16:59

It is not actually direct funding such as the agricultural subsidies - which it seems are not guaranteed to continue to be paid out of the 350 million - but the Medicines agency located in UK - Euratom which has been mentioned elsewhere - and other institutions which we have benefitted from their research etc. Plus all the jobs in the City which will be lost as the Euro clearing needs to be done by an EU country. The jobs will of course mean lost taxes and also loss of customers for many businesses.
Most of the EU immigrants are working in jobs which are really needed such as the NHS and food harvesting and packaging - these people too pay tax.
Interestingly a majority of EU laws were thought of and actually written by UK as it has been thought that Britain was the best at writing laws. - hence article 50 etc having a British author.
In UK we assist areas which are poorer for whatever reason and the same is with the EU - just on a bigger scale?

petra Sat 15-Jul-17 17:10:52

trisher
You believe that easyJet are moving to Austria, but you don't believe them when they say that no jobs will be lost in the uk.
So like many on these threads, you want to believe the worst.

petra Sat 15-Jul-17 17:06:31

projects all funded through eu money
And where did the eu get the money? us its our money. The eu as such has no money.

PetitFilou99 Sat 15-Jul-17 17:04:45

"OFFS" to you too...!! Really no need to resort to such language frankly.

Why is it that some people can't accept we don't all have the same views as them and still be able to have a civilised conversation? Beggars belief. The aggressiveness on this thread is astounding.

“I do wonder about some people who voted in the referendum but can't get their heads around a few simple facts.” How patronising (bordering on bullying) is that? Jeez…

THE FACT IS that no one knows at the moment what will happen and what deals & agreements will be reached, so commenting on things that might happen or might not happen at all is a pretty gigantic waste of time - only in my humble opinion of course (which I am perfectly entitled to), so no need to get your knickers in a twist just yet.
